“Jaw-dropping beauty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

You are warmly invited to enter the ornately carved stone lobby of the hotel, with its tranquil pools and sunlit patches of lush greenery and are invited through to the dining room. There the curved stone balcony frames a breathtaking view of a deep river gorge. We sat here for many first-class meals, and just breathed in the beauty and calm. You can catch glimpses of the river tumbling past below, or the 180 m long lagoon pool, but the holy pool and spa and most of the villas are camouflaged by the manicured gardens. Our pool villa was huge and beautiful, with a stunning bathroom and our own balcony and infinity-edge pool. We felt very lucky to have had the opportunity to stay in such a unique resort.

Room Tip: We chose a pool villa with breakfast included and loved it, but the garden villas come with organic...

Two friends and I spent 4 nights at the Royal Pita Maha, Ubud. From the moment you walk through the front doors, you are welcomed and totally looked after. The views are breathtaking, the environment relaxing, the food wonderful. The villa was extremely private and the beds very comfortable. You want for nothing and if you do ask for anything it comes very quickly, with a welcoming smile. Thank you, our stay was fantastic.

My wife and I spent 14 nights at the Royal Pita Maha Ubud. We were advised that this would probably be too long. We have to disagree! How can absolute relaxation, stunning scenery, very private villa and pool; fantastic king +++ bed with mosquito net (if my wife were on holiday in the Antarctic and a mosquito arrived accidentally, the mosquito would bite her) be a disadvantage.

Down sides - room very old entertainment equipment - TV and Video desperately needs upgrading to modern flat screen and blue ray recorder!!!!!. Selection of DVDs poor. Can buy in Ubud for $3 but need to check they are in English before buying. We purchased several and they were fine. Coffee plunger too small!!! Apart from these minor gripes, everything about this resort is understated when you visit their website.

The Spa treatment is excellent and lasts for up to 3 hrs. The Spa surroundings include beautiful plantings enhanced by hard landscaping and private pools, a sauna and Jacuzzi (no couples allowed in either the sauna or jacuzzi - spoil sports!!). Our massage effect lasted throughout the next day.
The resort staff arranged (at our request) fantastic local trips, drivers, and guides. All proved to be excellent and none were from the resort itself. We had a wonderful 5hr trek (included tea and coffee tasting) and a 1 day drive that exposed us to the non tourist areas; we also had a go at the white water rafting followed by the elephant park and dinner under the stars. All highly recommended. We travelled most days into Ubud using the free shuttle bus., which allowed us to walk around the surrounding town areas

The resort allows you to be busy everyday or do nothing.

My wife embarked on a 3 hr cooking class with the resort chef and we then ate her prepared and cooked food for our lunch. Brilliant experience for her to work with such a high class chef.
I tried my hand at stone carving with the resort stone mason. Although challenging it was rewarding and I managed to create a reasonable small piece of sculpting.

Our room was kept immaculate and the villa service is 24 hrs a day if required. The resort has a choice of food, with the restaurants kept to a high standard with fantastic views.

The highlight for us was arranged secretly by me (the husband). This was our romantic dinner for two by the Ayung river. This was truly a magical experience for us both as we celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary. The restaurant manager arranged everything with me. We had our personal menu served within our personal gazebo surrounded by candle light and my wifes' hand made bouquet. We had beautiful food and wine all managed by wonderful staff. Many thanks for the memories that will last our lifetime. Ask the staff and trainees and they will oblige with a smile. A credit to the resort. If you are looking for a truly relaxing private resort, with views to die for the Royal Pita Maha is a must

Thank you to all who were involved during our 14 day stay. We will return next year. Angela and Steve

Room Tip: Villa 137/8/9 all have great views and are quiet and private

It normally takes me a few days to unwind but within a few hours I was breathing deeply and chilling out. I don't think there is anything like having breakfast watching the white water of the Ayu river pass by. The organic restaurant is a must and definitely worth the trek.
The villa was perfect and we slept incredibly well. I loved opening our villa's large sliding doors and letting the outdoors in. Watching the forest come alive with birds and squirrels was a delight. Yes there are heaps of insects because you are in the forest and yes there are a great many steps and could be difficult for people with dodgy knees but we didn't find it a problem.
So great to be away from the now extremely busy Ubud town centre.

Me and my husband spent 2 nights in Royal Pita Maha during our honeymoon trip. We were already adore this place from the very first time we saw it in the internet. And once we got there we were dazzled by its amazing view. Very stunning! The view from our villa is so magical!

I don't know how to describe it in words, because it was indescribable!
I think this place is a little piece of heaven!
I stopped breathing when I opened the villa's curtain. Very very stunning!
As we can see the jungle and the river in front of our eyes.

I fall in love with the private pool! It's so huge and beautiful! The big and lovely bath-up is another part that I love besides its warm bedroom. I really love the architecture of the villa. Their service was also excellent. They really treated us like we are the king and queen. They were so nice and humble.

We enjoyed every second we spent there. I hope we could get back there.

Ah, I really love Royal Pita Maha.

We booked this place for 3 nights in the pool villa from ABL travel agents as they gave us the best rates (even better than Agoda and Luxury Link). We were in villa 143 which was extemely private. We couldn't see anyone ever which was great!

Our Favorites:
- Our villa was huge and nicely done. The swimming pool was quite big. We hardly used the living area. The heart-shape bath-tub was to die for!
- Organic Restaurant - The food was delicious and fresh! Loved the breads and jams there!
- The property itself was very calm and relaxing.

Not so good parts:
- EXTREMELY PUSHY STAFF: The staff seemed extremely pushy trying to up-sell everything. When we checked-in, the lady told us that there is dinner with dance today in the hotel. We politely declined as we already had dinner reservations at some other restaurant in Ubud town. She asked us whether she can cancel our dinner by calling the restaurant! We were quite surprised as we never mentioned anything like that. In other instances, 2 or 3 different staff kept asking us to do the river rafting as they could get us a good rate. We would politely decline each time but it got quite annoying after a while. In our 3 nights stay, we were asked at least 8 times whether they can book us some sort of a tour. It got worst when a person from the front desk called us in our room at 11 p.m. a night before we were checking out if he could arrange us a rafting tour. We told them that we are checking-out tomorrow but he was adamant and asked us to do it at 8 in the morning. Note that - not even once we inquired about any activity from anyone at the resort. We thought it was absolutely ridiculous!

- Food Variety - In room breakfast and afternoon tea both had extremely limited selection and was below average. We didn't enjoy our eggs benedict and nasi goreng and ended up leaving more than half of it.

- Swimming Pool is NOT heated and it gets extremely cold. We couldn't stay in the water for more than 5 minutes. So, that super big swimming pool is just a "showy" pool.

- Last but NOT-AT-ALL least - Snakes!! We saw two snakes and a HUGE Lizard in the garden area by the pool. The snake kept in the bushes but the lizard was walking just outside our window. We had kept the windows open while having breakfast and ran to close it when we spot the lizard and kept all the windows and doors closed during our entire stay. I don't know what they can do about it as this resort is super green and you feel like you are in the middle of nature. If you are okay with this, try it out. We were not and were happy to leave.

Room Tip: If you really want to stay here, our villa 143 was extremely private and gorgeous!!

The RPM really is a piece of Heaven on Earth and is a MUST stay in the Ubud area and a must visit on your bucket list!. From the very friendly reception staff and views to the valley, to the luxury appointed private villas with infinity edge pool and plus king size bed, to the incredible views as seen by many a photo. The relaxing breakfast views at the 3 tiered restaurant, together with a great breakfast selection served to your table from very friendly local staff. A lift ride and wander later down to the edge of the Agung River you will pass beautifully manicured and arranged gardens, holy spring pools, a riverside temple, and a stunningly located Organic restaurant on a bend in the river, great for bfast or lunch. The resort is built on the side of cliffface, so expect to walk a little, but what a beautiful stroll it is, with tropical plants, flowers and carvings at every corner. Make sure you visit the Kirana Spa, the entrance is absolutely stunning, including the massage villa's and quality of Spa Treatments provided. Yes the resort is 10 minutes from the centre of Ubud, but really you just want to stay and lap up all the beauty, relax and breathe it all in from the edge of your pool or sunbed. Suprisingly the villa's and pools are very private due to the hillside layout and positioning, roof structures and landscaping. I hope my review helps you in deciding to stay here, I'm a Hotel Industry Professional with 5* working experience throughout Asia. Cheers and Enjoy!! ps I will add photos later
