Thanks to Jan, one of the owners of this jewel spot in the heart of Ubud, Bali, arranging our 3night stays altogether: 5adults, 2kids, & 1baby. A bit hard firstly to find since no clear signboard, better provide gps coordinates or clearer map on its website. Though, strange and spooky for someone not used to living in the middle of village, finally my family enjoy the sounds of nature, specifically lizard (locally known as "tokek").

We live in Indonesia and always travel with our two small children under 5 and had paid for 5 nights. We booked a family room and were surprised that we were given a horrible room next to the bar where the dust, and grime fell off from the roof and onto the bed. We insisted on changing rooms as our daughter had a rare asthma attack which the staff all heard because of all our coughing. The bathroom was also wet and dingy. Despite the staff saying that the family rooms were the same price, the manager tried to give us a hefty changing room charge which we refused to pay. The manager pretends to be helpful and says he can get us local prices (we live in Indonesia so this is quite normal) actually he charges ridiculous prices but refuses to tell you them until you leave! Very rarely had any hot water. Barking dogs were a pain. Lovely view of a rice field.
The staff such as Wyan, Ipong and all the girls were really lovely and went out of their way to be helpful and made our stay great when not dealing with the manager. I would hire their staff any day.

Very charming hotel with friendly and helpfull staff. Free coffee, tea and wifi.
First I stayed in the little two storey house (room number 9), which is very very charming, with a nice view on a small rice terrace. Because of the bamboo walls, the roosters sounded quite close... So I moved to a brick walled room. Less charming, but very nicely decorated.

I stayed at In Da Lodge months ago for about 3 weeks. I was traveling by myself and found the experience to be wonderful. Ipong, and Wayan were both very helpful and kind, always there with a big welcoming smile. Ipong took me on tours and shopping excursions, bargaining on my behalf and getting discounts that were jaw dropping. I think i saved what the room cost me on these trips. Wayan managed the place with an ease and happy smile that was always nice to witness. The cleaning girls are shy but do a lovely job, my towel sculptures changed daily and put a smile on my face

I'm not a fan or noodles for breakfast so In Da Lodge took me to the market to get a combination of fruits which they kindly made into a rainbow colored platter for me every morning. Did I mention they also serve a great cup of coffee?

The rooms were very, very big and the beds comfortable. The view on the top floor is lovely, the gardens perfect, and the place clean and tucked away in a quit lane way. It's very close to all the action of Ubud, only two blocks from Monkey Forrest Road and the Palace.

Downsides, the doubles upstairs can be a little noisy if you have uncaring neighbors as the roof is only separated by woven mat (as is the case with many Bali traditional houses). But this is only true for the two rooms directly above the main bar area.

Thank you for making my trip sooo enjoyable!

Room Tip: Stay in the small villa at next to the main bar if your a couple- it's picture perfect. OR villa...

We had booked a superior room (upstairs) at In Da Lodge after reading all the positive reviews, but were very disappointed upon arrival. So much so that we checked out early. Overall, the quality of stay for the price you pay is definitely not worth it - there are much better (and cleaner!) places in central Ubud for less!

Here are just a few points to keep in mind when considering staying here:

Pro:
* Quiet backroad and lovely entrance
* Nice views from balcony
* Superior room is really big

Con:
* Dirty: feces on the bed, bedsheets had a moldy smell, no room cleaning during our stay...
* The bathroom needs some serious renovation: terrible smell coming out of the toilet, the shower floor is covered with small rocks which makes thorough cleaning impossible, shower floods into the bedroom, there's no wash bassin in the bathroom so you have to use the one in the "kitchen".
* No mosquito net, which would have been very welcome given the animal feces coming from the roof.
* Lighting in the room is terrible
* Breakfast is extremely limited (toast, eggs and awful jam) and tea/coffee are served in dirty cups.
* No juice in the bar.
* (Friendly) management is hardly present, staff is friendly but their English does not go beyond the very basics and seems to have little experience in the hospitality industry.

Room Tip: Don't take the rooms upstairs, despite the view.
