“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2012 via mobile

After just spending 4 nights here at the end of our first Bali holiday, we have withdrawal symptoms!! This is the most tranquil setting and resort we have ever visited ( in fact I liked it better than staying in a suite at raffles in singapore). The location, the staff, the grounds and the 1 room suite we stayed in could not be faulted. Although a fair distance to ubud, the hotel shuttle cars were excellent and drivers obliging. The food was amazing too and the restaurant overlooking the rice paddies has to be experienced. Perfect for a romantic getaway without children. Thank you to yuni especially for making our stay so wonderful. HOK & AJ

Have stayed here previously for our honeymoon and went back to pay a visit and am glad to say it was even more amazing than i remembered, the staff are simply wonderful and remembered us from our stay 5 years ago, even remebered our favourite drink, WOW now that impressed me. The grounds are simply breathtaking, the most beautiful hotel I have ever set foot in by a long way, from the lily ponds to the sweeping views over the rice terraces being worked by locals, the restuarant on site is my favourite of any I have been, you sit in an open sided rice barn which floats above the rice terraces, the food is exceptional and the service is fabulous, the purple basil house special cocktail is a must. All vegetables are grown in theor own garden and the chef takes pride in showing guests around. We look forward to booking another stay here just as soon as we can. Just paradise on earth and I cannot fault in any way, simply wonderful and it has to be seen to quite understand what is so special about this unique property

We stayed a week and could have stayed a month++++. Our Spa Villa was beautiful, everymorinng my wife Linda would have a message (included in the special deal) and I would enjoy a coffee and morning paper on the porch overlooking the pond. Breakfast served in our room by our wonderful butler Japa who helped us in so many ways. The pool by day and restauant overlooking the rice paddy at night. We are returning soon perhaps for a month?

Room Tip: Pool villas looked really nice

The numerous reviews provide all the details and praise this resort deserves. We stayed for 6 days in a pool vila and I cannot think of a negative comment I could make about the Chedi and I really tried hard.
The distiguishing feature of Chedi IMO is the attentive butlers, they are like nothing else I have experienced at any other hotel. Our's was brilliant as is common with the comment from other vilas.
Certainly a holiday to stay in ones memories.

Room Tip: You cant go wrong with pool Vila 9. Its at the end of the vilas next to rice paddies and it comes wi...

Its hard to decide which superlatives to use when describing this place and the experience of staying here! We arrived in Bali from Singapore where we thought the service we recevied at the Mandarin Oriental could not be topped. We then met our butler Supri and realised we were wrong. This 'hotel' (really its more of a collection of private villas) is set in lush, green surroundings with manicured gardens and beautiful pavillions, statues and lakes. Our pool villa (bedroom, double sinks, outside bath, private pool, pagoda and small kitchen) was stunning and something that you would counjure up if someone asked you to describe your dream accommodation. Supri was a star - topping up our complementary mini bar, bringing snacks to try, doing our laundry, bringing us cockatils by our pool - and being from the local village was able to take us on a very informed tour of the hotel's rice fields and his nearby village. I stepped on a bee one day and he was round to our villa in 5 minutes, having already called hte hotel doctor for advice and with a bowl of ice to help allieviate the pain (the general manager then checked on me later in the day which was appreciated). This is a special place and one my husband and I will always remember.

We stayed at the Chedi Club for our honeymoon in April, and we were absolutely amazed. It is one of the most beautiful, serene and spectacular places we have ever been. It is absolutely stunning - surrounded by rice paddies.
Our butler, Rasti, was brilliant, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay.
The food was absolutely delicious (you must have the gado gado) and we never wanted to leave.
Our private pool opened directly onto the rice paddies, and we regularly felt like the only people in the world.
The location is great, and not at all far from the great shopping and eating in Ubud.
Can't recommend it highly enough, and we can't wait to go back!

My wife and I spent six nights here as part of our honeymoon. Having stayed at another Chedi a couple of years ago, we had high expectations, and the Chedi Club Tanah Gajah did not disappoint.

This is a beautiful hotel in a stunning setting, surrounded by rice fields. The hotel's estate extends almost as far as the eye can see. Ubud is a bustling town which can be quite noisy at times, but once you're inside the hotel you're completely isolated - a glorious feeling.

There are only 19 rooms in this hotel, all self-contained and fabulously comfortable. The outdoor bathrooms take some getting used to but by the end of our stay we were finding outside bathing quite delightful. The complimentary mini-bar and liquors, the Bose iPod dock and the complimentary laundry service were all real treats.

Where this hotel excels is in the sense of luxury and personal service from staff, without ever being invasive or making us feel uncomfortable. We found it a really nice touch that every employee knew our names almost as soon as we arrived. Every room has a dedicated butler and we were fortunate enough to be looked after by Sutama. He was wonderfully discreet, helpful and attentive and he made our stay particularly special. He helped us with onward travel arrangements (even booking flights for us) and personally turned down our bed every night - making ever more creative elephant figurines out of towels every night which never failed to put a smile on our faces.

Guests can take advantage of complimentary afternoon tea and cocktail hour every day. Every individual canape bears the hallmarks of the excellent chef's personal touch and we loved exploring new treats every day. The Tanah Gajah Purple cocktail (made with basil) was a revelation! At meal times the hotel's own gamelan players fill the air with the soothing sounds of gamelan and gongs which we found quite amazing. On certain nights, the sounds of a larger gamelan drifted across the estate from the temple in the nearby village. Dinner was very expensive (especially by Ubud standards) but seriously good.

The hotel provides a complimentary car service during the day for destinations in Ubud. From the evening onwards, drivers are still available but there is a charge. At around rp.120,000 (including tax and service) this is around twice expensive as an Ubud minicab making it uncompetitive - it was effort alone which led us to use it most nights for outbound travel.

The general manager, Simon, is highly visible around the hotel and makes the point of catching up with guests every day - again, highly discreet but this personal interest from the GM gives a huge sense of reassurance. The hotel hosted a wedding while we were staying (spread across two days)... it is fair to say the event had a monopoly on the staff's attention and meant that the restaurant was closed one afternoon and evening, but the matter was well communicated by the hotel and the car service on the evening in question was complimentary up to 11pm, which was a generous gesture by the hotel.

In summary, this is an outstanding hotel which has captured perfectly the balance between service and discretion. It deserves to be considered one of Bali's top destinations and is a credit to the Chedi brand.
