“absolutely lovely property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

I stayed here in August 2013 and absolutely loved it.The roads leading to the resort can use a bit of improvement but once you reach the resort it is absolutely heavenly. They offer you free shuttle service to Ubud and back, The food is probably one of the best in Ubud and the staff are friendly. All day tours can be organised from the hotel for USD 50 per car with English speaking driver, at least three passengers can share the car so it works out to be good. Wifi is slow though. The facilities like pools and spa at the resort are amazing. I had a single room opening into the garden and very close to the pool.Rooms are spacious and serviced well.

We stayed here in August 2013 primarily because it got good reviews on Tripadvisor. Was lovely - staff were excellent and friendly, food in restaurant is very good (particularly in the evenings - breakfast a bit ho hum). However we were first given a room right at the end of the complex overlooking a construction site. The staff were very accommodating in moving us when our TV was broken and that was a bit better. Rooms clean but bathrooms a bit dingy. Location is good if you want to be out of the way but not so good if you want to wander into Ubud (you can't). You need to rely on the free shuttle bus - which is good but can be slow if caught in traffic or if lots of people are staying. But the grounds and swimming pools are magnificent and the setting in the middle of the rice paddies is superb. I would stay here again but would be better if you had your own transport.

Room Tip: Ask to be NOT down the end of complex near construction site

The property has some new additions and extra properties up and coming so expect some tractors & construction going on.

Having said that, it was a very pleasant stay with friends and family and they had pretty good service and decent food, for the price.

Please bring your own iron & ironing board, should you think you might require it, or your nearest bet is going to Ubud town to get clothes pressed. I personally didn't patronise the spa, but my close friends mentioned it was good and quite value for money.

15-30 mins ride out to Ubud town, but really dependent on traffic conditions and holiday periods. This service is FOC but you may have to wait as there are limited number of vans/ MPVs available too.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, stay in the villas not the normal rooms. Bring your own mosquito repellant, ir...

What a gem of a hotel about 15 minutes outside of Ubud in the tranquility and beauty of the rice paddies! The hospitality at this resort was great - not pretentious or overbearing, just genuinely caring. We were especially impressed with the shuttle service that was so flexible dropping us off and picking us up around the area. Another great part of this resort is the food...mmmmm, so good. The yoga facilities are serene and well equipped as well. My wife and I had a great time starting each day with some self-directed yoga. Finally, the spa is amazing. I received probably the best massage I have ever had here as well at an unbelievably reasonable price. The management could make small changes such as updating the linens, the bathrooms, and pool deck chairs, to really make this place top-notch, but none of these aspects diminished our enjoyment. Thanks for the great stay Bhanuswari!

My wife and I have just returned from a 10 day yoga retreat in Ubud, Bali. We stayed at the Bhanuswari Resort and Spa, a short ride from the centre of Ubud. The hotel and its staff are excellent, with two beautiful pools, excellent healthy food at its restaurant (also available as room service), and the best masseuses in Ubud! The yoga Shala is spacious and has idyllic views over the rice terraces.

My 3 teenagers and I booked 2 side by side rooms (2 of us in each), with a 'half outdoor' 'soaking' bath and views of the rice paddies all promised. All of it turned out to be lies.

In fact we got:
* 2 rooms (Rms 121 and 208) on different floors, supposedly 'in the new wing' according to the manager. Room 121 had no doors on the wardrobe, no coathangers and no rubbish bins. And, would you believe it - no hot water either!! When we complained, the resort engineer came down, had a look and announced that they had 'forgotten to connect it'. They offered to change rooms but my son and I weren’t keen on sharing a small double bed in the only other room available.

Room 208 on the 2nd floor was constantly full of ants and bugs - in bags, beds and walls. Our request for fumigation simply saw ants left squashed on the wall.

Also no mosquito netting provided in these rooms (as a malaria area) despite being in all other rooms that we could see . No excuse given except 'maaf' ('sorry')

* The ‘half outdoor’ bathrooms were in fact in a fully enclosed room with zero ventilation – ie no fresh air anywhere and certainly not half outdoor. This made them simply putrid during the day. And there was no view. When asked, the manager made some bulldust comment that 'guests did not like the leaves and bugs so they enclosed them'. Clearly just a lie as there was no way this internal bathroom ever had a view. Oh, and despite the Manager’s claim, the (more expensive) villas all had open bathrooms still so who's [--] who here ?

Also there were no cupboards or any type of table or bench to put our toiletries bags on - which all ended up having to be dumped on the floor which was always wet due to the leaking toilet.

* There was no view of the rice paddies - only a view of a field of tall weeds across the very wet and boggy, torn up road (with no night time lighting), along with building materials stored for the the building site adjacent (equipment working from 8.30-4.30 each day). The only view was from the exterior balcony - which was shared with the room next door - and which had a view of the small river - which also doubled as the sewer for the entire resort. Lovely to sit and watch and hear everyone's basins and baths pour into the river. So much fore their much vaunted eco-friendly claim.

Final note: the room finishes of this supposedly 'new wing' were awful. Mouldy bathroom, sloppy finishing, lights half hanging out of the bathroom ceiling, toilet seat would not stay up, ill-fitting main doors letting the bugs in, chair did not fit under the desk when sitting on it making it unusable for my daughter (who was studying for exams) etc etc . Aircon had 2 speeds and regardless of the temperature setting the room was icy - so we had to turn it off and on all night so we were not too hot or too cold. Room also smelt like rotten eggs at the end of each day - they had some sort of odour remover hanging from the aircon to compensate.

It might have been okay of they had been honest about it before the fact, or charged less than the USD$80pn per room we were paying, but even when I showed them my booking forms and the photos of the views from the supposed deluxe room we had booked , they had the temerity to blame Wotif (an Australian acccom booking site) for using the 'wrong photos'. In reality every photo used of the ‘deluxe room’ was in fact of their Villas so beware.

Other people staying at the same to found it okay so I think that using wotif (same as agoda, lastminute, orbitz etc) to book it meant we got the cheapest crappiest poorest rooms . BEWARE THE NEW WING

We enjoyed 3 nights at bhanuswari. We got a free up grade to a deluxe room, which was on the lower ground with a view across the rice fields. ($60 aus per night, excellent value with air con and breakfast)

The service was outstanding and happy to pick us up from all locations around ubud, this was included in the room fee. The food was good and we ate every night here.

Our only comment is that the bathroom was not that clean and the water in the shower was not draining.

We would recommend this resort and loved the location.
