“Little Balinese hideaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2014

We stayed as a couple for 12 nights (in June) in a suite.
Only good things about this hotel !
Beautiful small hotel, built in the Balinese style.
Friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms, wonderful garden.
We really felt that we were in Bali !
We had a very relaxing holiday.
I truly recommend this hotel !!!!

Room Tip: Suite 206 a little bit sunny in the afternoon

A few travel tips before the Hotel.
1. We flew with Singapore Airlines. Having flown through the Far East before I was aware of a shower facility in the Airports there. Take it. each of the Terminals has it and it cost £4 for a shower with Towel and Shampoo. There are also hair dryers to use. It refreshed us after our 12 hour London flight before the short hop to Bali.
2. Be very careful changing your money. Only use official ones. I used one thinking he was official and he was not. He tried to palm some of my money. The thing is I knew he was going to do it, watched him and still did not see him do it. He only produced "the missing money" when I expressed my upset (read that what you wish).
3. There is a $25 arrival fee and also a $25 exit fee. Our booking agent told us about the arrival but not the exit. The arrival you pay in dollars, but the exit in Indonesian Rupees. You can pay in Pounds or Dollars but believe me you get well and truly stung on the exchange rate.We had spent all our Rupees up and so paid in Pounds. It cost £23 each (work it out).
Now on to the Hotel.
I had arranged in advance top be picked up at The Hotel. They charged us a flat fee of $15 each way. From the time the guy found us he took our cases and then carried them to our room when we got there. Out of interest I asked a Cab in Sanur the cost and he said $12-15 dollars depending if you want to use the freeway or not, so it would of cost the same.
Arriving at the Hotel the Reception was busy with people preparing for a big festival. everybody stopped to say hello and the Receptionist, dressed in full traditional costume, checked us in and took us to our room.
I have to say i do not know what type of room I booked, but it was lovely. A large King size bed with superb air conditioning. Lots of cupboard space, a fridge and a large flat screen TV.
The toilets and showers were outside. Now don`t stop reading here. They were not just a pipe coming out of the wall. They were in a garden with plants and flowers. we had 2 and one of them had a large bath as well. No problems with hot water and the wall at the back stopped anybody looking if, if you were worried about that.
There was a nice sized pool and it seemed that most of the time we were the only people sitting around it. I do have to say that perhaps some of the mattresses were a bit tired, but the entire pool scenario was excellent.
We had breakfast included which gave you a choice of 3. Indonesian, American or European with Fruit Juices and Tea/Coffee.
You have to understand that you really are staying down the bottom end of the market. If you want to get luxury then there are hundreds of Hotels all along the beach that charge 3/4 times as much. It all depend what you are looking for. That said we met friends over there who were staying in one of those Hotels. We looked at each others Hotels and rooms and agreed that we had got the best deal. There`s was soul less. It was like being on a package holiday in one of those massive complexes that have sprung up around the World. Ours had the personal touch and nothing was too much. On the Saturday morning the Hotel owner`s wife and children came in to the pool for a swim first thing in the morning. It turns out they lived in the house opposite. When my wife and I appeared they politely moved their towels off the beds, putting them on the floor so we could have the beds. They also took the trouble to chat to us and ask if we were enjoying our holiday and where were we from?
The Hotel is set in lush tropical grounds and even though it is close to a road it was very peaceful.
The beach is about a 300 yard walk. Out the Hotel, turn left. 20 Yards. Turn right. Just keep going and you arrive at the beach.
To sum up.
For what we paid (between me and the Hotel) we had a fantastic time. We will return to Bali and most definitely look forward to returning to this Hotel.
Thank you to all the staff and especially the Manager who always replied to my emails within the hour.

Room Tip: Ask not to back on to the road.

The premises are absolutely lovely and one of the main reasons we liked that place so much. If you want to get some Balinese feeling during your holidays, this place will meet your expectations. The frangipani and other flower trees melt perfectly with the few statues and bungalows. A lot of green is to be found within the hotel area, which is very pleasant. The pool is nice, we enjoyed it a lot there, bathing, sleeping, reading a book... There are however only six sunbeds and only two of them in the shade, but at least during our stay we always found a place when we wanted to.
The restaurant serves good food for reasonble prices (e.g. 30k IDR for a Nasi Goreng), and the staff was helpful and very friendly. The deluxe room we had was spacious and contained a small desk, a comfortable double bed with mosquito net, AC, flat screen satelite TV and a small fridge. We especially liked the ceiling painting, it adds to the Balinese atmosphere. The bathroom was clean but below room standard, a simple western style toilet and a shower in a bathtub without curtains. Moreover, wifi is available everywhere on the premises, but was so incredible slow that it was basically unusable most of the time.
Still, we loved that place and throughfully enjoyed our stay, but we must add that we found a 50% offer online, and for that price this place was a real bargain, at full price we would probably "only" give 4/5.

Me and my sister (from Sweden) went to Bali for the first time in February 14 and decided to stay for 30 days in Sukun Bali Cottages. We booked the standard room from home but when we arrived it was way too small and not that nice as we expected, so the day after arrival we upgraded and got a deluxe room and WOW, WE LOVED OUR ROOM. The service was incredible, it was such a nice and perfectly sized hotel with very warmhearted staff. Amazing! So my recommendation is book one of the better rooms, its worth every extra dollar! We stayed for 30 days at this hotel and I would love to come back soon again and stay there! Its very close to everything: the beach, the stores and restaurants and massage places. And besides, a taxi to basically anywhere in Sanur only costs about a dollar... And we also rented bikes very cheap, which was nice. Conclusion: GO TO SUKUN BALI COTTAGES -WE LOVED THE PLACE!

Very well located with minimal street noise but a few neighbourhood roosters that cannot really be avoided in much of SE Asia.

Stunning grounds with pool- excellent gardens with a lot of frangipani trees adding colour and scent.

Rooms (101) was spacious for 2pax, comfortable bed and 2 bathrooms- one being an outdoor bathrrom.. Small features could be added to make it more beautiful ie. paintings on the wall but this is a small critique. Small terrace with shade for reading.

Restaurant is adequate for breakfast but not the greatest for dining. Not a problem though as great restaurants are close by. Massimo Ice Cream just around the corner. Superette outside the main gate. Waliking distance to beach, longer walk to Hardy's Supermarket.

Wifi coverage was good. Easy to Skype but didn't try with video.

Rooms cleaned daily and staff were very attentive with good English skills at front desk.

Minor issues with a broken toilet ball chain which was resolved promptly. Toilet/bathroom fixtures aren't new but this is hardly a thing to concern yourself with on vacation. Overall, a very positive experience.

For the price we received from online bookings, I would recommend to friends without reserve.

Room Tip: Possibly 100 side rooms are further from main road which could reduce any road noise.

Better write my last report before returning back to paradise. I stayed at Sukun Bali Cottage in January for 12 nights. It is a beautiful complex in a good location - well at least for my purposes. Yes, this hotel has not direct beachfront location, but the beach is only a short walk away. Furthermore, the place offers a beautiful pool area in a tranquil garden setting with lounges and towels. During my stay very few people frequented this beautiful area.

There are plenty of restaurant options around this Southern end of Sanur area.

I had cottage number 102 which is in a quiet corner and offers a comfortable little patio area overlooking the gardens and neighbouring cottages. Inside it was spacious with two large outside bathrooms, bar-size fridge, good split air conditioner, TV with plenty of channels; including Satellite but NO Fox Sport (I missed out on my NHL fix). Forget reading at night as the lights are not up to it. There was no desk or room safe in this unit. The bed is very comfortable and a good king-size.

The cottages are aging but maintained reasonably well. Being in this game, I know there is always room for improvement and this place is no different. Cleanliness was so-so and some towels have seen better days; I guess fussy guests could register issues in this department.

The breakfast was included in my package. You select from a static menu with very limited choices. A more alternating selection would do wonders to guest satisfaction and challenge the kitchen staff more to come up with new culinary creations. The coffee is real Bali kopi with the mandatory sediment at the bottom of the cup and yes, I could get two cups on most mornings.

All staff members were cheerful and very helpful. In particular, the ‘boss’ Mr Kadek, Leila in the kitchen and the people at reception, Mr Tri, Gede and Kadek, did way more than is normally expected. The laundry service is outstanding. Thank you for looking after me. I’ll be back soon.

We stayed 5 nights in this hotel. For around 40 AUD a night you sleep in a spacious bedroom with a big bathroom and with breakfast. That alone is already unbelievable good value. The staff are friendly and helpful, the small swimming pool and gardens are really nice. Being in the hotel in daytime is very peaceful and you can really relax. Walk out the hotel and go to the right and within 5 min you are on the beach. Loads of shops and restaurants around. The massage salon across the road (Glo) is a very good one. Of course the hotel is not perfect. There are some little things like some ants on the wall, a dripping tab and some worn out towels. Also the room can do with a little upgrade but who cares you get what you pay for. We also tried dinner in the hotel one night. The food wasn't amazing but good enough and very cheap. The fried noodles were really nice. In this hotel you will get a lot for not much money, absolutely recommended!

Room Tip: Rooms to the left are further away from the main road so less nightlife noise.
