“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

I just spent the first half of my honeymoon here this July. This place was everything we could have asked for (pool villa). The place is just as beautiful as the professional photos here make it out to be---probably the prettiest hotel I have ever stayed at. My wife just loved this place. Some comments:

(1) The property itself was beautiful and the views from our place were breathtaking. It is VERY peaceful, which is strange considering how crazy Ubud itself can be.

(2) Food (breakfast) is fantastic and there are even more fantastic (and virtually free) restaurants really close by (Warung Palung Kelepa, Naughty Nuri's). Our breakfast was included every day and I highly recommend this option because it is both delicious and quite expensive if not included.

(3) The staff learns your name and is very, very warm and friendly. This was true of much of Bali. They really know what they are doing in terms of service.

(4) Free shuttle was key, although a little limiting because it only ran once an hour.

(5) Be careful of staying here if you are not physically able to climb and descend stairs that are often slippery. It is a little treacherous and a fall might cause very serious injury.

(6) The rooms themselves are a little dated, but this is OK if you are expecting it. It gets quite humid in the rooms and there is no good way to counteract this. The bed itself is surprisingly uncomfortable. Some bugs and lizards etc. get into the room. In eight nights we saw one huge roach, and there was frog or gecko dung left inside each day but we never saw him.

Overall the staff and views make up for any downsides this place had by a longshot. It was the perfect place to spend our honeymoon.

My partner and I booked here with our travel agent expecting a spectacular honeymoon. We were severely disappointed. It started when they forgot to pick us up at the airport. So we caught a cab to Ubud with the loveliest cab driver who was made to wait around for us by the hotel. They made us wait around for them too - the staff had a very high opinion of themselves. To add insult to disappointment they then placed us in room 1, the room next to reception with no privacy explaining they were fully booked. We weren't feeling very special at all at this point and our stay only got worse. Our bed was two singles pushed together with a bad join. And our tv remote was broken - my partner had to make a contraption to fix it. We made every effort to leave the hotel when we could to avoid the negative vibes and fake/ pretentious staff. We were also hit up on our first nite for a special wedding costume treat (in one of the staff's homes) so they could celebrate our wedding by overcharging us for this traditional ceremony that in our previous experience would have been offered to us out of genuine friendship (we are friendly, caring people). Bizarre! We have tried to process the odd vibe about this place for a month now and are no closer to a solution. Some staff were really nice, but the managerial ones spoiled it for everyone. We actually resent this place for making us feel uncomfortable on our honeymoon. Bad form Pita Maha especially when you charge guests $300+ nite for a villa.

Room Tip: Stay in a pool villa for the best views or a garden villa furtherest from reception.

Beautiful accommodation that was romantic, private and relaxing. Although the hotel is on a hill there are a number of exceptional resteraunts within a minutes walking distance. The breakfast was excellent with an option of it being delivered to your room. The hotel has a beauty spa which is professional, the free afternoon tea provided in the common area was delightful & relaxing. The hotel offered a shuttle to the main street which runs regularly which is also free. We enjoyed every moment of staying in this beautiful hotel and the next time we visit Ubud we would love to be able to stay in the Pita Maha again.

Room Tip: Request a room with a plunge pool!

Quite amazing to think Pita Maha is so close to the main centre of Ubud, but it seems like a million miles away from any-one. The beautiful views from anywhere in the resort and the quietness make you feel you are the only souls around.
Villas are huge and although a little dated, spotlessly clean. We loved the outdoor shower and our gorgeous plunge pool. Food in the restaurant was a bit hit and miss, but as there are endless choices nearby didn't matter. Didn't think the steps were too much of an issue and if you felt a bit lazy you can always go the long way where there is few steps.
I have stayed at Kuppu Kuppu Barong previously, a much more expensive resort than Pita Maha, but there is no comparison, would return to Pita Maha in a flash.

Room Tip: Rooms with plunge pool defintiely worth the extra cost.

My wife and I stayed at the Pita Maha Ubud for 13 nights.... It was GREAT... the staff and management were all wonderful people. We had booked a Garden Pool Villa and were upgraded to a Garden Villa no extra charge .. It had it's own swimming pool, plus, plus, plus. Check their Web site, it's all true.WE had free breakfast delivered very morning and had a wonderful refreshing time.. We chose the location as it was very quiet and close to the two Zoos and bird park. The only problem we had was our fridge was not as cold as we expected... They promptly sent a repair man but it did not improve by much.... Guess what, we had ice delivered to our room at least 3 times per day and no one moaned or complained to us ... they were very happy to give us great service.. I highly recommend them...22/06/2012 Art& Julie

We loved the place and have sent many others there who shared the same experience. Quiet resort with massive private villas - couldn't have asked for more!
