“Sshhh...its the best kept secret in Ubud!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2011

We have just returned from 6 nights stay in Villa di Abing and it totally exceeded our expectations! As other reviews have stated, the villa is beautifully designed and decorated with an emphasis on the feeling of space - it's even better than the website photos and great value for money.
Only 5 minutes walk to the shops and restaurants of Ubud (Kafe Batan Waru is our fave), and in a quiet residential area, the villa is a serene escape. The staff are kind, gentle and welcoming, breakfasts were delicious and the villa and grounds were kept fastidiously clean.
The villa has good wifi coverage and we were given a mobile phone to contact staff if needed or to make local calls which was quite handy.
We highly recommend a stay at Villa di Abing and we will be returning next year.

I could not wait to get to Ubud and to Villa di Abing and I was not disappointed by either. I completely fell in love with the little thriving town of Ubud which is a mecca for artists (The Balinese really are so artistic and creative). I also loved my time at Villa di Abing. We rented the whole of this very private villa which consists of three separate bedrooms, all different levels but equally all nice. Our daughters who had been sharing up to this point in the holiday were thrilled to get their own rooms and bathrooms (and wow!... what bathrooms they were) .The wow factor - bathrooms - are outside and completely private, stocked with organic aromatherapy products. The staff are friendly, efficient and did little touches i.e burning wonderfully smelling incense each evening plus providing you with a mobile phone if you get stuck for anything while out in Ubud. The pool is small but adequate and set in a lovely garden, all overlooking a lush jungle. What I liked the most was, that the staff came in for the mornings to cook breakfast and clean, then by 1 pm they departed and the place was completely yours . If you want to eat at the villa, you can request a meal to be cooked or down the end of the road is Bali Buddha (very trendy, organic, hip place to eat lunch) and whatever you do, go to Nomad for dinner which we loved - great food, great price and great cocktails. There is a the Sang Spa up in the same road which we went to and I had a very enjoyable 2 hours of being scrubbed and massaged. This villa is very central so everything is within walking distance. The only downside I would say, was perhaps walking back at night in the lane way to the villa we had to pass a pack of dogs that did there upmost to scare us to death with barking and baring their teeth. They never attacked us and we (sort of) got use to it by the last night but was very off putting however we know that this is common in Asia. Before we knew, it our 3 nights and 4 days were up and it was with real regret that we left Villa di Abing and Ubud. Would love to go back!

Room Tip: If you can, rent the whole villa.

The villa was amazing! Every detail was thought over. There were gorgeous flowers everywhere and at night the staff would light candles and incense. The rooms were huge and the bathrooms were spectacular with their outdoor showers and huge tubs. The staff could not have done more for us. Iluh would bring us umbrellas in the rain, organize trips, hire cars, give us rides when we needed them. Every morning Made and Norah would make a delightful breakfast. We could choose from a menu of Indonesian specialties, eggs with toast, banana pancakes, oatmeal and it always came with a lovely plate a fruit to start with. The trip was a dream and I would never stay anywhere else.

This was the third place we stayed in Ubud, so it was a great treat for us to arrive in a private villa after 10 days in hotels. The layout is original so it took a moment to realize we had three closed bedrooms, each with good airconditioning, two with mosquito nets and en suite bathrooms. It's all very large!

The rooms are immaculate and comfortable and the breezes come through nicely during the day, so it is like living outdoors, but easy enough to close them off at night to avoid any mosquitoes. Also the staff lights incense and offerings twice in the day which creates a lovely scented atmosphere as well. All the bath products are organic and the food served at breakfast is also very high quality. We also had two meals cooked and served for us in the villa by Made, who is a wonderful chef, and charges prices equivalent to takeout food. Ni Ketut is also very attentive and helpful, and arranged an in house massage for me, which was very luxurious.

The swimming pool is great, and the location is good. There's a bit of racket from local dogs and chickens, nothing that can be helped. And we sacrificed two soccer balls to the very steep ravine behind the villa (one just rolled off of the terrace) where one would never dare to go to retrieve them. Still, it is an easy walk down the narrow road to the main street in Ubud and there are lots of restaurants and good shops nearby. Also a lot of little spas and painting studios along the road.

A few details - I wouldn't necessarily bring a small toddler here as the balcony railings are not as child-proof as in North America, also there are a lot of stairs which might be a consideration for anyone with mobility issues.

We were happy to have free wifi in all the rooms, one of our requirements for our travels, and Ni Ketut also left us a mobile phone although we didn't use it more than once, but it was good to have. There are no t.v.s which my children didn't even notice but I certainly did.

It was lovely to shower outdoors and to find fresh frangipani flowers on our beds each morning. All in all, highly recommend and we look forward to returning.

This was our first overseas holiday and was needed to accomodate parents, a 17yo son and 12 1/2yr old daughter-all fiercely independent and having to survive together in the same space. From the moment we arrived late at night (5 hours overdue) our needs were accomodated in a quiet, efficient easy manner. Dinner had been pre-arranged at a restaurant. We immediately felt safe. We were overawed at the accomodation and the facilities-they are far better than the photos we had seen-spacious, simple and luxurious. The ability to live in the open air free from insects etc was a surprise-the lighting and incense created an exquisite ambiance. My reservations of teenagers with a close relationship to technology being unable to adjust to such a peaceful enviroment was unfounded, they swam, and read and truly relaxed. The people who manage this villa are its greatest assets, we loved them all. Ketut made us feel special from the start-not just like another booking at all. She helped organise all or adventures which saved us much difficulty in negotiating, communicating and managing money-we just got into the car and went. She intuitively knew what we needed and helped us organise a blend of relaxation and adventure during opur stay. She was never intrusive, but was there when we needed her. Made manages all the daily work brilliantly with her team (guess one has had a baby by now) and does it all without you noticing or feeling like you are in the way. Our breakfasts were superb and were an event to look forward to-fresh and tasty food. The special dinner which was made for us was just beautiful. Made's quiet nature masks her abilities to run the household. Gede was always there-at night to keep us safe and quietly working during the day, and always with the gentlest smile. He did not hesitate to take our son on the back of the motorbike to teh centre of Ubud to retrieve $70 of shopping he had left in the back of a taxi, and we didn't hesitate to let him. The Villa is in the center of Ubud, we walked day and night to explore, and yet returned home to tranquillity it is such a shielded and secluded place.
We discovered we found the relationships with each other and as a family that we thought we were losing with our busy lifestyles. We felt in the 6 days we were there that we had a home, and would not look anywere else to stay when we return. Villa di Abing commenced and completed our experience of Ubud, and showed us that the Balinese are a beautiful, spiritual and peaceful people.

This was our second stay at Villa di Abing. We booked on the spot after being in the property the first time for the following year, we enjoyed it so much and are already planning for our next visit. The staff are extremely accommodating and unobtrusive. The layout allows for 3 private suites and a central kitchen, dining and living area. The location is also exceptional being only a very short walk to Ubud's main street. Great coffee and breakfast to look forward to at the start of each day. Perfect place to do as much or as little as you wish. Highly recommended!!
