“Reflection of Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012 via mobile

My wife and I got married at Villa Pantulan in early July 2012. It was a beautiful experience which was made all the more special due to the spectacular venue and the professionalism and pleasant nature of all the staff who work there. The ceremony went off without a hitch and my wife and I often heard people marvel at the amount of work we must have done to prepare everything. The truth is that we had to do very little other than have a couple of meetings with Eka (who does an excellent job as manager of the villa) to let him know what we were thinking about. It was so easy! The staff did all the catering and the food was beautifully presented and delicious. The service was excellent - attentive yet unobtrusive.

My wife and I stayed in the master bedroom which sits pride of place in the villa overlooking gorgeous rice paddies. Her immediate family stayed in the 4 other rooms which are all lovely. You really can't go wrong here because there isn't a dud room amongst them. They all have their own particular charm. The rooms all have private outdoor bathrooms and everything is kept in perfect order by the staff. All beds have 'Kingcoil' pillow-top mattresses which I can assure you is a rarity in Indonesia. I only wish that there was more room to accommodate my own family during the wedding but it wasn't a huge problem as there are some reasonable (though slightly less salubrious) accommodation options within walking distance within Lodtunduh.

Pantulan means 'reflection' in Bahasa Indonesian. It is such an appropriate name for this villa because the magic of this place is a true reflection of the dedication and professionalism of Eka and his staff. Bravo!

10 of us stayed here for a short 3 days as our final leg of our Bali trip (we were in Kuta before that). Villa Pantulan was the perfect getaway from the traffic madness and the hustle and bustle of Kuta. The villa is very well designed and maintained. From the pool overlooking the paddy fields, the big open spaces that made up the dining and living room, the dedicated massage pavilion, to the comfortable bedrooms with open-air bathrooms, Villa Pantulan was absolutely gorgeous.

Another reason why our stay was fantastic was the very warm and hospitable service staff of the villa. We were treated like royalty from the moment we checked-in right up to the moment we checked-out. 2 of the staff that I particularly remember were Eka and Wayan. They're great guys, very very helpful and very friendly.

And by the way, if you happen to stay in Villa Pantulan, order a massage. I had a traditional massage session and a lulur session the day after. Both were fantastic.

In short, Villa Pantulan made our departure from Bali a very very hard thing to do. Wished I could stay longer. Will definitely try to make it back there again.

Our family of 10 adults and 3 children(2 infants) just returned from a week in Ubud at Villa Pantulan.
The Villa was enchanting, luxurious and beautiful. The food was tasty and plentiful. The staff were excellent including helping with the babies when we needed it. The celebrations(2 birthdays) were done with great enthusiasm and artistry and the decor was so beautiful and romantic we are still talking about the time the staff spent to get the atmosphere just right.
The only minor issue was the water. More plastic bottles in the rubbish in Ubud is NOT what we want. .
We would love to come back and we are already thinking of dates for next year !!!!

We are a family of 4 with two teenagers(age 17 & 15) and have just come back from the trip of a lifetime. We stayed 4 nights in the Villa Panulan and had the good fortune to have the place all to ourselves. We loved that is was a little way out of town in the village as it was extremely peaceful but close enough to go into town when you wanted. We spend Nyepi in Ubud and couldn't have been in a better place for "Silent Day" . Those of you who don't know what Nyepi is let me tell you. It is Balianese New Years and the following day you are not allowed to go outside of your home/hotel. Every thing is shut down from the airport to the television stations. We were in heaven as we relaxed by the pristine pool, read a book and just watched the birds in the rice field from the pool deck. Villa Pantulan is out of this world with the most comfortable beds , outdoor bathrooms and beautiful manicured grounds. What we fell in love with through was the staff! We cannot say enough about Eka Agus not to mention Marie, Kyloon (sorry , I know I have probably spelt your names wrong) who cooked our amazing breakfasts, Karma, Wayan ,and Phil (our safe driver) along with the others who I know I will spell their names wrong so I won't try. Eka went beyond his duties and took us out on a guided tour of the "true Bali" when we all rented scooters for the day. It was by far the best day we had on the whole trip! We saw places and people we would never have found by ourselves and we even had lunch in this breathtaking restaurant off the beaten path. We have memories that will last a life time and I hope a friendship that will also endure. The kindness and genuine goodness of the staff made us feel so relaxed , special, welcome and inspired. If you have a chance to stay in this amazing villa , you must treat yourselves to this wonderful oasis. It will be the best part of your trip to beautiful Bali I promise you!

We rented the entire Villa with friends while in Ubud for a friend's wedding. The service was outstanding and the staff wonderful. This is a beautifully designed space, minutes away from Ubud with gorgeous views. One of the most beautiful places I have stayed. Ideal to rent with family or a group of friends. A true oasis that exemplifies the genius of Balinese hospitality.

After a wonderful week at a villa in Seminyak, we recently stayed for 8 nights at Villa Pantulan, which is located in a rural setting 5 minutes by car from the centre of Ubud.
Our online booking had been so easy, everything sounded wonderful.
After a warm welcome by the staff, we were then shown around, and thought ‘this is heaven’.
Whilst the place is beautifully appointed with a lovely outlook, with breathtaking views over rice fields, this villa is managed like a hotel.
We were advised that any wine bought from outside would be charged corkage.
All drinks had to be purchased from the villa ie beer, spirits, mixers, bottled water, none to be brought in.
The criteria for choosing Villa Pantulan was from Trip Advisor recommendations.
Those people who have enjoyed special occasions, (we are pleased that they did), may not have stayed in a villa, in Bali, before. Breakfasts included, were delicious, cooked and served by the two lovely girls. Dinner and/or lunch - was limited to one combination. We were required to all have the same, which proved a difficult choice for those with dietary needs ie vegetarian and non -vegetarians in the group.
New Year’s Eve, was most enjoyable. The cocktails were nice, but the alcohol mix was minimal and drinks served in half glasses. Our preference was for larger glasses, which were charged at double. That’s ok it was the festive season.
We found during our stay, that we always felt uncomfortable, with the 24 hour constant physical, surveillance by the staff or security. Making an occasional cup of tea, filling up our water bottles with filtered water (was frowned upon). We were prevented from entering the computer room, and the locked TV room early in the morning. Fortunately we sorted that out with the Manager, Eka.
Our family consisting of 4 generations, are by no means liberty takers with ages ranging from the oldest 88 down to the youngest at 2 years old.
There is a driver available for only the Ubud area. Any further than 15 to 20 minutes travel away from Ubud, can be negotiated. We were ferried in and out of Ubud in stages in the one car, if it was for more than 7 passengers.
All meals, beverages, transport are subject to an additional 3% tax.
Having booked and stayed in villas in Bali previously, welcome, we have always worked well with our Chefs. We choose our menu each day, pay for the food, they buy and cook it, and the result has been of World Class. Everything is no trouble - all with a minimum of fuss. We have full use of the fridge at any time.
There is a driver as part of the deal, usually has a 10 seater van available for 10 hours per day for anywhere in Bali. We ensure that, in these villas, all staff and drivers receive generous gratuities.

In conclusion, it’s NOT about the money.
This review is about not having the run of the place, or the privacy.
We made the very best of the situation, with much enjoyment from the Elephant Safari, 40 km Bike Riding, motorbikes, painting galleries, a couple of great Ubud restaurants.

Pantulan, Manager at Villa Pantulan, responded to this review, April 15, 2012
I am Budiyasa, the manager of Villa Pantulan. I am writing to response the above review:

It is very important for me to clarify that there must be misunderstanding here. At Villa Pantulan, as we explain at our website that we are not self catered villa but we always try to accommodate guest needs by providing the menu (yes It is very limited). We have 5 different set menu and 10 different a la carte including local food. We do not have full menu like a restaurant has. But, if guest want anything outside the menu, we always try to make it if we can and know how to make it even making vegetarian menu is never been a problem for us.

Once you rent a villa, the whole villa is yours to enjoy responsibly. It is our responsibility to make sure that the villa is nice, clean, neat, safe at all the time. We also want to make sure that all guest belongings are safe as you can see from the website that our villa is very open to the outside atmosphere and that is why our staff always there to make sure to serve you and make those all happen. We do not want to take any risk with the safety of our guests and their belongings. We have 2 night guards at night and we require require them to lock all unoccupied rooms including the TV room at starting from mid night.

We never prevent the guest from using the computer. The computer is there to use by guest (sometimes we need to use it also) and we never prevent the guest to use it. About the TV room, we must lock it after all guest sleep and open it again in the morning at 6 am. Or if guest want, they can just tell us not to close it. It is not about the guest taking something but we afraid.

We provide the guests with a car with 7 seats from 8 am to 12 midnight. This is free to use with a driver with in Ubud area. If you want a tour outside of Ubud area, of course we will charge you accordingly.

Villa Pantulan is a registered villa at the government office. Any sales and revenue, we must pay tax including food, beverages spa and other services. We can not fool around with the tax office. I can tell here that for the last 3 years, the tax office has been so strict and all villas are required to report their income and pay tax every month.
WE NEVER PROHIBIT OUR GUEST FROM BRING IN BEVERAGE TO THE VILLA AND PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE. If guest bring in wines, yes we charge them corkage fee. Other beverages, we do not charge them anything. We have 17 liters bottled water for guest free to drink and refill their bottle. But we also provide guest with smaller bottle that guest must pay if the take it. We have full items of beers, soft drinks, sodas etc for sale. If the guests consume it, yes we charge it. But if guest consume their own, we will not charge them.

I hope my response will clarify the situation.
