“Second visit just as wonderful as the first”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

We stayed at the Uma last September and loved it. We jumped at the opportunity to stay again for 8 days to just rest and relax returning home yesterday. We had very high expectations following our first trip, I'm happy to report that they were met and probably exceeded. The grounds are breathtaking, immaculately maintained,we especially loved the pool area. Every day after a fantastic breakfast we would sit poolside. The delightful staff would bring iced water to you which they topped up regularly. It seemed all staff knew our names which is a lovely touch. The weather was cooler than usual which meant we walked more, including the Campuhan ridge walk a couple of times and walking into Ubud. My husband and I were sad to leave after what was a sesnational week .Thanks to Marc and his wonderful team

Dear Mandy132

I'm very happy having just read your kind and generous review. It was such a surprise to welcome you both back to Uma. I'll be honest and say that your reservation did creep through without me noticing, but on arrival, it was wonderful to see your friendly faces again and welcome you back to Uma.

Glad to know that you enjoyed this stay, perhaps even more than your last. Thank you for enjoying your time at Uma. It of course goes without saying that we truly look forward to welcoming you back.

I'm sorry that I was away on your departure. So I'll contact you separately to ensure you have my contact details for your next visit.

Thanks again, and enjoy that last 'Saturday' in September!

My husband and I spent 3 very relaxing days at Como by Ubud. The hotel is beautifully presented and you feel at one with nature. The daily complimentary daily walks and yoga classes were a lovely additional service. The staff were very accommodating and the spa was heavenly. We have some back to Singapore feeling refreshed and rejuvenated

Taking a shower I had the disagreable experience: the large shower head and pipe leading to the wall fall within an inch of my foot or head (I had just moved to get some soap). Accidents do happen and I was VERY lucky. My husband and I felt that the director of the Hotel who had been very present up until this incident should have offered an apology, maybe some flowers for the room or even a fruit juice at the bar. After this incident we never again saw the director or any other person in charge that offered any apologies. This incident happened on the 2nd day of our 4-day stay.

Dear CatherineJade

Thank you for posting a review on TripAdvisor. I am so terribly sorry to read about this incident and I agree this is most unfortunate and should have been dealt with differently.

With every due respect, I am most concerned by your report as I am finding it difficult to locate any information related to your stay, any guest comments related to a shower, or even a maintenance report to fix a broken shower-head between the months of May to July this year. I therefore hesitate to ask whether your unfortunate experience did indeed occur at our resort.

For an incident such as this, there is no doubt that you you would have mentioned this to a member of our very caring staff who would have most certainly passed the information on to myself, or our Guest Services Manager in my absence. Of course, I seek your forgiveness and apology if you did stay with us at Uma by COMO, in Ubud and would very much encourage you to contact me directly so that I can attempt to re-write this experience for you. I am regrettably unable to share my email address with you on this forum, however you may reply to any correspondence you received from us or find our email address on any official hotel document (your final room account perhaps).

As you may see from previous comments, it is truly uncharacteristic of our hotel service to shy away from an incident such as this. We value our guest-experience at Uma very highly. So I anticipate receiving your correspondence soon.

With warmest regards

This hotel is amazing and the location is superb! The accommodation is elegant and spotlessly clean. We had a terrace room which overlooked the valley, it felt so private and was beautiful. The pool is stunning and was very quiet. The bar, overlooking the pool, was well stocked and fun. You could even have a lesson in making your own mojito! My husband would also recommend the expresso martinis. We used the restaurant and in house dining, there is a super choice and the food is fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. We were also offered dishes which were not on the menu. The staff are wonderful, very caring and considerate. If you are looking for a little bit of paradise - look no further - you have found it. Visit Uma!

I'm delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us and all that we had to offer you. Particular thanks for highlighting our Uma Pool Bar. It's indeed a fun spot and our staff really enjoy serving up Ubud's best quality drinks at the best prices. And yes - they're even happy to share the 'how-to' with guests wanting to learn.

Our current favourite hotel in Bali (and we've been to many)! Uma provides the perfect blend of relaxation, activity and comfort. We love the great (& healthy) food along with yoga, personally organised cycle tours, the fabulous spa and incredibly helpful staff. The rooms provide beautiful understated elegance and we especially enjoy the breakfast (tip: home made muesli with yoghurt). We can't wait to return - with the promise of even more yoga classes to appear on the schedule of free activities. :-)

After 6 serene days with the yoga group we hosted in East Bali, we offered this year for the first time, an extension to the programme in Ubud, as a way of giving the students that intermediary zone before rushing back into their busy lives. Having stayed a number of times at Uma Ubud in years past, this was the ideal choice. For a hotel, the feeling is intimate: somewhere to hide if you are wanting to relax in a lovely room with garden access and terrace (all cool whites and fresh breezes), or lounge by the lovely pool, yet close enough to Ubud's temptations or any number of rural excursions for the active. Genuinely caring, attentive staff make you feel like a special guest in all departments. The yoga shala is superbly located with dense jungle views over the river. The food was fabulous: an intelligent Asian/Balinese fusion, light, clean and always pleasing and so dined in each evening. Some of our yogis extended their stay and were blissfully happy and cosseted. A most endearing stay.

Dear MariekesAoL

Thank you for you kind and generous review.

We're always tremendously appreciative when group leaders decide to stay with us. But particularly so in your case.

Thank you for making Uma a wonderful hive of relaxation, health and enjoyment during your few days with us. Seeing you and your fellow travelers poolside, practicing yoga in our pavilion and dining in our Kemiri Restaurant, it seems that you all practice the Art of Living very well indeed. It was wonderful to see you all enjoy yourselves so much.

Thank you for enjoying Uma, and please do come back again, and again.

With warmest regards

Uma by COMO is a 29 roomed hotel and spa set by the Barat river among the paddy fields and hills of Sanggingan, a village about 1 mile northwest of central Ubud. The hotel is part of the Singapore-based COMO group that includes The Halkin and Metropolitan hotels in London, as well as fashion brands DKNY Jeans and Armani Exchange.

Unsurprisingly its properties also have a strong sense of style, presenting a sleekly modern and elegant design, while blending unobtrusively into the surrounding forested hillside. Each room has its own veranda and lawned garden overlooking the forest, where the ever-changing chorus of cicadas, birdsong and frog calls provide a mesmerising soundscape.

Our room was one of the entry-level villas, but was nonetheless elegant. Being mainly in white, it had a large 4 poster bed draped with mosquito nets, distressed white woodwork and a semi open-air shower, a huge bath, and lovely Venetian mirrors, as well as standard mod cons.

The resort has a fine infinity pool surrounded by trees, overlooked by the equally elegant bar and dining room. The hotel is about to be expanded to almost double the current number of rooms, with a new restaurant currently being built which will also be open to non-guests. It has an on-site spa, a yoga pavilion with classes twice a day, and a well-equipped gym.

One of the most endearing features of the hotel was that each suite was a separate villa. They are scattered along various forested paths, each villa with its own wooden gate, leading into a small garden and porch, which gave a very private and intimate feel to the hotel.

Dear thelondonfoodie

Thank you for your very thorough and complete review of Uma by COMO, Ubud.

We're very appreciative of your description of Uma and for painting such a clear picture of what guests can expect from a stay with us.

We're excited to announce that finishing touches are currently being made to only 17, carefully designed new villas and rooms. These will open in September 2013 and many of the new rooms feature private courtyard pools or infinity edge pools with views that look straight into the jungle and river gorge. Currently, Uma is 29 rooms. Soon, we will have 46 rooms. At under 50 rooms, Uma will continue to be a wonderful boutique property located on the fringe of Ubud town for discerning guests to enjoy.

We look forward to welcoming guests who stay with us as a result of reading your blog.

With best regards
