This was our third visit to Komaneka Bisma - we have previously stayed at Komaneka Monkey Forest and Tanggayuda, but Bisma we enjoyed the most. The rooms are huge compared to rooms at many other resorts and the view from our balcony of the jungle was outstanding. The holiday for us was all about relaxation - we weren't interested in the local shopping or culture expeditions, and so other than going out for dinner, our entire time was at the resort, mostly by the pool. This suited us perfectly because the resort is incredibly quiet and peaceful. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We cannot recommend Komaneka at Bisma highly enough - we would just recommend that you take some strong insect repellent as we did get bitten a bit.

Our family of 5 stayed for 5 nights at this hotel's family pool villa 104.

The booking was done via their website and their reservations team is prompt and helpful. They were patient in answering my queries in arranging for a speedier passport clearance. This is about USD30 per head and worth it if you are travelling with children because the queue can be very long if several flights arrive together. Check first on the Bali airport website.

Our arrival was at night, after a stressful one and a half hours in the car with a screaming baby. Check in was done at the reception with a cup of toddy. This is a fabulous hot drink that my mother loved and had nearly every night.

The staff at the reception are wonderful and friendly. Ms Ade offered to carry my 11 month old son and there must be something magical in her touch because he calmed down and did not want me to carry him later! He is usually a shy baby. Also this set a precedent, and for the next 5 days, my baby would signal to be passed over to any lady in the Komaneka uniform he met.

The staff were also kind to my 5 year old, a waitress who also manned the reception bar gave her a punnet of strawberries when she heard the strawberry picking trip was cancelled.

We were brought to our villa and introduced to the facilities by Mr Anom. This is a considerate touch as you will not want to look for the switches, bottle opener, etc in the dark!

The family pool villa 104 is a double story villa with a small pool outside. Pool depth is 1.6m and can be cooler than the main pool. We spent more time at the main pool because of the children. The restaurant is on the 1st and 2nd floor, while the reception is on the fourth floor. The main pool is about another 2 floors down from the restaurant and the spa pool a further floor down. If you have difficulty getting around, this place is sort of wheelchair friendly.

Housekeeping comes twice a day and are accomodating to any requests for your favourite fruits or extra towels. (Passionfruit, local orange and salak are good) Turndown service includes a bedtime story every night and rose petals strewn on your bed.

We have just found out that the lower floor probably has bedbugs in their bedding. Our baby woke up with a few fresh bites on his face every morning and we thought we got lucky until a week after returning, my husband and I developed itchy red spots too. The doctor thinks they are bedbug bites and I did write to the hotel reservation team about it. So a previous reviewer was right about the bedbugs. My mother and daughter who slept on the upper floor were fine though.

We requested for 2 king beds and the lower floor had two single mattresses and toppers. Where were these bugs hiding!? Anyways, the beds were comfortable and will suit the westerners more than asians who prefer a firmer bed. Wear those in house slippers because there are lizards around and they will poo. They offer very comfortable pyjamas but I would recommend you wear a sleepsuit like my baby instead to avoid getting bitten. ;)

Other than the bugs, the villa is clean, huge and looks just like their official photos. Its well maintained and I've seen housekeeping staff climb on the roofs to clean the exterior walls. I'm giving them a poor for cleanliness solely because of the bedbugs.

The hotel is located in a developing area away from the busy main roads. The walk out to the main road will bring you through rice padi fields, ducks and locals. It is a pleasant 15 minutes walk which can be more difficult at night because there are no streetlights. Pedestrians and motor vehicles share a one and a half lane but everyone generally gives way.

Breakfast is very good, with a wide range of balinese to american choices and there is a real danger of overeating. It is ironical because the restaurant overlooks padi fields worked by a couple who live in a hut and will never get to eat this well. A must try is their congee in the balinese menu, balinese coffee as well as their banana jam. Skip the dry fried beehoon unless you enjoy chewing rubber bands. The food is catered to tourists so don't need to be too wary in trying their spicy foods.

For lunch or dinner, try their pizzas. They can put some of Australia's authentic pizzas to shame! Of all the places to find good pizza! Their rendang is also good.

Restaurant staff are very kind to children and always offer to carry my baby to allow me some time to eat. Special thanks to them. I cannot remember everyone's name but Ms Dek Sri and Ms Ninik come to mind. The restaurant was also able to whip up something special for my baby (steamed fish n veg with no seasoning), something I am truly happy about.

Afternoon tea on weekdays are accompanied by a wood carving and coconut leaf weaving demo. Interesting to get into while scarfing down their delectable kuehs and snacks.

Spa experience was pleasant, good even. The river runs below the massage huts. The bath tubs are huge and interior design gorgeous, blending in with the surroundings. You'd forget there was no air conditioning. Massage is good but not as good as the Tamarind spa or Iman Spa. But the convenience of having your massages and mandi lulurs on hotel grounds is significant. Plus, the facilities and environment truly trumps the Tamarind spa and Iman Spa.

There is a kids club where there is a half meter deep pool but there is no one there and the equipment looks weathered. Pool also looks a bit swampy and green.

There is a beautiful chapel on the grounds which can probably accommodate a hundred guests for a memorable wedding. Do remember to bring some mosquito patches, though the hotel does provide insect repellant in every room and deck chair in the main pool.

Overall, this is a well maintained hotel with thoughtful, luxurious facilities (did I mention the bathtub, international electrical adapter, apple tv, and deck chairs?) and outstanding staff. The people working here make this hotel shine and it is rather insulting, to leave a booklet showcasing them, in toilets. You will find "The last decade" a pleasant quick read about their pioneer staff but it confounds me, why anyone would leave this in toilets.

We will be back (with full sleepsuits and socks, because these bites are murder!).

Room Tip: Villas are all on the same floor as the restaurant. Villa 107 (?) or 108 is probably the nearest, fo...

Komaneka Bisma exceeded our expectations in most every way. The rooms are large and very comfortable, with beautiful rice terrace views. The grounds of the facility are stunning. The staff are very gracious, genuine, and accommodating. The location of the facility may be slightly too far for some to walk to central Ubud, but regular shuttles are provided, and several nice restaurants/coffee shops are within walking distance. Breakfast is very nice. Our room had a dedicated wifi router and Apple TV!

I really didn't want to leave, and will definitely return.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor for a better view.

Thank you to everyone at Komaneka at Bisma for the wonderful 3 nights we stayed! Everything was amazing, from the room to breakfast, the pool, and especially the staff. We couldn't have asked for more - especially to the two particular staff who made our stay extra special (especially for our 18 month old daughter who became quite fond of them both!) - Adil at Reception and Putu (sorry for spelling) in the Restaurant. Each morning at breakfast she would take our daughter for a walk and play with her letting us have 5 minutes of peace while we ate our breakfast!!! She was amazing !!
The pool is divine and the view over the rice fields and jungle was so peaceful. Also, must recommend Umah Pizza which is about a 5 minute walk down the road for the best pizza in Bali - without a doubt!!!!
Also have to mention the free yoga session which was so great too!
Thanks once again to everyone at Komaneka at Bisma! As I am a travel agent in Melbourne, Australia I will definitely be recommending to my clients in the future who want the perfect Ubud experience - families and honeymooners alike!

We spent 4 nights at Komaneka at Bisma on a trip of Bali, Lombok sand Gili T, and without a doubt this was the highlight of our stay. We have also been fortunate enough to have stayed at a good number of top hotels and this takes top spot.

Service is incredible. The staff are clearly well trained, intelligent and of lovely nature. For example our breakast waitress, Sitiari, was not just incredibly pleasant and thoughtful but went more than the extra mile to help my girlfriend who had been stung by fire coral. She found some special oil to help the sting and helped to apply it with a cotton bud. This is not service you could never expect, but it's what the hotel is like, and it means you leave the place saying that you would be doing yourself a disservice if never to return and it would be a shame not to see such lovely staff as Sitiari again, as you can bet your bottom dollar that when you returned they would remember you and make your stay the most relaxing as possible.

The hotel it's self is lovely, quite modern, the rooms of which we had the standard suite we fabulous, with a beautiful view of the rainforest and rice fields. They look better in real life than in photos. The pool is beautiful.

Food is excellent. breakfast includes a huge choice and if you can't make your mind up if to have a healthy omelet or a normal one the response was why don't you have small versions of both! Afternoon tea is brilliant, is a bit like the old visits to Grandmother. When your finish your cakes they even try to tempt you to have some more and offer to go and get it for you.

We didn't have dinner at the hotel as we prefered to go into Ubud.

Many more great things to write but quite enough to give you the idea it is a special place.

What a wonderful experience with outstanding facilities and most importantly staff who understand excellence in customer service! 4 nights was just enough but of course could easily have spent more time. The only frustration from our perspective was the intermittent wifi when trying to communicate from a business perspective, it works but not always and could be easily rectified. All in all the location and ambience was outstanding and easily one of the best resorts that we have experienced and a great introduction to Bali for us 9/10.
