I fortunately accompanied my husband to Kamandalu when he attended a conference there. We were impressed from the time we first saw the beautiful tropical resort until the time we had to leave a wonderfully decorated nighttime farewell pool party. The setting is unbelievably awe inspiring, the rooms were out of a dream, and the staff was incredible.

The treatment by the staff at Kamandalu was superb and one of my fondest memories. They consistently made me feel that I was a very special person and I have never been treated with such sincere kindness.

Kamandalu offers many great tours of Bali and my favorite was a "behind the scenes" tour seeing and meeting some of the Bailinese residents, including Ketut Liyer, the now famous Balinese medicine man. Thanks to them, we participated in a temple ceremony. I learned so much about the culture and the Hindu religion.

I loved everything about this resort, the scenery, our room, outside showers, swiming pool, my reflexology treatment, food (paraticularly the tropicla fruit), and, of course, the staff.

I am so thankful for my visit to Kamandalu. It was a fantastic experience and I continue to smile when I think about it.

nice villa park, with verry beautifull villa's and an amazing tropical garden. the staff is verry helpfull and verry verry verry kind. they even know your name already after 1 day. they make you feel at home and they are like a family to eachother. every one enjoys they're work so the atmosfere is verry relaxed. the breakfast is superb. and the vieuw from the restaurant is breath taking. the villa's are also verry nice. its an amazing experience when you take your rain shower in the evening and you can see the sky filled with bright stars. this is because the rainshower is in a private area of the villa, outdoors where no one can see you. this was the second time for us, so we where treated as honorfull guestst. they even put a white flag in front of our villa.so the staff would know that we where there for the second time.

I truly felt like royalty at the Kamandalu Resort and Spa. For the three nights I stayed here I felt like one of the "rich and famous" people but didn't have to pay the rich and famous price. The three nights there were part of a Goway holiday package. My accomodation was updated to a garden villa that was very large and had an extra outside bed upstairs as part of the main villa. Looking out from there to the rice paddies and greenery and listening to the noises of bird life was a memorable experience. Staff went out of their way to be friendly. The pool area is quite something with water flowing over the sides and a small wading area with chaise lounges scattered throughout and a swim up bar. The main dining room is large and the food is good but not great, although the breakfast was excellent. There is a free shuttlebus to Ubud and back so if you tire of the quiet and being waited upon, you can always go there to see the sights and eat. I did take their three hour bicycle trip that went to a local village and through the rice paddies. The guide was very competent. Thank you Kamandalu for a wonderful experience!

When we arrived we had to wait over an hour for our room to be ready and we even had to go and find someone to remind them. The rooms are spacious we had a delux villa and the pool & daybed is great although it rained for us for the whole stay. However the furniture obviously hasn't been updated for years and I wouldn't consider the interiors as luxury.

A few things that were not up to scratch were:

The hotel shuttle bus was old and I had to sit on a broken seat at the back on the floor.
We waited in the rain for an hour for the bus to take us back as the first one got full (they only fit about 8 people).
All other shuttle buses from hotels in the area were modern with the hotel logo on the side and they had more than one turn up on the hour.

The food is not that great we had much better in Bali

The reception was slow at checking us in

The bar and pool table were drenched so the only place to hang out when its raining was a wash out and the bar was not even open or running. You'd think they'd cover up the pool table!!

Maybe if it was sunny the whole time we wouldn't have noticed these problems so much but I guess it really showed what the hotel is like as we needed the amenitites more because of the bad weather.

Of course the staff were polite and lovely as always in Bali but I just felt that this was not a luxury spa hotel and there are plenty of nicer better run ones in the area.

Nov 24, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We stayed here with friends and it was a highlight of our stay in Bali. Staff were very friendly and the food was fabulous. The villas are beautifully appointed with Balinese style architecture, fabulous indoor/outdoor bathrooms and views over the grounds. Beautiful swim up pool bar with happy hour specials. Shuttle in and out of Ubud is a great service and runs all the time. Ubud town is quite a bustling place now and this resort is just so relaxing without being boring so for us it was the perfect balance.
