“Bali Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

We stayed for 4 nights in January 2013.
The Hotel is located in a very quiet area so we found this very relaxing after staying in Legian.
The rooms are a good size and the views onto the rice fields are beautiful. The layout of the hotel grounds seems very natural to the landscape.
Since this is a smaller hotel you dont see lots of guests rushing around so you really do find yourself unwinding very quickly.
We went into Ubud each day using the free shuttle bus and you can get a taxi back for 30,000 Rph if you dont want to stand around waiting for the hourly shuttle bus.
You can do plenty of day trips from Ubud so 4 days will go very quickly.
The restaurant and reception area are being refurbished so we went into Ubud for or our dinner.
Breakfast was lovely (alacarte style) but not the buffet that most hotels offer.
The staff are very friendly and happy to help with any request.
Great day spa, fantastic heated spa which is very nice around 8pm!!
Only down would be that kids will get bored very quickly.-
Overall i would recommend this Hotel.

My 18 year old daughter made her first 'grown up' trip to Bali last week with her boyfriend. They stayed at the Waka di Ume for 6 nights and unfortunately she had $A50 stolen out of her wallet, which she had hidden at the bottom of her back pack, by the cleaners. They were at the pool and could see their room from where they were sitting. The cleaners went in, and they said there was a male and female and the male kept looking out the window at them (lifting the curtain) and they were really suspicious. He was probably keeping a lookout while the female cleaner rifled through the bags. I asked my daughter if she had reported it to the manager at the time, but she said that they couldn't prove it and, as she is quite shy, my daughter felt like they wouldn't believe a teenager! The unfortunate thing is that it was MY MONEY they stole, so I didn't get the handbag that I asked my daughter to get for me!!! She had kept it separate from her money so she didn't spend it. Don't leave any valuables or money in your room at this hotel. This also throughly spoilt the holiday for my daughter and her boyfriend. This was her 12th trip to Bali and his first - he doesn't want to go back again ever!

Room Tip: Make sure that ALL MONEY goes in the safe at this hotel. The cleaners will search your bags looking...

We stayed for 7 nights at Waka Di Ume. It is in a beautiful setting right amongst the rice fields and all rooms have a nice view. The pool, spa and yoga room were all lovely as was our hotel room which was spacious and modern.

Whilst we couldn't fault the service, our room or the food we did feel that perhaps 7 nights was a little too long for us here. There is no tv, radio and music, which was lovely for the first 3 or 4 days.. However, after a few days and given the hotel is about 10 minutes out of the main strip we would've loved to have come back to the hotel, watch some tv and order room service. The shuttle into the main area leaves every hour which sometimes was a pain as you always had to time all of your activities to make sure it coincided with the shuttle service.

Overall, we had a very positive experience at Waka Di Ume, it is a well-run hotel in a lovely setting. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle then this is the place for you!

When I was looking for somewhere to stay in Ubud I wanted something away from the main strip, and something with a view, at a reasonable price, this was it.

It's currently under renovation but will be complete by mid December from memory. The makeshift restaurant was still a nice setting though. The Staff there are all wonderful, I must praise one of the transfer drivers who drove me around town to find a clinic to buy some Panadol for my daughter too..

We had the Lanai Rice Terrace with Pool, massive room, great pool and view, and little hut for lunch as well. I did miss having a TV by the end as my 1 year old didn't handle the humidity outside too well and would have been handy, as we were confined to the Villa more than we wanted to be. But that's not a complaint at all.

Food/Drink prices are high compared to the previous 3 nights in Seminyak, and also compared to going out in Town, but the food is excellent. $6 for a Milkshake is too much though.. The aircon in the room is directly behind the bed, which is fine to keep it cool but the noise was annoying trying to get to sleep because other than that it's completely peaceful there.

It's a beautiful resort, with some nice views, and not too far out of town with the hotel shuttle very handy. My wife used the Spa and mentioned it was wonderful also. We would go back.

Room Tip: Definitely get a room with a pool, even though the Resort Pool is brilliant.. But we loved our own.

The Waka di Ume was an absolute pleasure to stay at. The staff were incredible and treated us like royalty the whole time (including two upgrades throughout our stay). They seemed to all know our names within hours of checking in and no request was too large for them to fulfill. The setting was an oasis in the middle of rice paddies and gave a much more authentic "Baliense" feel than that of the typical tourist hotels. The swimming pool was amazing, and many activities were offered. The shuttle ran regularly into the centre of Ubud which was the perfect way to sample the local restaurants, then come back to the tranquility of the hotel. I especially loved the long baths on the balcony watching the sunset every night - heaven! I would not hesitate to recommend this lovely experience to anyone needing some rest and relaxation. We were certainly sad to leave and look forward to coming back in the near future.

Just come home from the Waka yesterday. Was nice, however is a bit tired and is currently under renovation. Annoyingly they did not inform us of this when we booked. We stayed in a rice terrrace pool villa, is good for 2 x singles as there are 2 x beds or a family. However the A/C is inadequate for the space and does not cool the bed in the open area, which is hot all day. You need to change and use the main bedroom if you want to stay cool. Room and bathroom was pleasant, is quite rustic, if you like shabby chic look you will love it. Pool was nice addition, though the main pool area is quite scenic and shady.
Due to renovation the breakfast and dinner area is very basic, definately not up to standard for the money we paid. Breakfast was average, they need to step up the quality of the bread, pastries and provide a toaster, cold toast is not acceptable, however the staff are lovely and did heat our toast when requested.
Afternoon teas were not at all impressive, the cold toast re-emerged one day as a small club sandwich. We did actually send ours back one day and again, the staff are so lovely they brought us some nice cake, much more befitting tea time. However we were expecting something a bit more lavish as other resorts in Ubud serve some pretty awesome teas.
We ordered room service twice for lunch, hamburgers and sandwiches, which were great and tasty.
The yoga was not on when we stayed, is only 2 times a week which is a great pity as their yoga room is beautiful. The spa is expensive compared to rest of Ubud, but the facility itself is nice, but not 5 star. We felt if the prices were dropped we would have used it a lot instead of going out for treatments.
Shuttle to town was always on time and staff very polite and sweet.
Lastly, when we arrived the free wi fi was not working , unfortunately needed a trip into an Ubud cafe to connect. Didn't happen again during stay but we could have done without the irritation. Again the staff were helpful and apologetic. Honestly, this has happened to us before - thats bali - but we have always recieved either a room credit, dinner etc. we felt they should have compensated us for that inconvenience.
If you like a nice room in the rice fields, you will love it, but it is not a 5 star resort, and is at the pricey end for rooms and suites in Ubud.

Nestled in a rice-field, and away from the hustle and bustle of the city and shops, this Resort provides a great place to unwind and relax. Do not look for a TV--there aren't any in the rooms! This means that guests are motivated to make full use of the facilities--swimming pool, yoga center, walk in the rice fields, or laze with fine food and drinks at the restaurant. The town is nearby in case you want to visit arts and crafts museums or showrooms. Prices of branded goods are also reasonable at the town. Will visit again!
