“"Home Again"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

The dilemma of coming back to Ubud with its many ,many great places to stay is
"Try somewhere new, or return to what you know????"
This is the 3rd time for me & about 8th time for my sister coming to K@MK.
We go to breakfast between the 4 Komanekas on our visits & debate on splitting our 9 day stay between a few of them.
But no.... we delight in the feel of home here & everyone greeting us by name & the closeness to shops, eateries & attractions, you can walk everywhere from here.... The 'gifts' we receive on our return visits like free massages & feeling too lazy to pack up & move lol.
I will leave the other reviewers to detail the many splendid qualities of KMF...as there are no negatives I can think of. I will daydream until our return.....
If you can afford it go for villa & request one overlooking jungle 103 & 104 (I think)

Room Tip: Villas overlooking jungle & river is great

My wife and I and our adult son are staying at the Komaneka at Monkey Forest. It is one of the four Komaneka hotels in and near Ubud. This is our second trip to Ubud and the second time we have stayed at this property. This small boutique hotel is exceptional in every way. This visit we are staying in a pool villa overlooking a beautiful rice paddie. The pool villa has a large covered outdoor seating area with a teak table and chairs, a day bed, and a cabinet housing a mini bar. One of the many nice touches of this hotel is that there is a cokie jar with a constantly renewed supply of handmade mini chocolate chip cookies on the bar cabinet. There are also three extremely comfortable padded teak chaise lounge chairs under the large umbrella next to our own private plunge pool which we used every day. The bedroom has extremely comfortable twin beds under a beautiful canopy of netting fabric. The hotel added a third twin bed for the third member of our family. A huge marble bathroom with shower, a tube sunken into the floor, and space to hang and store clothes adjoins the bedroom. The tub was filled with warm water covered with flower petals when we arrived for a Balinese bath. Beautiful flower petal arrangements were on the beds as well. The hotel has a beautiful infinity pool with a spectacular view overlooking rice fields and a nice day spa. Lush vegetation, beautiful flowers, and gardens abound. We were offered a complimentary massage as returning guests and we found the spa staff to be professional and skillful. In fact the entire staff of this hotel are exceptional and that is why we returned and would return again. You are greeted by name as you enter and leave the hotel, the rooms are made up twice a day with fresh towels and bottled water, every staff member greets you with a smile and a pleasant exchange in English. The font desk id outstanding in helping us arrange transportation, book reservations at restaurants, giving us directions to dance locations, and offering suggestions on things to see. Yuli at the font desk is simply amazing and we thank her so much for her interest and enthusiasm in seeing that we had a great visit. Suja, our driver who picked us up at the airport, drove us to see temples and other sights, and offered good advice on shopping is another hotel employee who helped make our visit such a success. The breakfast every morning is very nice with a choice of western and Indonesian food, all of it very tasty. You can walk out the front courtyard of this hotel onto busy, interesting, Monkey Forest Road and walk to the Monkey Forest or to the Palace and other dance locations in 10 minutes. Shopping is all around you, as are hundreds of restaurants. Yet when you walk into the Komenaka at Monkey Forest it is a tranquil, serene, beautiful oasis for rest and relaxation In the heart of Ubud. Sheer bliss!!

Room Tip: The pool villa rooms are much more spacious and secluded with a great view over rice fields.

We are in Bali for three nights en route to Raja Ampat for some diving. We decided to stay in Ubud rather than closer to the airport and we are glad we did. We stayed at Komaneka at Monkey Forest two years ago and loved it. It is still excellent.

We were picked up at the airport by Komaneka's driver. He had a new, clean mini van for the two of us. He offered us cold towels and drinks. One tip for those arriving at the airport in Denpasar: if you don't relish waiting over an hour in line for your visa, you can pay $20-$25 to one of the men waiting around. They will take your passport and the visa fee and by-pass the line. It is a little disconcerting to let your passports out of your sight but they are in the secure area and it is a common practice. You are out in about 10 minutes.

The check in at Komaneka was quick and efficient. The staff here are all very friendly and eager to please.

The grounds are beautifully maintained.

We had booked a pool villa as last time. These rooms are lovely and excellent value for money in our opinion. We had a covered area outside with a stocked mini bar, fruit and cookies as well as a day bed. There was a small plunge pool over looking a lush ravine and further on some rice paddies. There were two comfortable deck beds.

The suite itself has a large bedroom overlooking the deck. There is a large closet area and then a very large bathroom surrounded by windows overlooking a fish pond.

The breakfast is included in the room rate and is excellent.

Komaneka has three other properties. We had a great 12 course Mebigung dinner at Komaneka at Tangayuda which was fabulous. We also visited the property at Bisma which is beautiful. However, we prefer the Monkey Forest property as it is an oasis right in the heart of everything. There are great shops and restaurants right outside the door and yet it is very quiet at the hotel.

We have done a fair bit of travelling and this has to be one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at.

Absolutely fantastic place. Just off the Monkey Forrest road (one of three main streets in Ubud) is this precious place. Out of noise and heat of Ubud just after entering the Komaneka Monkey Forrest you feel as in a hideaway.
The apartments are set in a wonderful and quiet garden. The staff is the best staff I have ever met - the attitude is "nothing is a problem"! My baby daughter was sick during our trip to Ubud and the hotel has done absolutely everything to help us - at no cost!
The apartments are beautiful - we stayed in the one with a terrace - a corner apartment. We could enjoy a quiet view on the rice fields. In our room upon arrival the bath was filled with water and flowers so that we could take a "Bali style" bath. The apartment was not big, but beautifully furnished. Our baby had a baby crib to use with a private mosquito net:)
Breakfasts were very good - a big variety a'la carte - great was the Bali breakfast.
The pool has a beautiful view and is also very quiet.
We had a great time - thank you!

Room Tip: Get the "deluxe room" with a rice field view - beautiful view and cheaper than the suites.

Beautiful little resort with all the extras included and in the perfect location. We booked a villa with private pool (something I've had on my bucket list for a while) and I was amazed at how picture perfect it was!

There was a covered pavilion with a daybed, mini-bar along with fresh fruit and cookies delivered daily, and table & chairs (and even a small bottle of mosquito spray that was refilled daily). Next to this is the beautiful private plunge pool (infinity style) with a view of the jungle with a wooden deck and 2 lounge chairs with comfy cushions and a small table to hold drinks, etc. the bedroom window/sliding doors looked out into the jungle and led directly to the wooden deck. The room had not 1 but 2 large umbrellas, all the bath products: toothbrush & paste, razor & shave cream, shampoo AND separate conditioner - not that all in one crap, massage oil, bath oil and salts, soaps, shower gel, Q-tips, comb, hair dryer, oh and a bowl of rose petals for the HUGE marble in-ground bathtub that I sadly didn't get around to trying. His and hers rubber flip flops on a shelf in the bathroom. There is a large shower area (big enough for 2 people with plenty of extra room) with a rainfall shower head. Another wonderful surprise was the koi pond surrounded by river stones directly outside the floor to ceiling bathroom window. Middle/connecting area of room had wardrobe closet with safe, robes and ample hangers (rare to find enough hangers in a hotel closet), a bench/luggage holder with 6 small drawers, a full length mirror, and for those who want to torture themselves - a bathroom scale. The bedroom had a small flat screen tv, a radio/stereo, small desk table with chair, and a beautiful large bed with white curtains that could be tied back at each of 4 corners. 2 lite cotton nightshirts were left for us on the bed each evening. On the bed stand were a pile of beautiful photo books on Bali. There was a heart made from rose petals on the bed the day we arrived as well as a vase with Calla lilies on the bedroom desk and a large flower arrangement on the table outside the room.

Only negative was the A/C wasn't very strong but we didn't mention it until the day before we left (so our own fault on that) They fixed it somewhat but it never got chilly in the room (though it was never hot in the room - we just like it chilly when we sleep). Small issue really considering how wonderful everything about this place is!

Free breakfast either in your room or at the open air restaurant with a surprising number of choices (French toast was lovely) including Balinese offerings, fresh fruit juices, French press coffee, fresh fruit, etc. The breakfast ran from 0700-1100 (instead of the usual 2-3 hours most hotels give you). Then there was a complimentary daily tea from 3pm - 6pm with appetizers at the pool. Dinner at the restaurant was inexpensive and good enough, but recommend getting out and walking to one of the many amazing restaurants nearby.

Location is perfect, its right in the middle of everything and yet until you leave the property it feels wonderfully secluded (best of both worlds)! They don't mention it when you book your room but will usually drive you to any of the nearby restaurants or shops for free - you just catch a cab back to the hotel. Staff was very friendly and always had a smile. They were happy to teach us key phrases in Balinese (which earned us grateful smiles from the locals and even made those asking if we wanted a massage or a taxi briefly stop trying to sell to something to us and instead to laugh and greet us back). Always cold bottles of water available for free at the front desk if you ask. Laundry service was crazy cheap.

One of the all time best experiences and most amazing room I've ever booked. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would! If you get the chance to stay here be aware that the private pool villa is worth every penny (and even better was under $300 per night when we booked)!

This resort really lives up to its 5 star standard. Impeccable service and really large and beautiful rooms. We booked the deluxe room which faces the paddy field (Room 202). We enjoyed our two nights there and wished we had stayed longer. Breakfast was delicious and the staff are very polite and helpful. I can't find anything to fault this amazing property. Location is fantastic on Monkey Forest Street which is packed with really nice cafes, boutiques and art shops. We loved the quaintness of Ubud and the quieter lifestyle. An oasis of relaxation.

Room Tip: Ubud is best travelled by renting a scooter. It was a very good experience and we were able to explo...

A beautiful little hotel with fantastic staff and service. We particularly enjoyed a traditional balinese massage at the spa and chilling by the infinity pool that overlooked a little valley.

The location is great - about ten minutes walk from the centre of Ubud, on a street with plenty of restaurants and bars. A great base from which to explore Ubud and the surrounding area.
