“Lovely tranquil Balinese home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013 via mobile

Thank you to Annie, Donna, Lis and Ketuk for looking after us so well. We were very comfortable in a lovely balinese home. It felt like a home away from home, only a short walk from Sanur's main street. Everything was like clock work, every booking made on our behalf was spot on, so were the recommendations for food and massage. It's so good that we really want to keep it a hidden secret!!
We rarely stay at the same place teice, but we look forward to our next trip back to Villa Bretani.

We had 8 days including Christmas at Villa Bretani and it was great. Enjoyed having daily dips in the pool which is just big enough for a splash. The villa is in a good location, only a short (and beautiful) walk to the main street where it was easy to flag down a taxi or a bemo. The quickest and most attractive way to walk was down the treed street that runs parallel to Jalan Pasar called Jalan Pungutan (from the villa turn left, first right then first left at the little shop). We found a shorter way to walk to the main street if we were going further south, passing Warung Lilla and arriving at the main street near the Uluwatu lace shop. The villa itself is pretty good, not pristine, but comfortable with two generous bedrooms each with a large attached bathroom and walk-in wardrobe and a third, separate smaller bedroom also with ensuite. Some of the sliding doors into the bedrooms and bathrooms were quite difficult to open and close, especially for the children.
Lis and Ketut cooked us great nasi goreng and mie goreng everyday. Lis was very helpful and kind and really added to the Villa Bretani experience. We liked the fact that the villa is amongst local houses and we found Sanur very easy, friendly and relaxed with some great restaurants (3 Monkeys, Kayu Manis, Lilla Warung, The Porch, Mona Lisa, Komilfo), good shopping (Hardys is our favourite) and some good spas (Glo and Cosmo Spa) - all within walking distance.
Other reviewers have commented on the villa being large. Two of the bedrooms are large but the living/dining area is relatively small, being quite narrow. The lounge room area wasn't comfortable for a family of 5 to watch a movie.
There are a few maintenance issues which could easily be fixed - some of the decking near the pool equipment shed was quite rotten. Also, when it rains (we visited in rainy season), a lot of water comes into the villa from the deck under the smaller glass door. This is OK if you know about it, but take care because the wet tiles are extremely slippery.

We just returned back to Perth tonight after 10 nights at villa bretani. We are a family of 6 and being a 3 bedroom villa there was plenty of space for us all. The service we had was first class. We had beautiful breakfasts cooked for us each morning by lis and ketut and they always kept the villa very clean. Nothing was too hard for them to make our stay enjoyable and our children loved them. The location is very good in a little quite area a couple of minutes walk to the main street of sanur. We had scooters and found it very convenient to get around. All in all was a very enjoyable stay and would highly recommend.

A beautiful property close to shops and food but secluded enough to feel like an oasis. The property itself had everything we needed and the pool was always welcome. The breakfasts cooked every day for us by two wonderful ladies were a perfect way to start to the day. The kids loved the house and the pool and the kindness of Liz & Ketut. This was one of the most enjoyable and easiest family holidays I have been on. We will be back.

We stayed at Villa Bretani in October and we cannot stop talking about how rejuvenating and fun our trip to Bali was. Villa Bretani is the perfect mix of luxury, relaxation and fun. The wonderfully lavish accommodation is ideal for families or couples wanting an escape from the Bali hustle and bustle but within walking distance to the delights of Sanur. We were spoilt by the wonderful Lis and Katut who looked after us beautifully. Our daughter fell and love with them both and their care and help meant that our holiday was all the more relaxing.

The Villa is in the perfect location, not too far from Sanur Beach and the main restaurant strip but just enough distance away to feel like you were in your own little paradise. The Villa is fully equipped with everything you need - the use of a mobile phone, great stereo, Wi-Fi and everything else you could possibly want. There was ample room for our two families and the kids were occupied the whole time.

The kids had their first swim before seven and were all in and out of the beautiful pool until dinner time when we would wonder down to Sanur restaurants on the main street or at the beach. Forget trekking to Jimbaran Bay, Sanur’s beach front restaurants are fantastic.

Special thanks to Annie. She is truly wonderful. She made our holiday so easy and nothing was too much trouble. We felt relaxed, safe and looked after and we will definitely stay at Villa Bretani on our next trip to Bali.

We stayed five nights at the Villa in October, and it was the perfect place for our first trip to Bali. We were myself, my brother and his wife and their kids, 3 & 6, and my mother. Having a place of our own was perfect for the kids, whose enthusiasm got full (and noisy) reign. They loved spending hours in the pool each day, and we never had to tell the to calm down or get out of other guests' way. It was great having Lis over each morning to make us breakfast. And I loved the location, down a quiet side street among locals going about their business (a gamelan orchestra practiced a few doors down most nights - just great), and close to the night market, where you can get a fabulous chicken satay. Shops, bars, restaurants and the beach were a short walk away, but it was so easy to get away from the hassle and noise when we'd have enough of other tourists, or pleas to buy something or get a massage.
There's only one reason this villa might not work for you - because there isn't much of a sound/light barrier between the bedrooms and the living area, early-to-bed light sleepers (or late wakers) may struggle if their friends and family want to be up and about and noisy when they're in bed. This wasn't a problem for us - we just went and sat by the pool to chat once the kids had gone to bed.

We stayed at Villa Bretani for 14 nights.
It is a lovely Villa located in a village with a 5 minute walk to the main road. We loved the village location and made friends with Made (THE Ice-Cream Man) and waved to many locals each night on our way out to dinner.
The Villa is lovely and clean. The pool was wonderful. It was cool and completely safe thanks to locking bi-fold doors to keep our children safe when inside.
The true stars of Villa Bretani are Annie, Lis and Ketut. We exchanged emails with Annie leading up to our stay and she reassured us and made us feel stress free. Lis and Ketut are the staff at the Villa and we fell in love with Lis. She is such a beautiful person and nothing was too much trouble.
We were two families of 4 people each and so we needed a place to stay to fit us all in, we needed some room for the children to run around and be kids, we required breakfast, we needed Airport transfers and we needed something within our budget.
Villa Bretani ticked all the boxes and we are so grateful we got to stay at this lovely place.
Thank you so much Annie, Lis and Ketut for making our two week stay very special.
