“Very cute place in the center of town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2010

Beautiful garden, swimming pool, free breakfast, great Wifi--amazing! Right in the center of town as well, which is convenient. Rooms are nicer than at other local guesthouses I saw/stayed at. Mine has a four poster bed and filled with windows. Only downside is that it's a little loud so don't count on sleeping in after 8 or so.

Would recommend!

There are many good hotels in Ubud - and this one is fine.
Breakfast is included and there is a very good swimming pool set in nice gardens. Internet access is close by but is more expensive than internet cafes.
The staff are friendly and helpful.
However some of the ground floor (and below) rooms are a little dark so see afew rooms before selecting. The hotel can be full with restricted choice of rooms especially at the 'standard' price point

  • Liked — The swimming pool
  • Disliked — Some rooms rather dark and gloomy

When I think of Gayatri II, I dream of wallowing in the beautiful inifinity pool that seems to stretch right out into the surrounding rice fields, the masses of colour in the gardens and the gorgeous people who run the place. It is located in one of the little lanes off Monkey Forest Road - very central. Although the the rooms are all fairly boring from an interior design point of view, they are clean, spacious with wonderful Balinese-style patios. As they were fully booked, we stayed in the boss's apartment for the first few nights at a ridiculously reduced rate (about 25 euros ). It was a delightful first-floor apartment full of Hindu paintings, Balinese daggers and antique furniture - the bed was so antique that the mattress collapsed through the frame on the first night night and my partner and I ended up in a heap on the floor - all good holiday fun! The next day we told the staff and they were gutted and terribly embarrassed. They bent over backwards to make amends, which was not necessary, and the bed was repared immediately - as I said gorgeous people. Breakfast is available at their restaurant on Monkey Forest Road -about a five-minute-walk away - the fruit salad was really good, the rest the usual fare - a choice of waffles, toast, pancake, etc. Gayaytri is worth it just for the pool alone - set amidst gloriously lush rice fields, the whole atmosphere is calm and relaxing - as I said in the title - serenely Balinese!

We stayed in one of the double rooms high up and our view looked over the pool and the rice fields. I think it was 250000 but we could not afford this and we managed to get it for 220000 after some pleading. Basic but clean room with a fan. Breakfast was good too in the nearby restaurant . The pool was just stunning and very peaceful and quiet. The bungalows are very central although you still feel like you are in a very rural location and a 10 min walk to the monkey forest entrance. The staff were also extremely helpful and kind!
Highly recommend accomadion at a good price!

We were first shown Rp350k rooms and that was beyond our budget. When the proprietress heard this, she promptly showed us rooms at Rp175k. This included breakfast - tea/coffee, toast, eggs and a fruit plate at the Gayatri Restaurant - it's less than a 5 minute walk away. We had dinner here and the food was good and cheap - must try the gado-gado.
The room was quite airy and clean. Best of all, the (cold) shower gushed. Most guest house showers are rather mean with the water and this really irks me! No mosquitoes at night & if you're lucky you will be serenaded to sleep by geckos and a bunch of guys playing guitar and singing at a small gazebo next door. There's also a room equipped with computers and internet.
Gayatri is easily located off Monkey Forest Road - lane on the left just after the soccer field on your right. Look for Sekolah Dasar (primary school) and turn left just after. You will pass some stalls then a Restaurant Alit - good, cheap food and nice ambiance. They were in the midst of renovations when we were there.
All in all, the stay was pleasant. The staff was polite and helpful and I would definitely recommend this as one of the nicer middle budget places.
