“Laid back holiday with extended family ...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

This was our first stay in Sanur (we usually stay in Legian), and there were 9 of us ranging in age from 6 – 55 years, including 3 teens.

Our experience with Griya Santrian was above average right from the start when we were dealing with Yulia by email with our initial enquiries, through to our bookings (5 rooms in total). Yulia was always professional and prompt with all her replies.

We were really happy to get 2 lots of interconnecting deluxe rooms as we'd requested - rooms 128 & 129, and directly above, rooms 228 & 229. The rooms were spotlessly clean and very spacious, although I found the bed quite hard. The upstairs balcony was huge and very private as it was an end room (228). These rooms are right near the middle pool and spa, and only a short walk away from the main pool and reception. The rooms on the ground floor had a large terrace but these weren't as private as the first floor balconies.

Our other room, 117, was a ground floor deluxe room closer to the main pool and looked like it had been refurbished recently with a beautiful black marble (granite?) bathroom - very nice. TV reception in all rooms was just basic channels and didn’t include CNN, Discovery Channel etc.

The gardens, ponds and water features in the hotel are beautifully maintained. Free wifi is available in the lobby and the adjacent lounge, but unfortunately not in the rooms.

All the meals we had at the hotel were good with the exception of breakfast - expensive and very average quality. We usually had breakfast at one of the many cafes on the beach a short walk away for 1/3 of the price.

Hardy's Supermarket is a short bemo or taxi ride away, or a 10 min walk ; push bikes are for hire everywhere - we hired 9 for 2 hours and rode the path along the beach - great fun! ; Massage places are cheap and plentiful, or for a splurge Aroma Spa is good. We had good meals at Gateway To India, The Wicked Parrot, Street Cafe, La Taverna and great live music at Casablanca.

Sanur is much quieter than Kuta/Legian but that’s what we liked about it. Would definitely stay at Griya Santrian again.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have more privacy

We stayed here for 4 nights and decided to go back for another 6 nights since we loved Bali and loved this location. There is an amazing boardwalk that takes you from the top to the bottom of the beach. We were early birds and got up early every morning to watch the beautiful sunrises with Mt Agung in the background. The 2nd time we were there we were given the newly renovated deluxe rooms. Beautiful. We loved the direct access to the beach and the food was excellent. Found the cocktails to be a little watered down so started to look elsewhere for our evening cocktails. Finally on the last night we mentioned the watered down factor to the bartender and he gave us superb margaritas. There were many families, couples and singles at this hotel.

Firstly , the positives, beautifully situated on pretty Sanur Beach front. The pool looks out to the sea and has a swim up bar.
Very attractive grounds and statues dot the grounds and paths.
Very friendly staff.
We chose a beach side room and were most unimpressed, dark , gloomy with a well below standard , TINY bathroom, picture , chipped enamel bathtub with shower over, toilet that wouldn't flush properly, a 70s TV set
The most disappointing was NO WI FI in room
Really in 2013 if you're not going to offer Free WI FI , which you should, at least give guests an option to buy some time in their room , rather than having to traipse around to public areas .
It felt a bit like a Butlins seaside camp with huge amounts of Dutch / German groups escaping the Winter
Some guests mentioned that some rooms were lovely with large bathrooms, wish we had have had one of those.
The aircon was icy, we couldn't alter it, came down with a cold from it I think too.

this hotel is awesome, highly recommend the suites. great pools, great restaurants, great location, there are nice verandahs or balconies outside each room, the suites have TV, DVD, coffee table, tea/coffee making, dressing room with hand basin, separate bathroom with shower, toilet and bath. clothes line above bath. toiletries provided. so spacious, mosquito nets around the four poster king sized bed. absolute luxury.

Room Tip: The suites are amazing, lounge chair, fridge, lots of room. The deluxe rooms are really nice, just...

Stayed 6 nights in November and would definately go back, the resort is right on the beach so you have the choice of the lovely pools or the beach to relax by. The staff are super helpful the rooms are fine, couldn't fault the place.

Stayed here for a few nights during a 4 week trip round Bali - easily the worst value for money of all the places we stayed.
The hotel is undergoing major building work which we were unaware of until arrival. We were offered a free meal as a 'good will' gesture but unfortunately the meal at the inhouse restaurant was terrible!
The room photos on the website showed a nice rain shower but the room we had had an old shower that was little more than a trickle.
Breakfast was not included in our package and we were told it would be 10$us to purchase - turns out that's before tax which we found out later - we tried it only once and it was no where near worth the money!
No mosquito net over bed - would be a welcome addition!
Wifi is only in communal areas and very slow.
On the plus side - the grounds are beautiful with good clean pools and a very nice beach front.
If you do stay here, eat at 'the village' for good pizza and 'little bird'. We also went diving with 'joes gone diving' and had a fantastic time.

We stayed at Griya in Jan 2013 and it was our 3rd visit to Bali & 3rd time at Griya. It had been 13 years since our last trip and they have made some great improvements including the reception area and 2 extra pools which was great as we stayed towards the back of the resort. The staff as always were great and always willing to make sure your stay is one to remember. Griya is in a perfect position in Sanur with all the top restaurants, Hardy's supermarket, money changers and the markets all within short walking distance. Highly recommended for those with families and those who just want a relaxing time. Already planning the next trip to Griya.
