“Location Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2014

This is the 3rd time we have stayed here over the last 5 years and the main reason for staying here is the beachfront location and the fact it still retains a Balinese feel to it. The hotel is over 30 yrs old however they are making improvements all the time. We stayed in a superior room on the southern side on the first floor, rm 36. The room was light and spacious with a large balcony. The bathroom had been remodelled and flat screen TV installed. The downside was the water pressure in the shower, took about 5 minutes to heat up and then pressure decreased to a trickle. Electric jug with coffee and tea supplied. Air conditioner worked well. Rooms on 1st floor allow for more privacy and natural light. May not be suitable for people who don't like climbing stairs, 20 in total. Downstair rooms of similar design but not as much natural light. Hotel was quiet during our stay so did not have trouble getting a sunlounge on the beach or around the pool. The hotel has bikes for rent which is a recent addition. Breakfast was adequate , fresh fruit , eggs of choice and a couple of Indonesian choices, location of restaurant overing looking the beach made up for the lack of choice. Can't comment on restaurant meals in the evening as choose to eat else where as there are some good restaurants on the main street. I had to go to reception to use WIFI as speed in the restaurant was really poor. We paid AUD $102.50 per night which was reasonable for the location.

First of all, it took a dozen email and two phone calls to reserve a room - they insisted we went through Bali Go Tours but it was incredibly inefficient. When we finally managed to book, the price was 20% more than advertised. The room itself was fine, but there was no hot water. The breakfast is below average with limited offerings. The pool is small and overcrowded. The only redeeming feature is the location on the beachfront at Sanur. While we love the Sanur area, this hotel is below standard for the price. We found another great little boutique hotel - Villa Sari - practically next door and at half the price.

We liked this hotel beacause of the excellent location, clean rooms and nice staff. The garden is pretty and the room was nice with a terrace.
A bit expensive though, I think it is because of the good location.

The location is good right on the beach and on a quite part of it. However the hotel is very old with poor maintenance. Shampoo is not given in the rooms and breakfast is average. Staff is nice. Ok hotel if less expansive. Paid 120usd the room! Far overpriced.

We spent 6 nights here in a superior room on the 1st floor. The superior rooms are closer to the beach than the standard. There is a pathway and garden running down to the beach with rooms located either side. The 1st night we stayed in a upstairs room on the left hand side of the pathway which was smaller and darker compared to the same class of room on the right hand side. We moved to the other side the following day and was more than happy with the room. Spacious, clean with a roomy balcony to sit out on and good natural lightening during the day. If you prefer a ground floor room there is no difference in size. Some of the rooms have a shower over the bath and others a shower recess. Jug, tea and coffee were provided. Breakfast was buffet, fruit, pastries, Indonesian and an egg station. We did eat at the restaurant 1 night and was not overly impressed with the food, there are plenty of cafes on the street to choose from. This hotel is of a more traditional Balinese style with lovely wooden carved doors and windows situated in a great location for Sanur being on the beach and close to many eateries. The hotel is making improvements to the place, they changed the canvas on the beach umbrellas while we were there and noticed other minor things being done. For the price we paid we considered it to be very good value and will be returning.

We moved from the Bumas to this hotel to try and enjoy the rest of our honeymoon, what an amazing hotel it was. They were so friendly on arrival and offered to show us the rooms before we made our decision to stay. The grounds are pretty and very well kept, the rooms are standard and well kept, water bottles provided each day. Breakfast was brilliant, right next to the beach over looking the sea, good choice to choose from which varied each day. The staff in the restaurant are amazing and the food at lunch and dinner was very nice (good price). I can't say a bad word about this place, we loved our stay here and would definitely look to go back.

We moved to Vila Shanti after first staying at Peneeda View Hotel, about 1 km south, which was charming, with big bright rooms, but it was too isolated for our liking. Vila Shanti lacked that charm, possibly being quiet fancy in the 70's with it's maroon marble and dark brown furniture. The room we stayed in was freshly painted, but dark and dingy. The bathroom is was a big let-down: small, dirty and worn out. I read that they have started renovating bathrooms on the property and I hope this will somehow make the rooms more appealing. On the plus side the room was big enough for our small family (2 adults & a 4 year-old), with enough space for a single bed and ample storage. The outside veranda area was ideal for us, with two seats and space to leave wet bathers and toys. Having a room on the ground floor gave our son plenty of opportunity to explore the lovely garden, while being able to keep an eye on him. The service at Vila Shanti was good, when we asked for a kettle first and later some matches, they were delivered immediately. The cleaning staff was friendly, hand working and left little touches like fresh flowers on our beds (and on either side of our sons Teddy) which made us feel welcome and special. They were particularly nice to our son, who enjoyed interacting with the gardeners as well. The swimming pool was good, with a shallow play area for kids. The pool area is well appointed, with ocean glimpses, restaurant service and life gamelan music every other afternoon, which was lovely. It could do with more sunbeds and some shade. The restaurant was ok, but not great. The breakfast buffet was good, with plenty of choice. The menu card was a bit lack lustre and the Indonesian dishes not authentic enough for our liking. On the last day we had a Nasi Goreng that actually had some oomph to it. They had a different chef on that day, hoorah! Unfortunately it turned out the chicken sate was raw, yuk! Luckily there are plenty of other restaurant options around in Sanur. Lastly: We were relieved the staff at reception didn't do the double converting trick they have pulled on us in other Bali hotels, when paying the bill in Rupiahs. It's a shame you have to worry about such things, when holidaying in Bali. All in all we had a lovely stay in Vila Shanti and would consider returning in the future. I would like to make a special mention here to the newly opened little café in front of the Laghawa Beach Hotel (few 100 meters south along the beach path), nice affordable coffee (Rp28) and ice cream (try the espresso flavour!) on a nice quiet corner of the beach. Also, for a great Balinese massage go to Teratai, just outside the hotel on the main road, to the left. They are slightly more pricey, but it is well worth paying $2 extra for. Well trained staff, nicely presented, clean premises, plus you can take a shower after your massage to wash of the oil, which I thought was fabulous! The spa at the hotel is average and too pricey, but is nice for a foot massage with a beautiful view.

Room Tip: Have a look at several rooms, because some are in a better state then others. Particularly the bathr...
