“Service Makes It Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

Kuyamanis Ubud is located in Sayan, close to the Ubud centre but enjoys a village surrounding. The villa is well-sized with open sitting area, a private pool, in-door and out-door shower, and a kitchen. The room is a little bit old but very well maintained. The butler service is swift and efficient, caring about everything you would think of. The view from the restaurant and the main pool is gorgeous. Highly recommended!

We stayed two nights and liked it. Although it is a little dark at night and the road to the hotel was terrible. The staffs are very nice and helpful. They always smile and treat customers nice from hearts not just doing their jobs. Will choose it again if come back to Ubud.

Awesome stay at Kayumanis Ubud Bali. Being a regular at Banyan Tree resorts at several locations, I must say that I'm blown away by the standards that Kayumanis has to offer. I'm confidently saying that I'm no longer missing BT offerings.

Visited during the low season, we're upgraded to Deluxe Villa. The villa is huge, equipped with a private pool, an outdoor living room, dining area & kitchenette. The bedroom comes with a romantic-looking wooden 4-pole king-size bed, next to an open-air bathroom, equipped with a huge bathtub and an outdoor shower. The entire floor area is luxurious. Close to nature, while I was watching the TV, humming birds flying & squirrels are watching. Amazing!

The best is yet to come ... They provide ala-crate buffet breakfast, with a choice of dining at their dining corner or in-villa!! They also provide daily complimentary English tea with sandwiches, cakes, cookies and a wide selection of tea & coffee. F&B here is superior. The chef obviously is dedicated and their Crispy Kayumanis Toast is a must try! Their fried crispy spring duck is also incredible delectable. Awwww ... I don't wish to leave ...

Not forgetting to mention, they provide unlimited private shuttle service to & Fro Ubud Market. (Location is definitely out, but it's exactly the reason why we picked it, to be close to nature)  Lastly, the Service Crew ... All are exceptionally well-trained. A special mention to Butler Yuli, very sharp, thoughtful & professional. My compliments to the entire team at Kayumanis Ubud.

This was our first trip to Bali and we stayed in three different areas during our 8 night trip - Canggu, Seminyak and Ubud. We found Kayumanis through the Luxe guide and managed to get a reasonable rate by pre-paying for our 3 night stay. Hands-down, it was a fantastic choice and I would stay in another Kayumanis property again. A few quick points to make it easy for the busy traveler trying to decide where to book:

-Villas are extremely spacious and private. The only enclosed area is the bedroom and the air-con and mosquito net around the bed are great and necessary. I loved the outdoor living area and kitchen, but using an outdoor toilet was a bit of a new experience!

-Staff was ridiculously friendly and went out of their way to ensure we were happy, even calling a few times to check in. This went a bit overboard at times, as it felt that all staff knew our itinerary at all times, but I guess that is just part of the hospitality.

-Spa massage was amazing. We had a free 90min massage as part of our package and it was the best one I had in Bali. The spa rooms are free standing villas overlooking the property and are completely private.

-Breakfast was included and we ate at our villa a few mornings. Huge and tasty portions (similar offerings to other villas). The on-site restaurant is also beautiful and eating there was a nice change of pace. Complimentary afternoon tea is truly a full, proper English tea set, so definitely ask for it if you'd like a savoury nosh.

-The biggest plus was the on-call driver that could take you wherever you wanted to go in Ubud & pick you up (before 10:30pm) for free. This was a great value-add for us since the villa is about 10-15 mins from Central Ubud and we didn't know our way around and didn't feel safe on moto taxis.

-The only drawback is that the villa is so amazing that we never wanted to leave and therefore, we didn't see or do much in Ubud! Guess that means we will have to return...

Room Tip: We had a newer villa & loved it.

There are three types of resorts in Bali. Western resorts trying to be Indonesian, Indonesian resorts trying to be Western and resorts that just do their own thing it would not have mattered where they were (eg. W Hotel). Kayumanis falls within the second category.

Personally, I say when in Rome, do what the Romans do... hence we stayed in Kayumanis Ubud.

The ride from the airport to the resort takes about 40+ minutes. As you are about to arrive at the resort, the roads get bumpier and narrower. You are probably wondering to yourself, where is this guy taking me??? It is in the middle of a "residential area". If you blink, you will probably miss the resort sign at the entrance. As you arrive, the check-in area is dimly lit (we arrived late at night) and looks pretty ordinary.

The good news is, things get better from there on. Check-in is pretty straight forward and we get shown our villa pretty quickly. Each villa has a good size pool and four post bed. The sleeping, mini-kitchen, living and bathroom areas are all separated, clean and working. The villa has a nice ambiance.

You should note that we did get one of the "newer" villas by request. Some of the villas are older, so I would recommend that you do the same if you plan to stay here.

Not everything in the villa is perfect though. As you would expect, there are some insects in the common open areas given it is set amongst the forest. Importantly, the sleeping area/villa is air-conditioned and the bed has a mosquito net so no such problems there (as long as you remember to shut the glass door!). Drinks in the mini-bar are limited but complimentary, you get wifi in the villa but the speed and connection is not great. The bathroom/toilet is open aired and "wall-less". Privacy is not a problem though because you are within your own compound and the walls are pretty high.

Breakfast is good but the choices are limited. We stayed for four days and pretty much tried everything. It wasn't a problem for us because we were happy to order the same Indonesian breakfast option. As part of our package, we also opted for the romantic candle light dinner. Just before sunset, staff would spread flower petals into the pool and light up lots of tea light candles around the villa. You had to be there, it was just amazing/romantic. However, the three/four course Western meal itself was a little bit disappointing. Kayumanis should consider serving Indonesian cuisine rather than trying their hand at Western fine dining and falling short.

The resort's best asset by far is the service. Everyone was friendly, warm and genuine. One night coming back after an entire day of shopping, my wife asked the front desk girls for advice because she had difficulty finding good and reasonably priced batik. Upon hearing this, they immediately offered to take us back to Ubud town to a couple of shops they knew of. For the record, they were genuine recommendations, not ones that they had prior arrangements with. Trust me, this type of service you do not just get anywhere and we should know because we have travelled quite a bit.

All in all, we would highly recommend Kayumanis Ubud. The service is amazing, the villas are great and the resort feels intimate and "Indonesian". It is like a little comfortable Indonesian resort tucked away from tourist hotspots and minus the fuss you usually get at some of the other international resorts. Verdict: five stars!
