We stayed in June for 3 nights. The villa was very nice, spacious, comfortable and the pool excellent although rather too deep at 1.8m and no shallow end. Having arrived late at night we didn't appreciate the setting until the next morning. Breakfast is taken in the terrace restaurant and not the usual buffet, A la carte and extensive selection. There is no start or finish time to breakfast so you take it at your leisure. A very refreshing change to the standard buffet.

We used the spa. The treatment room had views of the river valley , it was quite spectacular. The prices were reasonable for a hotel of this standard.

We took a tour which was organised by the hotel, reasonably priced and a very pleasant driver and knowledgable guide. It was meant to be a 5 hour tour after which they charged you by the hour but because of local traffic you could not see everything in the itinerary and get back in time.

Dinner was at the riverside Swept Away restaurant. A beautiful setting and extra special if you had the 100 candlelit dinner. The food was very well prepared by the local Balinese chef.

Apart from the excellent standard and facilities at the Samaya the top selling point is the service here from all the staff. From the management team to the restaurant staff and butlers. Everyone knows your name and the service we received was some of the most personalised, efficient and welcoming we have encountered in our travels around the world. I could not be complimentary enough, so we shall return when we are next in Bali. Thank you Samaya!

There is not enough room here to say all the wonderful things about Samaya. I have never been so well looked after in my life - the staff and amenities are perfection, especially the hotel shuttle which will drop you in Ubud anytime. The city is very warm and humid, so staying a little bit out of the city was the perfect retreat to come back to after exploring (the location on the river makes it quite a bit cooler). The staff knew our names from our first day and went above and beyond to make our trip exceptional. Every single staff member was so friendly, eager to help with whatever we needed, and seemed genuinely concerned that we enjoyed our time both at their property and in Ubud. Our breakfast was included and it was phenomenal. There were so many options, including both delicious western style and traditional Indonesian fare. I find buffets really impersonal (and plentiful in Bali) - there are no buffets here. Every dish was prepared to order and delicious. We also ate dinner at the hotel restaurant on many occasions and it was equally delicious. We visited other hotels during our time there (for spa services and as we moved around the island). Nothing compared to this amazing and majestic place. Thank you to everyone at the Samaya for making our trip perfection! When we return to Ubud, we will be staying here.

Room Tip: We stayed at a villa close to the river, which is also where the dinner restaurant, spa and collecti...

The Samaya is by far the best luxury accommodation ive stayed in. the villas are properly equipped, jacuzzi, big flat screen TV, comfortable beds. what makes Samaya stand out is the level of detail that the staff gives you, everywhere i went, they address me by my name, i get my daily newspapers custom printed with my name, breakfast and afternoon tea was excellent and the staff are extremely friendly & helpful. the views and are wonderful as well, padi fields views from the restaurant and river view by another restaurant way down below of the property. i really really do feel pampered. ive planned our honeymoon properly well and The Samaya definitely contributed into making my honey moon perfect! i'll definitely pick Samaya the next time i go to heavenly Bali

My wife recently returned from a 3 night stay at the Samaya for our 10year wedding anniversary. I can't help but give a 5 star review and would give more if possible. We have travelled the world and stayed in numerous 5 star resorts/hotels in Europe and North America. Our experience at the Samaya tops any other experience we have received previously which is a great credit for this property.
1) Firstly the property. The resort is absolutely wonderful. It is small and intimate. There are approx 18 villas set on a very steeply sloped block of land running down to a river. At the river is Swept Away where you can enjoy first quality food at reasonable prices backed up by superior service. Trust me, if relaxing is your thing, there is no need to eat outside the property based on the food quality. The resort also offers a number of romantic dinner options set on the river with your own private area or in your pool side cabana located in your villa. Near the entrance higher up onthe land is Scerene where most have their breakfast and has a wonderful rice paddy views. Gardens are impeccable. The villas themselves are very private and good size. The grounds of your own private villa feature a generous sized pool and private cabana which is perfect to relax and spend time reflecting, reading or eating a meal - the resort offers the option to have breakfast delivered.
2) Secondly to staff and service. We have experienced similar quality properties in the past howver what sets this experience apart was the staff. Many have mentioned this in previous reviews and I agree 100%, the staff are the real gems. It is something you ned to experience yourself to understand. The staff don't know the meaning of no, nothing is a problems and all the time maintaining genuine smiles. The staff make you feel like family and make every effort to interact personally everyday addressing you by your name. All the staff are the same from front desk, management, landscapers and staff who work with food. As mentioned above we have travelled to North America for the last 5yrs, they are very service orientated however don't come close to the staff at the Samaya who offer genuine personal service. My wife had so many beautiful experiences with the staff and took took photos with some. We would love to credit some induviduals (in no particular order and sorry if some names are mis-spelt)
- Ningshi: Front office manager who bent over backwards to do everything in her power to make this a beautiful experience and memory. She organised our special wedding anniversay suprise dinner and also wonderful suprise cake.
- Tirta: Head Butler who is a true professional and lovely person. He takes time to know the clients and takes a genuine interest in their lives. His service is second to none.
- Eka: staff member at swept away. She is a delight with very engaging smile and excellent service ethic. I believe she is new, the HR or recruiting Dept are doing something right given she seems to fit right in.
- Gede and Wayane - Operations and General Managers. They make an effort to interact with the guest and also go over and above to accomdate your requests. Again they don't know the meaning of no. These guys are also just nice people, very easy to chat to and engage.
- Wawan - Housekeeping. Also looked after us even when we felt we were a burden he always turned up with a huge smile.
- Pasek - working at Swept away. Very attentive to service without being overbearing. All round nice guy.
- Eddy - butler - like Wawan above nothing was a hassle, we loved seeing his smiling face each day.
- Mahindra - manager at Swept Away. Very good at his job and very personable. Had a long chat with him. He took the time to explain some cultural aspects and ways of life on Bali. A true gem.

All in all hope this helps perspective guests. We looked at many reviews on Trip Advisor before booking. While this is not the cheapest option, if you are hestitating over the difference of a few hundred dollars, do yourself a favour and spend the little extra. You spent the money gettingto Bali and have saved for your break (many times these being too few and far between), why risk it. If you are staying in Ubud this should be on the top of your list. Trust me you will leave absolutely impressed and palnning your next stay in the Samaya.

Room Tip: All villas appear the same size. We stayed in villa 106 with rice paddy views which was very special...

I cannot rate this beautiful property too highly! From the moment we were greeted with frangipani garlands we felt that our every whim had already been anticipated. We stayed for 3 nights in a hillside pool villa. The room was lovely, clean and with the MOST comfortable, huge bed. Our pool and cabana were fabulous, just the place to relax. We ate at the restaurant a couple of times and the standard of the food was excellent. The hotel offers lifts into Ubud and back, which gives you the opportunity to go out in the evening. The view of the jungle and paddy fields from the breakfast terrace is stunning. The staff were brilliant - very friendly and very professional. This place is luxury at its best!

Beautiful setting along a river valley, with the resort situated along a fairly steep bank downto the river, which made for a very cool place.
We loved sitting in the bale in our villa (or at the restaurant) listening to the river.
Views from top of the lobby and breakfast restaurant of the rice fields were amazing.

Was an incredibly peaceful place to spend time. Our three days was not enough, and we wished we had spent more time here and less in Seminyak.

Walking through the neighboring village and eating the sate and bakso ayam was a treat.

Staff are amazing and very friendly, even by Bali 5 star standards. There are 19 villas and more than 100 staff.

The food was really good too.

We will go back.
