“Wouldn't hesitate to return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Stayed 4 nights, really enjoyable. The villas are very private, quiet and relaxing. The food at Swept Away restaurant was excellent, as was the breakfast at Scene.

The location is wonderful, outside the bustle of Ubud, but close enough to get in via free shuttle if you wish. We had a great walk through the rice paddies with one of the staff.

The spa was excellent as well.

Everybody was very friendly.

Room Tip: I don't think you'd go wrong with any room.

My partner and I chose to stay at Samaya on the Taste of Bali and stayed 3 nights in Ubud and 4 in Seminyak.

We both work in hospitality and can be hard to please... The Samaya Ubud exceeded our expectations and then some.

Our greeting at the airport was warm, friendly and after our trip we were anxious to get to Ubud... Once we arrived we were blown away with the greeting, the room show and our villa itself. The villa was everything and more.

We dined at the Swept away twice for dinner and the food was amazing, we tried both the western and indonesian and couldn't fault any - some of the best meals we had were here.

We had 2 spa treatments and the girls were lovely, the treatment was relaxing.

A highlight was the cooking tour with Ketut, whilst there are many cooking class options you can do in Ubud and we thought about doing them. We chose to do the Samaya Cooking Class and we were not disappointed, it helped maybe that no one else had chosen to do the class and it was like our own private tutorial with Ketut! A market tour and then a ridiculous 6 courses later we rolled out of there happy and with desire to cook more indonesian.

We found the transfer service really helpful and even though Samaya is a little away from "downtown ubud" it ' impact our stay.

A review of Samaya Ubud would not be complete without mentioning the staff. Every single staff member we came across knew our names, they were friendly, helpful and gave us a wonderful greeting to Balinese Hospitality.

This was without a doubt the best part of our holiday and we hope to return to Samaya Ubud again it was just so damn good!

Room Tip: Don't get too caught up with what is the "best" - the rooms are fantastic and encourag...

We have booked the hotel based on the reviews in TA. It was really a wonderful relax and enjoyment in UBUD, BALI. We booked the pick up service from the Hotel and it was very smooth and efficient. Cool towels and snacks in the car, driver speaks good English and helpful. Actually we hired him for the day trip and transport from Samaya Ubud to Samaya Bali in Seminyak because he charges reasonably and not pushing sales to us.
Great location, especially we booked the villa near the river, beautiful scene, spacious villa, jacuzzi, in-door shower, comfortable bed, swiming pool, etc. all are great.
The breakfast near the lobby or in villa are all very nice, breakfast untill 2pm.
Dinner in the Swept Away restaurant is yummy, nice location overlooking the river.
Service is excellent from check-in through check-out, all the staff are very polite, friendly, helpful. The GM, F&B Manger, all greeting you almost every time at breakfast or dinner.
Top standards of service. Anything you want just make a phonecall and they come immediately.
Best relaxation and very pleasant experience in BALI.

Room Tip: Villa near the river is much better.

This was by far one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. The level of service that I received was second to none. The location of the property and my hillside room views of the rice paddy across the river was stunning. The food was absolutely delicious (especially the seafood barbecue)..... The spa...incredible. I could go on and on. Every detail was carefully thought out in advance and delivered seamlessly by the staff. I can't thank them enough for the wonderful hospitality they showed me during my visit. This was a special trip to celebrate my 50th birthday and the hotel staff certainly went out of their way to assure that this was a trip of a lifetime for me!
Thank you so much to all of you at the hotel. I miss you all very much.

Room Tip: I was in room 105, which was a hillside location. I had great views, privacy, and it was convenient...

We had a most enjoyable stay with our young kids at The Samaya Ubud for 3 nights followed by another 2 nights at The Samaya Seminyak .

The best part of the stay was the warm and unpretentious service. Practically everyone we met at the resort seem genuinely nice and friendly. It makes you feel like you are visiting a small village, rather than a corporatized commercial environment. Most of the staff are local folks living nearby.

The villa hotel's setting captures the essence of Ubud in a very special way. We chose to have breakfasts every day at the Scene restaurant overlooking expansive views of rice terraces and had afternoon tea at the Swept Away restaurant by the Agung River, where local kids often swim naked and play in the shallow parts. By the side of the path leading to the Swept Away restaurant is a stone spout where cool fresh holy spring water gushes. Some local people would come to collect the holy water. One morning, we heard loud Balinese music from our villa and found out that there was a religious ceremony being held near the river. Our daily buggy ride to the river side was a thrilling experience over steep terrain with very sharp turns.

The daily afternoon tea set served on tiered trays was very good and surprisingly slightly more refined than the similar tea served in The Samaya Seminyak. The Indonesian food we had from the room service menu was also quite good.

I thought I should point out that The Samaya Ubud is not quite super designer sophistication. The common areas and the villa are all nice and pleasant. More often than not, the natural surroundings such as the rice terrace and the Agung River were used to maximum advantage to create ambience rather than with expensive design elements and furnishings. My points of comparison are the Jaya Ibrahim designed Capella Hotel, Sentosa, Singapore and the St Regis at Nusa Dua. Rooms are big and bathrooms are large with lots of amenities like a large jacuzzi tub. However it is in the details you can see why this is not quite a design hotel. The lighting in the villas needs improvements. As many have said, there is insufficient lighting at the sitting area. Also, the switches are quite obscure and I could only turn off the general lights from the right side of the bed rather than from a general switch near the door, which makes it a little inconvenient when you are rushing out. Furnishings are relatively simple so the villa itself does not exude a very luxurious ambience. It's definitely more than comfortable however.

The breakfasts are generally nice but not as good as that served at the Breeze restaurant in its Seminyak sister property. The mie goreng was particularly disappointing while the equivalent breakfast dish at The Samaya Seminyak was excellent and almost a meal on its own. We had a Western 3 course ala carte meal at the Swept Away restaurant. And while it was good, it was not at the same level of refinement as the Kayuputi restaurant at the St Regis. Service was very good.

Other than a tiny pool near the spa, there are no common pools on this property, perhaps due to its size.

Our family has a very nice stay overall and highly recommend it if you are looking for unpretentious service and comfortable, peaceful surroundings for rest and relaxation.

We had stayed for three days and 2 nights in ubud area with our family. His ministry was very good, the atmosphere was one with nature, staff are friendly. We are only one-way road to Ubud area using a private tour.

I could not fault my stay I enjoyed every minute of it. I went to recharge and relax on my own. Every member of staff could not have done enough to help me enjoy my time there. The villa was perfect the afternoon teas wonderful and willing to serve it in the villa garden. The breakfast were excellent over looking rice fields. I will definitely go again.
