“A hidden treasure in central Ubud”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2011

We stayed in bungalow n°4, spacious, clean, luminous and with a harmonious blend of Balinese and Western style. The swimming pool was very good, the breakfast (included) was a good start. This place manages to dodge the downsides of Ubud and still keep us close to nature for a reasonable price. Thanks a lot !

I stayed 5 nights with my friends in this beautiful hotel and we completely fell in love with it.
The location is perfect, just 3 minutes walk from the Monkey Forest. Very quiet and peaceful, our room was just in front of the lush green of the forest, beautiful!
Rooms are clean, linen and towels have an amazing fragrance and staff is very reliable.
Delicious breakfast is provided in the morning. Do not miss the yummy green pancakes!
Daily tours are also available with very affordable prices. Our driver Nyoman has been great!
We enjoyed a lot their tour called Bali on Bike...they drove us up to the Kintamani village and we cycled for 35 km down the valley, passing through local villages and rice paddies...absolutely unforgettable!
The best part was when we stopped at Dewa's house,( the Jati 3 manager) for lunch and tried their own food, which was something outstanding! I really recommend people to try this experience!
Great value and atmosphere..too good to be missed!

We booked a room in Ubud elsewhere but when we arrived we found it next to the local nightclub and moved out the next day. We visited about 10 places along Monkey Forest Rd (which was definitely the best to access shops, bars, restaurants, theatre shows etc) and Jati 3 was our last stop. Ubud has a lot of construction going on so we were pleased to walk down a quiet path to Jati 3. We had the new rooms just opened a few weeks ago and they were lovely with A/C, TV, fridge and a view straight out into thick rainforest jungle and a trickling fountain at our door with buddhas and flowers tucked in behind their ears. The pool was lovely and staff friendly. You can book a taxi through them for touring but they are more expensive (what hotel isn't) but just go out onto the main road and you will be offered taxi services by about 50 people : ). We only paid $40US/per night and it was great. I would really recommend it again if your looking for clean, quiet, comfortable and great location at a reasonable price. Best of all I could leave my husband by the pool and go shopping alone quite comfortably as it was a 1 minute walk to the main drag!

Room Tip: Ask for the new rooms on the lower levels - rm 18

The bungalows are located down a narrow alley and away from Monkey Rd, which means its quiet and yet, everything is at your doorstep.
The rooms are fine. We had an air-conditioned one. The beds were not very comfortable and the pillows were quite terrible and small.
The staff is indeed pushy to sell you just about anything you want and if you even show a slight interest in anything, they will have no problem interrupting your breakfast to make the sell. They are not aggressive, but persistent for sure.
The breakfast was lovely. The pancakes were some of the most delicious we had on our trip - pandan flavored with coconut syrup.
The pool is new and nice with a shallow bit for smaller kids.
The double story bungalows are a bit gloomy and have a steep fall to the little river from the balcony - no rail or protection - so dont book those if you have small children with you.
They do offer free internet, but when we were there it was incredibly slow to be usable. I used Bali Pesto, just as you exit the alley, instead, which had good wi-fi if you buy a drink.

The best thing about Jati 3 was the location (down a laneway off Monkey Forest Road). It was very convenient for us and our 3 year old to go out and explore the centre of Ubud. The pool was lovely too, as was the balcony which fronted the thick forest. The sound of the running river below was very soothing.
The Jati 3 "spa" isn't a 'spa' at all, but I had a massage in their most basic of facilites anyway. The therapist (Kedak?) was very good (albeit VERY firm with her traditional massage!)
The service was the worst part of our experience at Jati 3. On four of our five days here, we had to ask for fresh bath towels. After gradually running out, we even had to ask for more toilet paper, even though the room was 'serviced' each day.
By far, the worst aspect of the service was the aggressive tactics used by Jati 3 staff to 'on-sell' transport, tours, shows, etc. At our first breakfast, within the space of about half an hour, two different staff asked us four times to book transport with them. We're not the kind of travellers who book things in advance anyway, but because of the pressure they put on us, we decided early that we would not use their services. After asking a few other drivers on Monkey Forest Road, we also discovered that the prices Jati 3 staff had quoted were much more than what we eventually paid.
The owner, Mrs Putu, is lovely, and she discounted our rate after we complained about the service.
TIP: Don't book online. You will get a better rate if you just turn up - particularly in the low season.

Jati 3 is a guest house in Ubud and the lovely family there have slowly built
up there number of rooms without spoiling the garden/river setting. Follow a lane off monkey forest road and enter a quiet sanctuary with garden, flowers, comfortable rooms with all the conveniences and a lovely medium sized swimming pool.
The price is low, staff friendly, setting beautiful and rooms comfortable and very clean with balconies.
A Bali gem where you get a feel for the Balinese culture and customs.
