Owner description: Puri Saren Agung is the place where Ubud's long tradition of home stays all began, more than 80 years ago, when Bali first started to attract bohemian artists from around the world. Renting one of five traditional stone bungalows in the sumptuous royal courtyard is still quite an experience, and every night the palace comes alive with the sound of Gamelan music as Balinese dances are performed just across the wall from Puri Saren Agung.

“Worth a quick visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

Unless there is a big lineup it's worth dropping in and taking a quick look through the grounds, small as they are. There is no admission charge so the price is right. And it's at Ubud's main intersection so it's not out of the way.

I don't know anything about Balinese architecture but I enjoyed the walkthrough anyway.

“Most amazing dance shows in Bali”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

The venue is very nice and should be visited if you are in Ubud, but the ultimate Ubud experience is to go there for a 7.30pm dance show. They are the top-end of what you can see in Bali. The best dancers are selected, the shows are breath taking. Turn up 30 minutes early to get a good seat, or to get a seat at all!

“Palace in Ubud”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

This was recommended by my driver for the day. The grounds are totally beautiful, and the sculptures are amazing. It does not take a great deal of time for the casual visitor to see this place, and I did see many people walk in and out in a matter of minutes. I enjoy just standing or sitting, and watching and looking at, and absorbing the atmosphere of every place I go visit. Very nice that there was no fee to enter it. This is NOT by any means a go to destination, but something you can do in a short time while strolling through the wonderful and quite exciting, Ubud Market place!

“Beautiful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Not really a palace but more like a few temple courtyards that are available free to the public. A few areas are not available to tourist but these are clearly marked. There are several beautiful carvings
