“A Perfect Ten!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

I have seen this performance three times and I'm 'wow-ed' every time. It is a production that electrifies. The costuming is brilliant and the performers are amazing. Don't miss this!

“Interesting traditional performance of a Balinese myth”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

This is one of the many musical performances that can be watched in Ubud's evenings. The price of the ticket is around 8 USD and it can be purchased from the many local people selling them in the street near the Tourist Information Centre in Ubud main intersection (Palace intersection).

The difference of this performance with the others is that there are not musical instruments: all the music as played "a capella" by a "chorus" of 60-80 men who are most of the time sitting in the floor, around the actors (sometimes they stand up and are part of the performance as well). I do not understand the reviews complaining about these guys: they make a neat job and flawless, sometimes adding a great dramatical strength to the scene.

Before the performance, they give you a paper with an explanation of the story (it is an old balinese myth about a prince, a princess, and a lot of mythical monsters). After reading it, the argument can be followed somehow (most of the balinese traditional dancing is speech-less, and the only few times they speak is in Balinese language, so ... ).

After the main performance there is a short dancing in the fire by a guy who kicks red-hot embers with the naked feet. So painful!!

“A dream come true”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

I have been wanting to experience the Kecak Fire & Trance Dance of Bali for years and it was truly a dream come true. The rhythms are hypnotic and the intensity of the ritual very satisfying. I hope you have a chance to experience it someday.

“Mesmerising”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

Wow, this is a real experience. It is not traditional dancing, there is no music but you will be entertained. The chanting men create the sound and the beautiful Balinese ladies dance so elegantly. Suggest you read the printed sheet so that you you don't get totally lost in the story. Then the show finishes with the dancing horse (man) on the burning coconut husks - wonderful. We arrived about 15 minutes before the show started and easily got a front row seat.
