“a great stay in the Kayu Lama SPACIOUS villa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

It was a big gamble to stay at this hotel when there were no reviews anywhere in the internet. I took my chance and I stayed, and GUESS WHAT it was a GREAT GAMBLE! In order for you not to gamble but book based on someones experience, here is my review:

The place is new and it has 4 villas, 1 two bedroom villa and 3 one bedroom villas. They are currently building one more villa behind the lobby.
The location is only some minutes away from the little village centre and they have free shuttle service. The lobby is quite small and it overlays the rice fields. The staff are super friendly and most of them speak good English. Gusti is the superstar of the property, very smooth communication and will get out of his way to make your stay pleasent.

I traveled with my wife and we stayed in a one bedroom villa. The villa is very spacious and had a nice setup. There is a private door that takes through a path full of plantation to a good 30 meter sqr private pool that overlays the rice fields from one side and the bedroom to the other side. The pool area has a dinning corner which Gusti has surprised my wife with a romantic setup of flowers in the pool and candles in the table! The bedroom is a balinase style room with a sattelite TV (which I think needs more channels). The bedroom is small and cosy and the bed is clean and comfy. The Airconditioning is excellent. The bathroom is semi indoor/outdoor with a beautiful bath. It also has a shower (which I think water needs to have more pressure).
They do have room service at reasonable prices, and the breakfast is very and tasty, however, they should add more varieties.

Overall, yes, I would stay again and recommend this place to a close friend.

One of the most natural looking private balinese villa with a modern touch. Staffs were always helpful and efficient. Pool was of perfect size for couple with a wonderful open view to the fields, yet keeping that important sense of privacy, which is just amazing. Being only a few months old, there are still room for improvements, nothing serious to fault e.g lack of self making tea/coffee bar(but is requestable upon room service), could use some better spa grade shampoo and bath foam etc. but generally all these are minor issues considering its a very new estate. Gusti, the manager and his staffs were accomodating and genuine, and the owner was always around make sure everything goes smoothly, not forgetting the owner's elder brother who was the transportation man, great guy too...The room was cozy with a super king size poster bed which was more then comfy. Bathroom was naturally aired with beautifully crafted wooden walls and artifects. Stayed at a few villas before and villa kayu lama can be ranked in the tops of the list now. Location is great for being quiet and calm as its in the outskirts of Ubud town (15-20mins away), but there is free shuttle at allocated timings. After 630pm, you may have to pay for any transport service to and fro from Ubud town if required, which doesn't cost a lot anyway for the convenience. Basically, my partner and I had a really relaxed, stress free, and lovely stay here.

My son gave me a big hug and said your the best dad ever just after we arrived. Wow I would go back just for that. It was the private pool that induced this response. I was impressed with the huge bathrooms and large rooms with lots of natural light through windows that look out on the paddy fields and the pool. The place felt luxurious. The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. As a family of four staying with my grand parents the kids went on a mattress on the floor in our room. I was a little surprised with this as it was advertised to be a villa that accommodated 4 adults and 2 children. My wife said that due to the young age of our boys she wouldn't be happy with the children sleeping on their own in the second room on their own as it is detached and separated by the outdoor dining area (which is also very airy and attractive with its own fish pond) As it worked out for the couple of days with my parents in the Ubud area and close to Bali Zoo it worked well for us.
It is a little out of Ubud (approximately 15min drive) and it will cost you in transport but for the quality of accommodation the price is very competitive. The Villa has it's own transport service run by the owners older brother who is a very pleasant.
Overall I would recommend this place to couples and families with older children that want a place to relax by their own pool with the occasional outing to the sights/attractions around Ubud. Great value.

Found this Villa via agoda.com for my Bali pre wedding ....

In deed it was located just right beside to paddy field.

We were all welcome by a super nice welcome drinks...and most important the staffs here are all friendly helpful and honest !

All villa was fitted with a latest type of infinity pool! Such a romantic and highly privacy villa I can say! U can just simply jump into the pool at any time u like - mayb naked:).....

The toilet was another amazing things for me with open air concept with Direct sun light that let us have a warmest feeling while taking shower.

Do not rushing looking for your own tour guide in fact they have a local hotel professional tour guide! Surprisingly the price of local tour guide with transportation services is even cheaper then those you hire from outside....That was great!

Thank you very much to every1 in - villa Kayu lama!

We will be here again soon

A new estate which opened in January, I found this property on Booking.com which had a very attractive deal for a 2-bedroom villa. The gallery of pics on their website looked very promising, and true enough, the cosy estate looked just like it did in pictures! Surrounded by luminous green padi fields (ripe for the harvest), we checked in for 3 nights at the end of March. Depending on your package, there is free airport transfers.

The architecture is more clean and contemporary than most other Bali-styled villas, which is what I was looking for. The rooms are still in mint condition with beautiful recycled wood used for furniture. Each air-conditioned villa is fitted with a king-sized bed, with a poster-styled mosquito net which cocoons me at night for a restful slumber. The bathroom at the back is open air with nary a lizard in sight, to my delight! What I really liked about the rooms is that they are encased with full glass doors, which bring lot of light into the room, and offers unadulterated views of the rice fields. More importantly, there is free Wifi and lots of cable channels!

The short drive into the estate reminds me of visiting relatives in a kampung where the dirt roads are sleepy and narrow. As we enter the compound, we already felt a sense of welcome with the beautiful pruned palm and papaya trees in the foyer along with feathery mascots - a few mynas and parrots. It's a small and cosy estate just the way I like it, currently with four 1-2 bedroom villas, but plans are underway to add on more units by the end of the year.

The service by the English-speaking Balinese staff is impeccable, and their warmth is even extended by the estate's owner, who pays daily visits to feed his darling birds. The reception area doubles up as the dining area which is a great space to read, reflect, get to know other visitors and plan your itinerary with the guest relations officer.

The villa is a 25-20min drive to Ubud Central, so cycling or walking is not advised. But the villa provides free twice-daily shuttle service to the centre. You can also have them arrange sight-seeing tours for an affordable fee (no need to book with travel agencies outside). Breakfast is complimentary in the villa. if there's something u crave that's not in the menu, the kitchen staff do try their best to accommodate, like when I asked for babi guling for lunch (just so happens the owner has a babi guling shop of his own!) I suggest staying in the villa in the day to soak in the sun, and eat out in the evening to sample Ubud's well-known restaurants like Dirty Duck for deep fried duck, and Naughty Nuri's for barbeque ribs.

Some minor things that could be improved on: a coffee machine or sachets in the room, a kitchenette with cutlery and plates, and a bench for my suitcase.

Room Tip: Ask for the villa with the most view of the rice fields
