“Gorgeous place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

We stayed in the Garuda room at the Alam Jiwa. Our first impression was "WOOOW!", the view from the terrace was gorgeous and the room itself was spacious and beautifully arranged. The bathroom is semiopen, which is weird at the beginning but you will love it if you are a nature lover. We had a gecko friend that would like to watch us in the shower, it was quite funny. The first night we were very concerned about bugs (given that the hotel is right by the rice fields and I am terrified of bugs) so we bunkered ourselves inside the mosquito net. However, during the whole week of our stay the only animals I saw in the room were little geckos. Oh, and one tokay gecko that somehow found his way into the closet and would sing super loud at 5 am sometimes. However, this didn't bother us, in fact I found it really fun to share the room with our special friend and hearing him sing made us laugh every morning. Being from the city, we never really get to experience this type of things.
The pool area is also gorgeous, very easy to relax with a good book while listening to the water pouring from the statues. Also, they serve complimentary cake and tea in the afternoon, which was nice. Breakfast was really good every morning, delicious fruit and jaffles and freshly squeezed juices. Only con was that it was all vegetarian, which made us choose the city for breakfast a couple of times craving a good piece of yummy bacon. But nonetheless it was delicious. The staff at the hotel is very polite, and they drive you for free to and from Ubud upon request. The hotel is 2 mins away from the monkey forest, which you can go through and be in the busy city in 5-10 mins. We found Chili's, a nice little restaurant about 4 blocks away from the hotel, to be quite nice as well.
Thank you Alam Jiwa! Definitely recommended.

We stayed here for four night after traveling for 30 hours to reach Bali. From the first greeting to the final farewell our experience was perfect. This was our favorite place to stay in all of Indonesia. The setting is beautiful, overlooking rice fields with traditional Balinese architecture. The staff was responsive to our every request without being intrusive. Delicious breakfast was brought to our room each morning and we ate as the sun rose over the rice fields and the mountains beyond. It's about a 15 minute walk through the monkey forest to the heart of Ubud. Although it is centrally located, it feels secluded and was very quiet and peaceful. The room was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. The daily offerings are a wonderful touch of traditional Balinese culture. I wish we had stayed longer.

We just got home after staying 3 nights at Alam Jiwa in the Kasuary Room. We had 2 adults and 2 children and at the time i booked this it was the only room left, so they added 2 extra beds. A little squishy inside but the huge verandah and bathroom made up for it.

The rooms are comfortable. The breakfast delicious. The afternoon tea.....well put it this way there was no way we were ever going to miss out on those delicious home made cakes! Yum!
The day bed with the rice paddy views and the sound of running water is sooo relaxing.

This really is a peaceful setting suitable for families or couples. The friendly staff are always accomadating and happy. The free shuttle service in to town is essential and we used it a few times a day and it was never a problem at all. We did the monkey forest walk into town once and thats it as those monkeys are evil little buggers lol!

If you want a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle and a place close to nature and all it's wildlife then this is the place to stay. We certainly will return next year. Thanks guys for the friendly faces and memorable holiday. Coopa said "HI" and yes he is still playing the flute and has now brought a harmonica !!!

Room Tip: They all look good to me but i suppose a room on 2nd or 3rd floor the best.

This place is excellent - beautiful, peaceful, and the food and hospitality are first-rate. It is close to everything yet still feels secluded and private. The owner is lovely and plays a mean harmonica!

Such a beautiful feeling to this place. A long driveway may have you a little uneasy when you arrive but this place is so peaceful and beautiful. A great base for an extended stay in Ubud. They were extremely helpful in arranging outings and transportation for us. They are affiliated with excellent restaurants. Just a short walk to through the much less chaotic side of the monkey forest.

We were booked in Alam Shanti but a mistake in bookings led them to upgrade us to Jiwa. We were told all rooms here were recently renovated. Our room was huge, on 3 levels facing paid fields, with two king sized beds and 2 bathrooms. The upper bath is beautiful with an open shower with a view of the fields. The basement had a kitchen with a fridge and plenty of filtered water.

All Alam hotels are located a good 20 minutes walk (through the Monkey Forest) from the main town of Ubud, so they provide free transfers into town, as many as you need (you can call for a pick up) which is a great service. The pool area is nice although not as lush as at Alam Indah. Breakfast and afternoon tea are included and very good (make sure to ask for the bread basket, from the Wayan bakery).

Jiwa is probably the most upmarket of the 3 Alam hotels, the difference is size of rooms, view, and at Jiwa rooms have phones and hair dryers which Indah rooms do not have. Otherwise style and type of service seem similar.
