“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

After a great Stay in Sanur, we were sad to leave and thinking we have made a mistake by leaving. But oh no, it was not a mistake. This place was just amazing. Everything we had hoped for and more after reading all the great reviews. Peaceful calm relaxing, just what you need after the busy streets of Ubud. The rice fields were a calming effect after busy days of sight seeing and shopping. Thanks for a great stay!

We were fortunate to be able to stay for a whole week in this beautiful hotel (comprising of five individual houses). We enjoyed the friendliness and excellent service of the staff, the view over the rice paddies, the quietness and afternoon tea. It is a perfect home away from home in a further very busy Ubud area. We had nice dinners in different restaurants, but the best taste and value we found by D’Waroeng just down the street.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, the choice is if you want to climb the stairs.

We had a wonderful stay at Alam Jiwa. From the very first email to the last good bye the service is fantastic. You just cannot beat it. We were a group of 12 people with 2 kids, and so planning was a bit hectic, but the staff always responded promptly to all of my emails and many changes. They made the planning part very very simple. The hotel is located in the rice paddies about a 20 minute walk away from Ubud, but as others have mentioned, the shuttle service is very convenient and the hotel is just so peaceful away from the craziness of the town. The staff went out of their way to get vans from their sister hotels to ensure that all of us got to the restaurants and performances on time. The shuttle service is free and very very convenient.

We stayed in the Cendrawasih Suite, our friends stayed at Gelatik, Kenari, and the bedroom below Kenari. Cendrawasih was very very nice but we all really liked the Gelatik room (I think this was the name--has a beautful outdoor shower). We all would gather and have tea together in Cendrawasih so it was great for a big group. The C suite was more than enough for our family (5 people). Some of the other posts mentioned wildlife in the rooms ..we only noticed the typical mozzies/geckos..nothing else...so not sure what the the other posts were talking about.

At first I thought we should of booked Alam Shanti, but after visiting Alam Shanti (though it's very nice) I prefer the location of Alam Jiwa in the rice paddies. Almost all of the rooms have rice paddy views..at least the ones on the top floor. The pool is really nice too for a relaxing swim after shopping in the hot sun. Alam Shanti has the spa and the rooms look newer, but I felt Alam Jiwa had more character and you can easily walk to the spa since Alam Shanti is only located about 5 minutes away. This is not your typical hotel room stay..if you are looking for your typical marriott/hilton hotel room you will be disappointed . If you are looking for a balinese style with great service ,in the rice paddies, at a great rate, then look no further.

Let me add that the staff really made our stay. Very very friendly and willing to help in anyway possible. We did not have A/C on the top floor of the Cendrawasih suite, but we were fine with just the fan. There was always a nice breeze so not too many mosquitos bites either.

Room Tip: Book rooms on the top floor with Rice Paddy views. Be sure to ask for A/C though we were fine withou...

We stayed in Alam Jiwa for one week and it was so great we barely left the hotel; we had a lovely garden room with plenty of space to lounge and really relax. Huge big room and luxurious outdoor bathroom. Beautiful countryside setting with squirrels, lizards and frogs in the garden, lots of running water and gorgeous padi fields surrounding. The village is very quiet but has lots of places to eat nearby - Laka Leke, Alam Jiwa's sister restaurant, is a league above the rest with exquisite food and great performances. We were absolutely spoiled with an indulgent breakfast on our terrace every morning and afternoon tea by the pool. The staff were fantastic - super friendly and excellent attention to detail. Can't wait to come back again!

We stayed at Alam Jiwa for two nights and we loved it
From the minute we arrived we felt total spoilt the grounds and pools are great
Our room was just beautiful , clean and spacious . The bathroom is huge with an outdoor showere area
The view from the verander looking out over rice paddys breathtaking and the sound of running water from the small river below was soothing
This was made even better with the delivery of afternoon tea and breakfast each day yummy
Breakfast is the best ...
Staff are all very friendly and helpful. As it is a little out of ubud so there is a free transfer service to and from the resort at ant time
Each night staff bring mosquito coils to your room as an added bonus

We stayed at the Alam Jiwa and loved it. Spacious bungalows with amazing views of the rice paddies and jungle. Peaceful, open air and very, very Balinese. And a big plus: It's within walking distance to the center of Ubud, but not so close as to be affected by the noise and tourist traffic. They also provide a shuttle into Ubud if you don't feel like walking.

I didn't want to leave!

Room Tip: My favorite is the open air shower/bath. Heaven!

We stayed in the Garuda room at the Alam Jiwa. Our first impression was "WOOOW!", the view from the terrace was gorgeous and the room itself was spacious and beautifully arranged. The bathroom is semiopen, which is weird at the beginning but you will love it if you are a nature lover. We had a gecko friend that would like to watch us in the shower, it was quite funny. The first night we were very concerned about bugs (given that the hotel is right by the rice fields and I am terrified of bugs) so we bunkered ourselves inside the mosquito net. However, during the whole week of our stay the only animals I saw in the room were little geckos. Oh, and one tokay gecko that somehow found his way into the closet and would sing super loud at 5 am sometimes. However, this didn't bother us, in fact I found it really fun to share the room with our special friend and hearing him sing made us laugh every morning. Being from the city, we never really get to experience this type of things.
The pool area is also gorgeous, very easy to relax with a good book while listening to the water pouring from the statues. Also, they serve complimentary cake and tea in the afternoon, which was nice. Breakfast was really good every morning, delicious fruit and jaffles and freshly squeezed juices. Only con was that it was all vegetarian, which made us choose the city for breakfast a couple of times craving a good piece of yummy bacon. But nonetheless it was delicious. The staff at the hotel is very polite, and they drive you for free to and from Ubud upon request. The hotel is 2 mins away from the monkey forest, which you can go through and be in the busy city in 5-10 mins. We found Chili's, a nice little restaurant about 4 blocks away from the hotel, to be quite nice as well.
Thank you Alam Jiwa! Definitely recommended.
