“Enjoyed it, but not our Cup of Tea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2012

My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights in a Club room.
We were given a welcome drink and cool towel while we were checked in.
It is a large resort so we were surprised not to have a map of the resort or any directions of where things were when we arrived. We were presented with a “passport” with our vouchers for breakfast and afternoon tea, and some discounts for attractions.
The Club rooms are set out around the pool reserved for guests staying in the Club rooms. Although these are advertised as Adults only there were children at the pool at various times, and staying in the rooms. We were glad to be staying on the top floor as the rooms on the ground floor did not seem very private and they would not have got the nice breeze we did from our balcony.
The room was nice but lacked that something special, more Colonial than Balinese in feel. There was an entry area with room for plenty of luggage and the sink and vanity were outside the bathroom (shower, separate bath and toilet) which was actually really handy. In a separate room are the king bed with mossie net, big tv, sofa and ottoman, and the balcony opened off that. The balcony (overlooking the tops of the frangipani trees) was great for evening drinks and for reading during the daily down-pours!
We expected a nightly turn-down service but this only happened twice in a 6 night stay. The room service daily was very good though, and always done by the time we got back from breakfast. Water pressure in the shower was terrible (maybe because we were on the top floor?). I didn’t like the soap or combined shampoo/conditioner that was provided, so used the ones I’d brought from home.
The other two pools are close to the beach front and we did swim in both at different times (both very nice). We were a bit disappointed with the Club pool initially as it seemed small and austere, but it quickly grew on us as a peaceful haven to relax after the hustle and bustle out on the streets (apart from the times there were children present).
The resort fronts the beach and the beach path that follows the coast. There were plenty of sun loungers and big day beds along the beach front that seemed to be well occupied daily. The beach was very well kept, and there were plenty of people swimming in the ocean. We walked almost the entire beach path and we thought the Puri Santrian had the nicest beach frontage.
We tried the happy hour at the beach bar one afternoon and were keen to settle in for a while as we managed to nab a free day bed, but the cocktails we ordered were horrible! My husband didn’t even finish his which is a first, it was that bad. Please give the staff some more training!
Breakfasts were fine, we were given the option of eating upstairs or downstairs and we went upstairs everyday. Not sure if there is any difference in the buffet? The selection was not huge, but everything was very nice and the lady at the egg station also cooked the best banana pancakes to order.
Due to the other things we were doing during the day, we only managed the afternoon tea twice. It was a tasty little selection (small sandwich and small cake each) served down on the beach front. Tea or coffee is included, which I don’t drink, but the staff gave me iced tea which was lovely.
Overall we had an enjoyable stay, but the resort lacked some sort of charm and maybe it was just a bit too big for our liking. If you don’t mind that big resort feeling, it is in an excellent location with plenty of shops and restaurants right on the door-step and the beach path out the front.
In paying for the extra privilege of the Club rooms it was dissapointing to find that children were allowed in the area, and there seemed to be no service for food/drinks around the club pool. The resort needs to address these issues.

Room Tip: If you choose a Club Room ask for a 2nd or 3rd floor room for privacy.

Hotel - good beach location.
Rooms - a bit tired, towels are clean but old.
Spa - very nice, lots of treatments.
Staff - militant, we have never been told before what to do so much, there was no service with a smile just a begrudging waiter, who took an order which they invariably got wrong and then the food turned up as and when, sometimes 1hr later. The wine menu probably had less than 50% of the wine available and was very expensive. The staff were generally grumpy and inflexible for example we were told off for asking for two towels and for bringing them back the next day & not that night. I don't go on holiday to be told off.

From the time we arrived at the Puri Santrian to the time we left the service was excellent. We were upgraded to one of the suites which was absolutely fantastic overlooking the main pool with views of the beach as well. When we arrived we got refreshing cooled minted towels and check in was smooth and hassle free. We were at the hotel between the Christmas and New Year’s holidays and even though it rained at lot, there was lots of rainfree time to explore the hotel and area.

My two year old fell sick halfway through our stay and the reception staff were more than happy to organise for the doctor to come to our room for a consultation, the prescribed medication was delivered to our room as well. She recovered within a couple of days and didn’t skip a beat in enjoying her holiday. The cost of the consultation and medication was more than what we would normally pay here in Australia but then again we were in a foreign land and can claim the costs from our travel insurance. The reception staff were fantastic in following up after the doctor’s visit and checking to make sure the medication had been delivered as well as notifying us of any delays. We were even able to put the bill on the room and pay on departure.

The food at the restaurant was fantastic, my favourite was the charcoal grilled prawns, juicy and very tasty and the club sandwich was the best I have ever had. We ordered from room service quite a bit and the food was great, my only disappointment was with the selection of deserts, there were only 4 or 5 and not to my taste a wider range would be appreciated. However, there were many quality restaurants to pick from either side of the hotel to keep us satisfied. The bar fridge drinks were quite over priced compared to the newsagency prices for the same soft drink cans but this is the case with most if not all hotels. We just bought the drinks from the newsagency and kept them in the fridge ;).

The biggest downside for me was that there were fireworks going off at night near the hotel making sleep before 10pm difficult. Our daughter was able to sleep through it but it was quite annoying and loud. After speaking to a few locals we found out that this was common for the time of the year (christmas and new year) and would stop after. This wasn't the hotels fault as the fireworks are sold in the street to anyone and they cannot stop people from lighting them.

The gardens at the Puri Santrian were lush and green and well manicured and absolutely delightful to walk around and quite relaxing. The main pool was fantastic and we spent many hours there. I cannot speak highly enough of the hotel and staff and I cannot wait to go back!!!

My husband and I mid 50's were looking for a week break over Christmas and decided on Bali, not having been there in 12 years. Our travel agent recommended Puri Santrian and after many hours on Tripadvisor decided this was the place to go for a lovely holiday. We paid premium airfare prices and premium accommodation prices given it was Xmas week and were very disappointed at the old, dated "resort". We had a garden bungalow that was very old, I would say 70's style. Linen clean but old and worn, bathroom almost like an outside room with a roof, old bath and old stained tiles. The gardens were lovely as was the pool and beach cafe however there was no pool side service other than having to go yourself to the beach cafe, order what you want and they deliver to you at pool. The swim up bar was not a functioning bar, and the waiter from the Beach Cafe would pop in occassionally to see if anyone wanted a drink and go away and come back with your order some time later. For what we paid we could have gone to any of the resorts in Nusa Dua and had true 4.5 star to 5 star accommodation with modern, luxurious accommodation. I would actually rate the hotel 3.5 star. Their Beach Cafe at hotel okay for lunch, the breakfast is very good, avoid their fine dining restaurant Mazzanine as the night we went the food was dreadful and very expensive. Staff friendly, cleanliness of property 6/10, bathroom had constant smell of urine...yuk. Best restaurant is Tropical over the road from the hotel - great meals, very friendly staff and fantastic service.

Room Tip: If you get a very cheap rate on the accommodation and understand it really is only a 3.5 star hotel...

We kept walking up and down the beach looking for a good dinner spot then realized where we were staying seemed to be by far the best. Great beach vibe and food. Wonderful variety of lovely beach loungers. The food was consistently terrific even in the busy holiday season.Had several pastas, pizza, calamari and amazing caesar salad and found the red wines to be very food friendly. Food was much better than several of the recommended Italian places around town and had the plus of the great setting, comfy seating and great chill music. We stayed in a bungalow and wasn't expecting a new modern room but had HUGE semi outdoor bathroom and found the room very satisfactory and grounds were outstanding. The usual exceptional Balinese hospitality was exceeded we thought and despite the busy holiday, the beach/ food service was so smooth and efficient - very well managed.

Room Tip: We stayed in standard room then a spacious bungalow and loved the huge semi outdoor bathroom. The gr...

Cupboards creaky and missing handles
Dodgy electrical sockets

Service:
Staff always pleasant a big positive
Room cleanliness not up to standard, towels need upgrade and standard of cleaning room pretty poor (sheets smelling of nasi goreng doesn't lead into a good nights sleep)

Beautiful property and really lovely location. Great service. Fabulous pools and great eating area near beach. Sanur a lot quieter than some other parts in Bali. We noticed a lot of Europeans staying at this property. Many fantastic restaurants in the main street & great eating at resort too! Staff very heplful.
