We stayed in Tegal Sari for 5 nights - first 3 in a villa with a private pool, which was really great. The only fault that the electricity system cannot cope with the pool-AC-microwave load and goes off. Internet is desperately slow, even in villas. The so-called deluxe rooms where we spent 2 nights are far from luxurious but still OK, apart from the ants everywhere. The public pool is nice but only when there are no kids around. The restaurant of the hotel offers nice food at reasonable prices, still, my husband got Bali belly after the second meal (pork with chili). We hired a car from the hotel for a day out - the driver used every opportunity to drag us into various shopping traps. His English wasn't very good, many times we didn't understand what he said. It seems the entire personnel is trained to be an advertisement board - whatever you ask the answer is how much it costs at Tegal Sari. There are 35 people working for the 30 rooms, they all do everything, from cleaning to driving guests around - therefore our driver was quite exhausted by the afternoon (after a morning of cleaning, I guess) and his driving became very uncertain. All in all: if you are used to budget accommodation, go for it, otherwise there are better choices around or go for the villa. Book well in advance, however they charge the full amount to your card immediately upon booking, even if it is a year in advance. When I asked the reason they just laughed. It seems they become abit spoilt by their Tripadvisor success....
