“Jungle Yoga Retreat Bliss”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2009

We spent 3 nights on our honeymoon at this idyllic hotel, just outside of Central Ubud in Sanggigyan/Kedewatan. The hotel nestles on the jungle hillside and the individual chalets and suites have beautiful rooms with wood carvings - most also have an inside/outside shower and a fantastic balcony overlooking the valley.

The staff were superb and most days I started the morning with a swim, followed by an amazing breakfast down in the restaurant. The restaurant is surrounded by trees, a huge carp pond and is beautifully designed (as are all the architecural aspects of the Uma) The open air bar was also very convivial in the evenings (with a few cute lizards running up the walls dealing with the mosquitoes!)

Because we were on honeymoon the hotel had filled the bath with flower petals and gave us a complimnetary bottle of Bali rose wine whihc was a nice welcome! There was also complimntary yoga class at 4pm everyday in the most fantastic studio overlooking the jungle valley.

We ate in the restaurant on the last night and the food (and service) were both fantastic. Lombok Lobster and Thai Beef Salads being the highlight!

There is a regular shuttle drop/return into central Ubuid from the hotel during the day, and the drivers will (for a fee) drop you anywhere else within the local environs &/or after dark into Central Ubud.

The main thing that we liked about this hotel (apart from the fantastically friendly staff) was the stillness and chilled atmosphere. it is very quiet and you can really realy unwind and relax. Every morning there is a compllimentary walking tour at 8am and of course the aforementioned yoga. If you do crave a bit more 'action' and 'buzz' then there is a fab waoreng (traditional Balinese restaurant) just over the road called 'Naught Nauri's' that does great spare ribs & sates cooked on a bbq outside ... or just head into Central Ubud. The Spa treatments looked a little expensive but all the bathroom products were superb AND the facilities looked excellent (the yoga studio was attached to the spa!)

Overall I'd highly recommend this hotel for a casual visit or honeymoon - perfect place to chill out and forget the cares of the world!

We stayed for four nights in the Uma Suite. We were extremely happy with our choice. It was our second trip to Ubud and this was a very good location. The hotel is set back from a busy road, but is very tranquil and because the resort is set down the hill it is quiet. Walking into the reception from the road one enters a calming retreat. The rooms are amongst the best we've ever had anywhere in the world. They are beautifully decorated in whites and greys, with rattan furniture and four poster beds with nets. Our suite was very large with a dining and sitting area as well as covered terrace which was large enough to hide away and read when it rained. Breakfasts were wonderful with delicious mixed juices, bircher muesli and nicely cooked main courses. It is all a la carte, which is a treat. We ate in the restaurant one evening and thought it was very good, but the rest of the time we ate out. Indus is an easy walk and Naughty Nuris is across the road. We didn't eat there, but the margaritas were excellent - we wouldn't have been able to walk out if we had drunk more than one! It is walking distance from the centre of Ubud but the pavements are terrible so although we walked up one evening we took a taxi back.

I liked the spa very much, and also the afternoon yoga class. They also do a guided morning walk which is a lovely way to start the day. They took us around the padi fields near the hotel and it was really pretty. The guide was also very informative and told us a lot about local culture. The pool is nice for swimming lengths and on most days it was relatively quiet even though the hotel seemed always to be full.

We would definitely go back.

It's a very quiet hotel, with beautiful rooms, great food and a really great pool...the staffs were friendly and helpful,
Rooms tastefully decorated..each has a patio,
I stayed at the Terrace Room and later upgraded to the Garden Room, but both rooms were just as equally charming...Garden Room is bigger and has a really nice (more like posh) bathroom (see pictures)..
You'll be surrounded by lush greenies and it's really peaceful, away from the hustle and bustle (unlike Kuta and Legian)..
Don't expect loud/nightlife coz it gets really quiet at night..
Surrounding areas? quite secluded, a lota art shops around though.. you need a transport to get to places...
breakfast is awesome, with the view of large waterfall/pond..
the fitness/ spa is heavenly..
very romantic ambience..
perfect for business/honeymoon/family trip

Had a wonderfull three nights here and would recommend this to travellers to Ubud. We stayed with our two year old son, and despite being more of a romantic boutique type hotel, it worked out fine for us. The bungalow we had was spacious with a terrace overlooking the river valley. It was completely quiet. Even though the hotel is on a main street, and outside the center of Ubud, the noise from the traffic out front was inaudible.

The meals at the restaurant were great. The pool was very relaxing and the staff extremely helpful.

Stayed in a Uma Pool Suite for 3 nights. The room decor is simple but stylish, very spacious with a small plunge pool. The pool water was too cold for me, but my husband thought it was ok. Big bathroom with sunken bath, separate semi-outdoor shower. Nice terrace overlooking the jungle and valley. Great for breakfast and sunset drinks/lounging or reading. No Wi-Fi in the room, but you can connect via a cable which is in the desk drawer. Wi-Fi is available in the lobby, bar and pool area. No iPod speakers, but there's a BOSE radio/CD player (if you have the Apple AV cable, you can connect your iPod to it). You can borrow CDs and DVDs from reception for free.

The staff was attentive, helpful and friendly. The service was first-class; anticipating our needs, remembering our previous requests and very fast and efficient. Everyone spoke very good English so there's no communications barrier.

The spa was small, but the treatments were great! We had a massage everyday. The masseuses obviously had good training and knew what they were doing. While we were there, there was a buy 1 treatment, get the 2nd for 50% less if you book between 11am and 4pm. It's a pretty good deal. The treatment prices were not cheap, but we thought it was well worth it.

The hotel restaurant served excellent food. They had a regular menu and a healthy menu. Both were very good. The cottage cheese hotcakes at breakfast, lobster at dinner and mojita at the bar were my favorites. Room service was quick, the food was hot and just as delicious.

Some other restaurants to consider...Just down the street from the hotel entrance is Naughty Nuris, a lively roadside shack serving delicious BBQ (try the spare ribs!) and strong, authentic martinis. Further down the street is Mozaic, a famous fine dining restaurant. Although our meal was extremely disappointing and I would not recommend it. A must-try local dive is Ibu Oka serving only one dish - Babi Guling (roast pig). Order the "special" which comes with rice and spiced side items. This was featured on Anthony Bourdain's TV show and lived up to its hype. Great for a quick lunch. It's right across from Ubud Palace where the hotel shuttle drops you off.

The Uma Ubud hotel is a nice property in Ubud,

We stayed in the terrace rooms which were quite nice. Though we did not really use the terrace.
The bathroom with the open air showers are also very nice.

The best part of the hotel was the nice pool and the spa.

The therapists were excellent and the spa are is also very nice.

The breakfast and the restaurent were ok. nothing spectacular.

the hotel is decently well located and not very far from the town.
also, walking distance from nice places to eat like indus, mosaic, etc.

we arrange the rafting tour through the hotel with sobek which was good fun.

taxis can also be arranged though you also have the option of going out of the hotel and bargaining with the numerous cabs that pass by. this is a cheaper option as well.

the bar was nice too though a little expensive.

overall this is a good hotel and i would recommend it.

This was a lovely little hotel with absolutely beautiful landscaping and a top notch staff. We stayed two nights and we were impressed w/ the food, the service, and the pristine property. Huge bathrooms w/ outdoor style showers, a lovely terrace and very comfortable and pretty furniture all enhanced our stay.

When there was an issue encountered during a spa visit, the manager promptly addressed and made sure we left happy. The restaurant was excellent - really tasty food for breakfast, by the (gorgeous) pool and dinner. I would absolutely recommend going back but do be sure to bring your torch w/ you to dinner as the pathways are dimly lit.

Also be sure to do the white water rafting tour through Sobek tours which is very convenient and a lot of fun. We also enjoyed the walk through the rice paddies - allowed us to get quite close to an integral part of the Balinese culture.
