“Indonesian fish soup and fried”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2014

Wow great little spot, clearly hip with the Jakarta crowd but the popularity is justified...any place with only 2 dishes on the menu has got to be good, the place has character, atmosphere and great food. I'm no big fan of Indonesia's fried fish, too dry in my opinion, but this was the perfect crispy accompliment for the soup which was pleasantly sour, spicy and salty with cooked cucumber...I was lucky enough to get the head, in this case Trevally...superb! For foreigners, get over the fact there seems to be a disorganised mob pushing for space, you'll get your turn.

“Die, Die must try.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014 via mobile

Had a chance to visit Mak Beng recently.Shop like a sauna! The wait was worth every drop of sweat! The fish head soup was awesome. Fried fish can taste absolutely fresh. Would love to try and order one whole fish head just like Singapore fish head curry. Never in my life I had to eat fast as many customers are hovering around you looking for seats. Never felt so pressurise in my life abt eating when others are waiting to eat as well. Overall I felt you are not in Bali if you do not try Mak Beng first. Forget Tanah lot, Kuta n etc..Go Mak Beng first!

“Hot, hot, hot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

It is a must visit place if you happened to go to Bali. The restaurant is located in Sanur area and is very famous. I came here at 11 am to avoid the crowd and it seemed to be a good decision. By the time we finished our lunch, the crowd started to be more and more. We ordered 2 portions of Sup Kepala Ikan and 2 glasses of orange juice and 1 mineral water and we ended up paying Rp 93.000 only. This is considered cheap compared to normal places in Bali. Don't expect something fancy about this place as it is only a simple warung but the food is definitely heaven. If you are not really into spicy food, you may not want to go to this place because they only serve 1 kind of food, which is the famous fish soup and it is super spicy.
