It was so difficult to write a review for this spectacular resort because it's hard to keep it short and to the point, so if you care to read on, please do. If not, I would recommend the Komaneka at Tanggyuda without a second thought.
My partner and I stayed at the Komaneka at Tanggayuda in September 2013 for 5 nights. From the moment we got to the resort, the staff told us to make ourselves at home. We took it with a pinch of salt, but they really meant it. We were made to feel like the only guests this hotel ever had and they just made us feel so special. We have also stayed at the Komaneka Bisma and Monkey Forest. The style of this resort is the best we stayed at so far. Bisma also very good, but we stayed in the studio apartment rooms at the Bisma, so a different style of accommodation.
Tanggayuda feels like it's a long way from the centre of Ubub, but there is a drop off and pick up shuttle service every hour from early morning to late night, so it was not an issue at all. You can also enjoy the complimentary afternoon tea at any of the Komanka's if you want a change of scenery.
We were in a Valley Pool Villa to start with and the view is beautiful, to be over looking a tropical jungle and hearing the river. The villa is very spacious, with main living/bedroom area and full windows all around to capture the view. The bathroom/kitchen area behind the bedroom is massive and has a very unique stone bath. I would have preferred to have a door that could close off the bathroom area from the bedroom area, only because the toilet door is opaque glass, so felt a little unprivate. There is a turn down service every night, just to make you feel a little more pampered.
The room service was fast and very well priced. For a resort that could easily be greedy with food pricing, they were the opposite. There was enough food, biscuits, fruit, tea, coffee and water all available at any time with no charge. The afternoon tea was good every day. Of course you could go dine in Ubud and get a meal for around $4-5, but for around $7-9 we were happy to just enjoy our villa.
The rooms are equipped with Apple TV and some 150 movies, but selection of TV channels could be better. Although some people aren't fussed, we like to find a decent news channel to keep up to date with current affairs.
We upgraded to the premier villa on our last day/night as it was my partner's birthday, which was well worth it an even more impressive. This villa's decor was very contemporary and modern as opposed to the first room which was more traditional. The staff even spelt out "Happy Birthday" in rose petals on the bed!
I arranged a last minute candle lit dinner in our villa and it was just gorgeous! Candles around the pool and full service dinner with bottle of wine was only around $80 (which I thought was quite reasonable compared to what you might pay in Australia). There was more food than the two of us could put away.
Breakfast is by ordering from the menu and although it looks like 6 or so choices of breakfast, the staff were quite happy to mix and match from any of the breakfast menus. They also organised a birthday cake surprise after breakfast and all sang happy birthday then on our last day, presented us with a photo in a frame they had taken at the birthday breakfast. You can opt to have breakfast overlooking the valley and pool, or in your room. Speaking of pools, take your pick there are so many just in case your room pool isn't enough! Try the pool near the breakfast area, it felt the warmest of all the pools.
On our last day we also met the husband and wife owners of the Komaneka and they were one of the most humble and friendly couples we have had the privilege of meeting. We spent time chatting with them as if we were old friends! I also wanted to commend them for their beautiful staff and especially thank you to JJ and Mila who went out of their way to make us feel special. There was also the lovely lady at reception (I don't remember her name) who was so helpful when she learnt that we had some problems with our passport.
I could go on and on...
Ask if any villas have warmer pools than others. If taking a taxi, don't assume the taxi driver...
