“Beautiful Villas and Wonderful Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014

We stayed in the Timor Villa -- it was beautiful and very peaceful. The attentive staff were friendly and helpful. Located slightly out of Ubud, you'll need to take taxis in and out of town, but the staff happily arranged everything for us and made excellent recommendations for restaurants.

Room Tip: Timor Villa was beautifully appointed and located away from main areas, so very peaceful.

My wife and I stayed at the Bamboo Villa for 2 nights. There is a private infinity pool where excess water falls into a lower terrace where the spa is. The Bale/patio was where we had our breakfasts and a candle light dinner. The shower and toilet are outdoor.

The property is small, located in a quaint village north of Ubud. The owners, one from Spain and the other from the Netherlands, as I was told, were creative to utilise the land to build 7 stunning villas. The drive to Ubud central takes about 5 minutes but always cost IDR 50,000.

The villas 15 staff are all Balinese except 1 I think. Most are from Ubud too. Our butler is even from the village where the Purist is in. They were extremely attentive to our needs. There is turn down service each evening. During our stay, 5 other villages were occupied but we felt like all attention was given to us. We didn't bump into a single other guest during our stay. All these thanks to a low guest-to-staff ratio.

The only downside with the Bamboo Village is that, next to is somebody's house/farm. During the day, you will hear children playing and the occasional chatter from the neighbours.

It was our first time to Bali so we do not have any basis for comparison with other villas in the area. But if you're looking for a peaceful and quiet visit to Ubud (which all visits to Ubud should be for), then it is a recommended place to stay.

Room Tip: I would try either the Garden Villa or Hill Villa should I come here again.

We loved every bit of it!!
Everything was perfect, service was impeccable, every little details was taken care.
The location is a bit far away from Ubud center and kind of hidden, that may be also the beauty of it! We will definitely come back here.

Room Tip: River villa has amazing decor but the hill was the best for us

If you want to spoil yourself for a memorable trip to Bali, then by all means choose The Purist. It's style, sophistication and butler service were all 5 star. The grounds are covered in artifacts from all over the Indonesian archipelago that were hand picked by the owners. I loved my open air shower and peaceful deck that looked out to the jungle. Amazing top level service around the clock - it was a true gem. The food was also amazing. I would highly recommend this piece of heaven to all.

After a long laborious flight from California, this place was the perfect spot to relax. It had all the amenities to spoil yourself (including your own private pool and patio if you chose the correct villa), and the perfect staff. The staff including the butler were amazing and did everything to make you feel like royalty. The driver who picked us up waited for 2 hours and was very nice (since the immigration line is very long - it is slow on purpose since you can pay extra to skip the line, just watch out on extra fees at the airport!). He kept a smile and even apologized on behalf of the airport :)

Every morning, they serve breakfast (anything you want) on your patio. They come in advance and prepare your table, and the food is delicious. The breakfast caters to both local food or the American breakfast (continental or big breakfast with eggs, bacon, etc). The coffee in Bali is really good! They also have their own main pool which is also nice, and a driver at your service if you need it. We hired our own driver from another recommendation which turned out a bit cheaper.

The amenities are very nice and we also did not notice too many bugs since they kept insect repellent coils lit outside on the patio and near the bathroom. Our villa was 2 stories with a master bedroom in the upstairs and another bedroom downstairs. The bathroom shower was indoor/outdoor which was really nice. And, the private pool included a cabana which was really relaxing. The main thing was that it was really quiet the whole time and you can easily get lost in the tropical jungle atmosphere especially after any long trips or the daily excursions. I highly recommend this spot for any travelers (couples, families, etc).

Room Tip: Ask for the 2 bedroom villa (2 stories). There may be only one available on the property.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2014

We stayed at the bamboo villa for five nights in May. The villa and surrounds are beautiful. The staff were also very polite and helpful. I would love to give the Purist five stars but what lets it down is no fault of the owners. There is construction occurring next door - right next to the bamboo villa. From the hours of 6.30am to 8pm we heard power tools, hammering and the conversations of the workers. I had a one hour massage and although the therapist was amazing I couldn't relax due to the noise. We mentioned the noise to one of the staff on the second day and they said it should stop in the afternoon which it didn't. By the fourth day I was ready to move hotels, so my husband mentioned the noise again to the manager who promptly moved us to another villa. In my opinion the bamboo villa shouldn't be rented out until the construction is complete - as it's a lot of money to pay when you are unable to unwind due to the noise.

Absolutely loved my stay here. Tucked away down a dirt track outside ubud (just about walkable) but I would suggest not. Only a small amount of rooms (8 I think) so never feels busy. Staff are friendly and amazingly helpful. I cannot speak highly enough of the team there.
