Chose this Hotel for the location & price over the Christmas/New Year Break & found it a bit more expensive with the $172 pp cost for the New Years' Ball. We chose a room with a sea view & got the ground floor, room 506, close to the lagoon pool which was handy. This is a large hotel, 400+ rooms, and so many more people! Also they have Garuda Air staff coming and going & they have their own 'booking in/out lounge'. Rooms are cleaned each day by caring, helpful staff...many thanks...with 2 bottles of free water each day.
Staff are very efficient, helpful & obviously know their jobs well & special mention to dining staff, who have the utmost patience, Manik (helped teach me Indonesian), Purwita, Juwita, Widiyanti, Melia & Sri (just to name a few). The breakfast is the highlight for food as they have a huge selection & never seem to run out. Great egg & pancake station with a terrific female chef who 'throws' the omelette to turn them over! Ate at the same restaurant for lunch & dinner & around the pool and found the meals tasty but a limited selection. Italian restaurant (on the grounds) was nice & staff were excellent too. Plenty of places up the road to eat at for really good prices & variety. Our favourite was the 'Tropicana'.
Lagoon pool is a great size, but in our view it needs a good clean, with a swim up bar. Beach is right out the front with plenty of lounge chairs to relax in & this was our preferred place to swim & relax.
Free Shuttle buses from the Hotel: 10am to Discovery Shopping Centre in Kuta (own transport return). Hardy's Shopping Centre every 20 minutes for drop off & pick up. We purchased extra water, cans etc. as Hotel prices are bit pricier.
The Hotel also has 3 little shops (street style), Tailor, Jewellery Shop, Bank & convenience store on site next to the Lobby. We had a few things made by the Tailor & were very happy with the outcome (shoes, clothes). Shop on the left gives excellent prices & Jewellery store is limited & costly.
The room porches have a small hanging rack to dry clothes on & saw some balconies with rope tied up across the railing to give extra drying space. We got a new bed in the first week which was more comfortable than the original so we were very happy.
Sorry but a few negatives for us: banging of main doors & porch doors all through the night as people coming & going; noise through the ceilings from people above you; bathroom needs updating; street hawkers get you as soon as you leave the pool area to go to the beach. (I know this will sound self-centred but it was our 30th wedding anniversary whilst here & no special treatment)
Overall, Sanur Beach Hotel runs like a well-oiled machine, great quiet location, many services & variety of places to eat/drink, beautiful well-kept gardens & Balinese style Hotel with beautiful staff. We compliment & congratulate all staff for their efforts in the Black & Gold Ball for New Year's Eve. We enjoyed it & first time we have been away for this time of year, so thank you for making special memories for us. Thank you also for a gift of biscuits on Christmas Day and our little chocolates for New Years.
