“Excellent front desk staff, very reasonable food, laundry service pricing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

I've stayed in Ubud before, but specifically stayed here because of the superior service other reviews mentioned.

We used a driver from the airport, for 200k. Ubud taxi is about the same price too.

As many hotels in Bali, it's nestled between residences, rice fields and other businesses. We had two porters with a cart help with the luggage. They waited while we checked in at the front desk. We had a nice orange/mandarin welcome drink. Ibu Wayan was very helpful, and explained breakfast, the free shuttle, room service and other features. No safety box in the room, but a safe deposit box was available at the front desk.

We were tired, so headed directly to the room. It's got the Balinese style door that is secured from the outside by a padlock through two rings. Looks strange, but I've never had any theft from my room on any trips.

We ordered a few things from room service that first night, and were quite happy with the taste, price and speed of delivery. Most mains are $4-6, plus 21% tax and service. My favorites were the Squid snack basket with fries for about $3. Coconut Red Snapper, Fishermans basket and pasta dishes were all very good. The steak and pizzas aren't up to par, so I'd skip those. We ordered 1-2 meals every day, and spent about $90 over 5 days. A great deal.

The free breakfast was pretty good. Indonesian noodles, rice, or western eggs and bacon available off the menu, not buffet style. Reasonable portions, plus fruit juices, tea/coffee, fresh fruit, toast all included. You could also have it delivered to your room.

We used the shuttle a couple of times. Fits 5-7 passengers, depending on size. Usually you set up a pickup time when you get dropped off. The Ubud market has ok deals if you bargain hard. If you go to Tanah Lot, they have much better deals on shirts and souvenirs. We wanted some wood sculptures, but they were way too pricey. There is a gallery as part of the hotel, but pricing was a bit crazy for tourists. $1500 for a large carved panel. I saw similar ones at other places for $300 or less. Not sure if the quality is similar or not.

Ibu Okas was very good for their suckling pig. It's a very basic setting, but the food was very good. $4-$6 for most plates.

The hotel has a medium sized pool. A bit of mold around the tiles, but otherwise ok. Loungers, and shade too, if you don't want to be in the sun.

Near the front desk, they have loaner books, and 75-100 DVDs you can play in your room. No charge.

Comments about the room.

The room is a little rustic. Nice detailing, but needs some upkeep. The faucet in the bathroom seemed loose. Nice mini fridge, 2 free waters per day. Minibar items fairly priced. Laundry costs were 25 cents to 75 cents each, for most items. Most days if laundry was picked up in the morning, it'd be back in the evening.

The bathroom is open to the back. An interesting concept, but it got a little hot. Also when people were being rowdy, you'd hear it all. The stench of smoking was really bad at times from these same neighbors. I was disappointed they didn't have the Indonesan style sprayers for the toilet.

The room has a tube tv, with just local channels, no international ones. A DVD player is a plus. I did find the king bed, which was just two twin beds pushed together, a bit uncomfortable. My back hurt every morning when I woke up. A better quality mattress would really help.

Massages were available in the evening only. Good quality, about $17 for a 90 minute massage. In the massage room only, not in your room.

We really enjoyed our stay here. For $50 or so for the basic Garden room, I find it a good value.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room.

A friendly, clean, quiet, peaceful and calm place to stay. We stayed in the family villa which had 3 bedrooms (1 upstairs) and all had their own bathroom which was great with 2 teenagers. Not a high rise but all on one level and set in amongst lovely bush. Located in Mas, and although out of Ubud (10-15 minutes by car) the free shuttle service (anytime between 8 am and 10 pm) was great. The breakfast (included) was great for the first couple of days but after that became a bit repetitive. We would stay here again and recommend it.

Room Tip: Can recommend the family villa.

A very pleasant quiet garden setting with lovely staff and top service, they are genuinely interested in making sure you have a good time. Comfy bed, free wifi, lovely breakfast included with value for money room rate. Bathroom basic but adequate. Free Shuttle to Ubud on demand was an excellent service. Overall a small price for big service. Restaurant served very nice meals and very reasonably priced. We would come back here again.

Room Tip: The rooms on the ground floor are better as you have chairs and table to sit outside.

The living room is dusty and the furniture is too old. In the bathroom, the shower hose is broken and leaking, meanwhile the light is too dim. The bedsheet is yellowish and the bed is dirty, definitely not my choice in my next trip to Bali again.

Dreadful, poor customer service, terrible location and mosquito paradise. You are not in the “country”. You are in an industrial area surrounded by businesses and no restaurants or tourist amenities.

The rooms are old, smelly, open aired and very outdated. We were impressed with the cottages in the beginning with the design of an upstairs and downstairs but after further examination it was old and more like camping with a roof over your head.

The rooms are all open air so there are no widows with glass and there is a gap between the roof and main structure of the cottage. This allows free flowing air which means mosquitos, ants, etc can access the inside of the cottage.

The first night we had about 6 mosquitos in our bedroom that we tried to get out. After about 30 minutes we went to reception and told them of the problem. They said they would put another mosquito coil in the room but we already had one that was not doing its job. He then showed up another room that had a mosquito net. It was considered an upgrade so at 2200 I found myself negotiating a price for the room. We ended up moving our entire luggage with no help from the hotel staff at 2230 with a pregnant wife.

The bathroom is all open air, which is nice but allows hundreds of bug’s access into the shower area. The shower is less than pleasurable as I found myself beating away mosquitos.

We had dinner there the last night because there is no where else to go. After we paid I noticed they rounded the change in their favor. No big deal because it was only pennies, just cheeky. The next morning the waitress came to me saying they gave too much change last night and wanted to see the change because I owned them money. Inappropriate behavior for a hotel that rounds in their favor.
When checking out we told the manger about our experience and he looked at us with a blank stare. No apology for the poor service or even an explanation.

Don’t be eluded by this hotel that you are in the country with beautiful surroundings. You are in an industrial area on a busy street. This hotel has poor customer service, terrible rooms and a mosquito haven. Stay away.

It was $65 per night. At this price is wasn't bad.
Reception is VERY VERY hard to find, with no signage at all. You need to walk almost to the end of the complex before finding it.
We were in a room very close to reception, which meant that the reception phone could be heard in our room. It was quite loud, and not what I wanted I hear whilst on holidays.
Breakfast was fair, not bad, not brilliant. Quite basic.
We went on a morning rice field walk with Made. It was excellent, and definitely one of the highlights of our stay.
The rooms are around 10-15 minutes from the centre of Ubud, however the free, on demand shuttle gets you in and out easily. I suggest you book the shuttle, we had to wait in excess of 30 minutes several times.
The pool is nice, hoever towels are difficult to find. Ask for them.
There are lots of chairs throughout the complex to sit in. Unfortunately, none of these are cofortable, and do not invite the lounging I was after.
Some of the rooms have been updated, these are quite nice. The older rooms are exactly that. Old, worn out and in much need of some love.
Try it for yourself. It doesn't cost the earth, and didn't kill us.

Room Tip: ASk for a refurbished room away from reception.

This was our fourth visit to Taram Harum and if you don't mind being a loittle out of Ubud its a grteat place to stay. Excellent value for money and the rooms are clean, good size and in the process of being upgraded.
The staff were are excellent friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble.he free shuttle to and from Ubud works well and is quick.
The food is good and not too expensive. The pool was good as well and we enjoyed the morning rice paddy walk.
We were treated like old friends as opposed to guests and nothing was toio much trouble. The owner Hari and the manager Tri are two of the most lovely prople you could meet and if you ask Hari may even show you his collection of Harley Davidson motorbikes!!

Room Tip: The rooms are good value for money and we liked the outsiode bathrooms. The only problem was had was...
