The Really Good:
In the best area of southern Bali
Spectacular property and grounds
Lots of trees and pools etc.
Very large room
Good wi-fi everywhere
Complimentary fruit and mini-bar everyday are nice touches
Nice free bikes, which we took advantage of
Nice local music everyday from the centre (although the musicians' repertoire needs expanding)
The shop in the hotel has some of the best items in Bali - loved the silk scarves (bought 4)
Lunches at the pool are good and not over-priced
High for Bali, not high by world standards but you can easily get 5* for considerably less in Bali
Spa and laundry are totally over-priced considering you can get both just outside the door for a fraction of the cost in the hotel
Depends on the wind but can be dirty, although they do clean it
Not really for swimming
Huge difference between high tide and low tide - at low tide you can walk out for 15 minutes and not get your knees wet
The Needs Improvement:
No concierge, no one to give you local tips, directions etc. The hotel really needs someone with the golden keys
Bikes need cleaning (especially the handlebars) and they should buy a few more since they all get reserved - why not make all the guests happy if they want a bike?
Had a few service hiccups - some staff need more training
Had a serious issue with the water in our room, which took 3 days to sort out (out of 7 days there) - was compensated with a bottle of local wine, though
Butler introduced himself to us on the first day, then largely disappeared, although we always had good service
Could use a small table in the toilet area for your phone or Ipad
The sandals/slippers were AWFUL for my feet; they don't have a large size, only small and medium (Asian sizes!) To be fair, wife disagrees, she loved them!
