“Traditional and great hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

We stayed at the hotel 3 nights during our holiday in Bali. We loved this hotel. Location is good, right on the beach. The only complaint is that "private beach" only means literally the beach, not the water. I hated the invation of water jets. They should have limited area for water sports. In any case this is not the hotel's fault...
Rooms may need some upgrading but still lovely and traditional, especially big bath tub and outdoor shower is great. We also liked the small private garden. Not big, but compared to big hotels where anybody can peek into your patio this is much more to my taste. Hotel property is full of character with flowers, trees and statues.

Children's extra beds didn't have mosquite nets but they provided one upon request. After Ubud's quieteness the loud music from restaurants at night felt quite disturbing, but again not really the hotel's fault.

Breakfast is fabulous. Tandjung Sari breakfast on sunny beach side restaurant and what else do you need? All in all we liked this hotel and I won't hesitate to recommend this to hotel anyone travelling to Sanur.

After having travelled to Sanur many times and walking past Tandjung Sari, we finally decided to spend a few days here. I had read many good reviews, so was quite confident that it would be a lovely stay. And it was.
The only disappointment was our room. We had booked a village bungalow (new) ( no.6) and were under the impression that these bungalows had been renovated. Not so. Floor and wall tiles were old and cracked and not especially clean in the toilet. It was such a shame because the rest of the experience was so lovely, right down to the outdoor shower ( fantastic at night under the stars) ,the turn down service and spraying each night before retiring to quell the mosquitoes.
Breakfasts were good- a la carte here as opposed to buffet breakfast in most hotels- but selection and quantity is more than enough. We did not dine here at night, preferring better value restaurants on Danau Tamblingan.
The other big plus at this hotel is the pool is salt chlorinated-the only one I have struck on my travels here so far. And wonderfully refreshing. Most days my husband and I had it to ourselves as the clientele here were mainly older and tended not to swim.
All in all a nice holiday.

It's hard to describe about the hotel in written, all in my memory just that the hotel was so lovely, quiet and so peaceful.
I love to sit during the sunset and enjoying the view from Sanur Beach, the restaurant, bar and the pool also uniquely traditional balinese design.
The owner also such a warm person, they greet and dine with the guest, send my best regards to Ms Wita & Mr Avy.
The food has such a good presentation and taste, staff also very helpful & friendly.

We stayed at the Tandjung Sari almost 30 years ago on our first visit to Bali. This is where we fell in love with Bali. We have been coming back to Bali at least once a year since then. Sanur is our favourite city in Bali. We have stayed at a few different places in Sanur, but this is our favourite. We like room #20. The room is large with a table, bed, sofa, bed side tables. The closet space is more than adequate. From our bed we look outside to a beautiful garden. We have a large private lanai where we can relax and enjoy the outdoors. Their breakfasts are great. I particularly like the homemade granola with yoghurt and honey. The wireless broadband allows us to keep up with our work. The staff is exceptionally trained.

We didn't stay here but we kept coming back for the delicious food in Tandjung Sari's restaurant. After a 3 week Holiday in Indonesia we are convinced that this was the best place to be when you are in for treat!

Tandjung Sari is a haven and a Bali treasure. I checked in and could not think of a single reason to leave for days. The bungalows are beautiful, spacious and comfortable, and the coffee table books are collector's items. Sarongs and wonderful white cotton sleep shirts are provided for every guest as well as straw sun hats. The entire resort is filled with intriguing antiques, and the owners have established a foundation to support the arts of Bali: you are likely to see children learning the intricacies of Balinese dancing in a beach-side pavilion, and they perform at dinner on the first and third Saturdays of every month.

The beautiful pool is salt water, and from the beach lounge chairs you can see Mt. Agung across the water. Beach swimming is best at high tide, and it is useful to have some beach shoes as there are bits of coral and shell underfoot. The gift shop has a tasteful selection, the library is lovely, the bar is charming, and the food is exceptional. The chef even let us come to the sparkling clean kitchen to let us watch him create the prettiest and tastiest Tahu Talur (egg and tofu) I have ever seen.

The staff are graciously accommodating without ever being obtrusive, and they will go to extraordinary lengths to make sure everything is just right. (Thank you, Pak Made, for coming all the way to the airport on your motorcycle to make sure I had something I had inadvertently left in the car!)

Tandjung Sari has been in the same family for fifty years, and as a guest you feel embraced by the family tradition of warm and gracious hospitality. It is a place that lives on in one's heart and I cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: The Jamu Spa on the Tandjung Sari property is excellent. The Village Bungalows are back from the bea...

This is a beautiful hotel with a wonderful tradition. It is nicely located on the beach.

The staff were excellent - very courteous and helpful.

The hotel is safe and the rooms are very clean and spacious.

My only complaint is that there is no TV in the rooms. In this day and age, while we all seek a respite from the frantic world, when vacationing, it is still nice to have a TV, even to put on in the background.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Tandjung Sari was opened in 1962 and began as an extension of the family home of Indonesian proprietor Wija Wawo-Runtu. The hotel was named Tandjung Sari (cape of flowers) and initially developed as Bali's very first boutique property to be managed as a small family business catering to the needs of a privileged clientele. The scale of the entire complex was purposely kept low rise and the articulation of space together with the rambling indirectness of the path ways has generated a relaxed, leisurely pace. Operational for nearly half of a century, Tandjung Sari showcases an eclectic collection of rare Balinese and Dutch colonial artifacts as a tribute to the glorious past. ... more   less
