“A Delightful Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

For anyone looking for a friendly hotel in a beautiful location this is it! From the moment of our arrival until our departure two and a half weeks later we enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is right on the lovely beach at Sanur. The charming reception staff welcomed us warmly and explained our "all inclusive" package. We were shown to our room in the first floor. Admittedly the room does look a little dated and the bathroom had a beige suite and very 1970s tiles but it was spacious and scrupulously clean.

The restaurant is right on the beach and the staff are friendly and efficient. Special mention must go to the waiters Su and Mahdi who work incredibly hard to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of the guests. The lunch and dinner menu is good and not (thank God) one of the dreadful buffets that seem to be present in all too many hotels these days. Breakfast is buffet style with omelets and pancakes cooked to order.

The small pool is shaded on one side by bougainvillea and sunloungers and towels are plentiful. The gardens in which the hotel stands and gorgeous, pools of fish surrounded by exotic and beautiful flowering plants and trees. To walk through these gardens on our way to the restaurant was pure joy.

There are shops, souvenir stalls, beauty parlours and restaurants within a short walk of the hotel. The hotel can provide on request and car and driver and we were charged just £40 for 8 hours in a comfortable, modern car with Yan our driver who was a great guide, knowledgeable and charming. Any part of Bali can be reached in under 4 hours from Sanur and the drivers can recommend the places worth visiting.

A significant number of guests at the hotel were single travellers but the friendly atmosphere ensured that they were never lonely. Many guests were repeat visitors, we met a Dutch couple who have visited for a month a year for the last 14 years and would never go anywhere else. Others were there for the third and fourth times and said that although they had been to other hotels in Bali they kept coming back to Diwangkara because of the friendly staff and guests. The guests are a mix of British, Australian, Italian, Dutch, French, Korean, Chinese and Indonesians rom other islands. There were a few children but it was mainly couples or single adults there and child facilities appeared to be limited to a shallow pool for the kids and the beach.

I loved Bali, loved the Indonesians and loved Diwangkara. Highly recommended.

The hotel is located in front of the beach. Room was not in fantastic condition and the toilet window allows flies & mozzies in, hence you need to keep the toilet door close to keep them out.
Breakfast provided was a very basic & simple fare.
Strolling along the beach will bring you to a long stretch of restaurants, pubs and markets.
Overall the hotel is worth staying if you are travelling on budget and wants to be right next to the beach, food, drinks and tourist shopping.

We stayed at the Diwangkara for two nights which we felt were two nights too many :(

When we arrived the reception had no recollection of our booking which may have been due to the fact we only booked it a day beforehand so can understand that one.

The grounds and garden of the hotel are lovely. It is a couple of seconds walk to the beach - which is this strange blackish sand but walk 500 meters up and you reach a much cleaner brighter beach.

We were shown to our room which was adequate but was very tired looking in comparison to what we have stayed in during the trip.

It's set a bit of a walking distance from where the restaurants and bars are so be prepared for a walk.

The breakfast wasnt very nice - in fact the worst one we had and we've stayed in 7 different hotels in Bali, Lombok and the Gili islands. We both ordered boiled eggs of which took over 20 mins to arrive - hardly because they had a rush on, was only another couple in the restaurant at the time. Overall service was below average - asked where we could get a taxi from one evening to which we were told to walk up this busy main road, no offer of calling us one. Set off looking to find a taxi and I tripped over the broken pavement and split my big toe nail in half, pouring with blood. Staggered back to the hotel to demand they call us a cab and still the staff were very reluctant to do so.

Also we needed to get the boat out to the
Gili islands on day of check out and the reception told us the boat will collect us at 9am from the hotel lobby. We waited on for 40 mins and the pick up never arrived so we asked reception to call the boat operators, of which the reply was they are waiting for us down at this hotel down the beach. If they could have told us the correct information in the first place...

Now, it wasn't all doom and gloom; we had a massage in the hotel spa and must admit that it was the best we had received whilst on our trip.

We stayed for one night on 30 July 2012, in a private villa, No. 119. The villa was absolutely beautiful, very private with pool and fountains, outdoor lounge and four poster bed, very charming.
The hotel is right on the beach and has lovely gardens, little fishponds here and there and the restaurant closest to the beach.
We loved it, and I was sorry we could only stay for one night but we went to Nusa lembongan the next day.
I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade, they have specials and you can get a villa worth $300 for $150.

We booked with agoda.com who advertise this hotel as 4 Star but is in fact a local 2-3 Star that strugggles to achieve this rating.
Having just returned from an 12 night stay (which was about 12 nights too long) we found the hotel very tired, with unhygienic pool, unsatisfactory meals, not enough loungers, beach being used by local dogs as a toilet and fighting arena, all sorts of debris floating in the sea, dirty beach, rooms, towels and smelly drains in the bathrooms. .

In general was our vacation ruined and a waste of money, for such amount of money (garden deluxe villa 112 US $) you can get much better deals.

Regards
A unhappy guest

Dear Valued Customer

Warm greeting from Diwangkara Holiday Villa Beach Resort & Spa Bali

We sincerely appreciate your very constructive feedback during your stay with us.

Due to your caring concern we can continually strive to improve our selves better. Being a boutique and a preferred hotel , many of our return guest love our set up especially our garden with beautiful of green.

We do agree with your valuable comments on the beach with local cultural presence comparable to the privately owned beach stretch actually paid through high room rate levied.

We also would like to apologies if we have made your holiday uncomfortable and rest assured that is not our intention.

Once we thank you for your time & valued comments, look forwards for your next visit again.

We spent a couple of nights at Diwangkara during our honeymoon on Bali, and found it to be nice enough. We had one of the cheaper rooms and eventhough it didn´t have too much of a personality, it was clean and had comfy beds. The breakfast was one of the highlights, especially the made to order- pancakes and omelettes were nice. The hotel is located on the beach, and we enjoyed the free use of sunbeds there. On the morning of our departure we had to leave the hotel before the breakfast opened, and when we told the staff about this, they helped us to place an order for breakfast-items that then got delieverd to our room very early the next morning.

It's not the most polished Villa.

- The rooms are a bit tired, the towels used felt like they had been there since the start.
- Bedding was decent
- Room was clean but overall it had a bit of a 'musty' feel.
- The general hotel facilities and gardens are really well kept and pleasant.
- Breakfast was below average

If your looking for a romantic getaway destination I'd pass.

Recommend for a budget weekend away with mates (when your not going to be spending much time in the room).
