This was stop 1 of 3 for our 3 week honeymoon in June 2013, and my oh my, we were impressed with this hotel.
We arrived late after an 18 hour flight from the U.K. but upon arrival, we were provided with a complimentary welcome drink, a little flower necklace and were shown to our room swiftly. A few minutes after we settled down, we heard a knock on the door and a little honeymoon cake had arrived to welcome us and help celebrate! We were very touched and ate it on the balcony, jet-lagged, at about 3am in Bali!
Our room was probably the worst part of the stay but was by no means bad! It was just pretty basic but had everything we needed. With gardens like those of the Hyatt, you won't be spending any time in your room anyway! The room had a balcony overlooking the ocean and gardens, bath (filled with rose petals when we arrived) and shower, hanging space for clothes and daily cleaning service with little sweets left by our pillow each day.
Breakfasts were included and were incredible. A massive buffet in a large wall-less outdoor building serving fresh Balinese fruits, pastries, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, fried noodles, pancakes, waffles, omelettes, mini muffins, fresh juices, real coffee and nice tea. Quality wasn't bad at all but perfect for filling up til mid afternoon!
The beach was attached to the gardens and was cleaned by the hotel staff everyday (sweeping leaves, drift wood etc). It was immaculate. The loungers were plentiful so no problems with lounger hoggers, and most had a sun brolly which was needed. The sun is so strong out there!
Watch out for all the beach hawkers if you go for a walk. They'll try to sell you things, but a polite 'no thanks' usually did the trick. If you go far enough up the beach to the left as you exit the hotel grounds, you'll find a turtle breeding area, where they're bred by the locals and can be seen by wandering visitors.
To the right of the hotel, still beach side, there are some reassurances where you'll find very cheap meals and drinks. The hotel prices are pretty good at £3 a beer, but the restaurants outside are half that, if not less and only 2 minutes walk down the beachside path.
You'll find cheap massages in Sanur also. We both had a 1.5 hour full body massage and facial for £6. That's for both! Sanur is busy with locals but not many tourists so it feels authentic.
The pools at the Hyatt hotel are gorgeous. One is blue and has a bar in the middle which you can swim up to for a tipple. The other is green and feels like you're swimming in a Balinese lake! Both were very clean and not too busy when we visited. There are a few ponds around the grounds too where you'll find small Monitor lizards (harmless and cute), brightly coloured dragonflies, frogs galore, especially noisy at night with their ribbetting! The grounds are so large, you can easily spend half a day exploring.
Overall, I would return to this hotel. The gardens really make it and the cocktails at the pool were particularly good, especially gingerito! Beautifully relaxing, great holiday destination!
