A very difficult place to book only for a few nights...But really worth the wait! Finally got deluxe room, very cute bedroom, nice bathroom, friendly and helpful staff. Me, my husband and our (then) 4mos baby really enjoy the time we spent there, chatting and playing and laughing over looking beautiful rice fields. This is just the place!

This is undoubtedly one of the best places to stay in Ubud, if not the whole of Bali. From the moment we arrived, we felt calm and relaxed. The hotel is a small set-up with 21 rooms and with a staff of 25. Service was personal and the rooms were in well-maintained. The hotel is located on the edge of a padi field. We were lucky to get a room on the 2nd floor as the balcony opened up to a beautiful view of lush greenery (This of course depends on the padi growing season.). Because of this, we had our breakfast up in our balcony every morning. The hotel has several passenger vans that provide free 2-way transport to nearby places of interest such as the Monkey Forest or for shopping in central Ubud. There is also a small restaurant in the hotel and they make a fantastic plate of nasi goreng (fried rice - Indonesian style) Can't recommend this place highly enough!

This was our last place of stay in our 11 days trip of bali where we spent 5 nights in TS. We had just came in from a very long drive from Pumetaran and immediately we fell at ease during check in.

The staffs there were, as all the reveiwers had mentioned, wonderful. they even showed me their villas which was very very nice, but fully booked.

We stayed in their duplex, their only unit in the hotel area. They brought us to the unit, showed us around and it took about 1 minute for both my wife and me to be amazed by the unit. The jacuzzi was fun and the rice paddy field was a breath of fresh air. The sun rises about 530 hrs and I spend a lot of time just sitting at the top balcony and let the time passes by. Laundry was dirt cheap and we should have brought all out laundries here instead of doing in at the other 2 hotels which we stayed. The F& B prices were very reasonable as well.

We went to their sister spa ( Pertenin) twice and it was wonderful. They do arrange pick up. We had all but one of our breakfast in the room and thier service was wonderful. They help to send us to Ubud where we had the famous Babi Guling and picked us up at the exact time I had requested them too.

On a personal note, we did not like the lizards there which were huge! but this will not stop me from going back again. Book early, I did mine 9 months in advance.

My partner and our two young daughters stayed at this delightful hotel recently and in order for other travellers to avoid the many, many hours searching the trip advisor web site for accommodation and agonising over a decision like I did just go ahead and book Tegal Sari. Despite having travelled extensively this was the first time I had booked an entire holiday over the net. The only way to book is through the Tegal Sari site itself.
Tegal Sari is superb. We were not looking for opulence - just comfortable, clean surroundings and our expectations were exceeded.
Tegal Sari is a well hidden gem at the end of a driveway. Our room (super deluxe) with extra bed including breakfast was approx. A$80 per night. The room was immaculate, air conditioned and extremely private. The bathroom was excellent. It was a delight to wake in the morning and look over the rice fields just beyond our terrace where breakfast is served. The staff here are exceptional, always smiling and friendly and there is no doubt that they are all very proud to be working at such a wonderful establishment. The hotel is located a 2 minute walk through the back of the property to the Monkey Forest. Continuing to walk from the forest you could reach the centre of Ubud in an easy 10 to 15 minute stroll. Our trip to Bali covered all points of the island however our stay at Tegal Sari was without doubt the best decision we made throughout the entire trip. We attended several of the stunning dance performances in Ubud which Tegal Sari recommended and organised for us on request and a driver will take you and pick you up after the performance and return you to the hotel at no charge. The hotel has a small restaurant, not a huge selection but we found the quality was very good no matter what we ordered. If you are looking for a luxury resort to share with 400 other people with 4 swimming pools then this is not for you. Accommodation ranges from basic rooms to private villas. If you are thinking of staying here you must book very early. I booked in March and couldn't get a villa even booking 8 months ahead. We took the option of a private guide whilst travelling as we could customise our trip to see things that are not included on the standard tours. I thoroughly recommend Nick at www.bali-tours-guide.com - he is licensed and speaks fluent English, professional, extremely reliable and very reasonably priced. We found that Ubud was the perfect central location to experience all of Bali.
Many thanks to all the staff for making our stay with you so memorable.

Dec 15, 2009 | Trip type: Family

Our family of 4 (2 adults and 11 and 13 year old) stayed at Tegal Sari for 7 nights (5th-12th December) for our first holiday in Ubud. We booked 6 months in advance (on the advice of Trip Advisor) and even then found it difficult to get 7 consecutive nights in 2 rooms due to heavy advance bookings. We were impressed from the moment we arrived at the hotel. Our host was delightful and immaculate in his introduction to the resort and our room (we even had an introduction as to how to use the electric kettle!). The rooms were modest (2 x superior rooms) but beautifully clean with very comfortable beds and lovely views over the rice paddies. The very hot weather was tempered by airconditioning in our rooms and frequent use of the lovely pool. The food was good (breakfast included in the price) and reasonable priced (about $5 for a good sized main meal) and the service at the hotel outstanding. I had a massage ($10 for 1 hour) just about every day and would highly recommend the team of women who work in the Pertenin beauty spa (owned by the same person as the Tegal Sari and they will either come to the hotel and deliver you free of charge to the spa). I would like to particularly comment on the drivers whom we used on several occassions for day trips to Denpasar and Sanur Beach. Although perhaps a a touch more expensive than hiring a taxi or driver from the streets ($20-$25 one way) it was so nice to be able to book in advance knowing we would get a decent airconditioned car with a good driver. These trips were a highlight partly because of how much we learned from the drivers in the hour long trips to and from the hotel (about family, local culture, rice farming, work conditions). I would also particularly recommend the day long Mountain Bike tour with the Ecotour company (recommended by the staff at Tegal Sari). Although slightly hair-raising riding down the volcano (if you are someone who has not been on a bike for 25 years) it was exhilirating and punctuated by a fascinating trip to a local family compound, lunch and a trip to a coffee plantation (where we also had a cup of Luwak coffee!). I would strongly recommend the accommodation but be warned that you need to book well in advance!!!
