“Enjoy the stay but the room could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

Friendly and warm service : The owner of the hotel will talk to her customers personally. She even gave Dot a container full of animal figurines to play with and Dot was very happy playing with them.

Superior room : A simple, no-fuss and clean room. I did not sleep well on the bed as it kept making creaky sound every time we turned our bodies. One of nights, an animal was moving and scratching on our roof, making so much noise that I could hardly sleep. Though the room is air-conditioned, Dot was bitten by mosquitoes while we were sleeping.

Food: The food is generally salty and sweet for our taste.

Special request: On the second day, Dot requested for porridge and as porridge is not available in the menu, we requested the hotel kitchen to cook specially for her and they willingly cooked a bowl of delicious porridge that made Dot asked for more.

Ambience: I love the cosy and verdant garden and pool.

Laundry: It only costed us RP 30,000 to wash 16 pieces of clothes.

Everything at Melamun was perfection. We were warmly greeted upon arrival, shown right to our room (comfortable, spotless and spacious). The staff were warm and went above and beyond to help with anything they could. The grounds, including pool, were impeccable and a truly relaxing, tranquil place (with free coffee/tea on request). The food was excellent (fresh snapper for dinner was one of my favorite meals in LIFE) and the location incredibly close to the beach. Our stay was absolute perfection and the only thing I would change is to have had more time!

What a fabulous hotel , would be very hard to find a better one in lovina. Only 2 minutes walk to the beach. The good size airconditioned rooms are clean with the linen changed daily. The tropical plants are a pleasing feature and the swimming pool a bonus. Sue was there to give a friendly welcome and is to be seen around most of the time and was there to answer any questions. The staff are so friendly , smile all the time and do everything to make sure you have a great stay. I would highly reccomend you stay here if going to lovina.

Room Tip: i stayed in 102 but i am sure all rooms are as good.

On am 18 night trip, our 3 nights at Melamun were by far our favourite. I stayed with my teenage daughter, weboth agrree that we could have stayed another week. It was so relaxing, reading by the pool, swimming. The staff were so friendly, Susie so informative and welcoming. We ate at the hotel often and the food was great. We were driven into Lovina Central whenever we asked and were also picked up - it felt like we were staying with family, we were very lookd after and I can not wait to return.

We had a nice stay at Hotel Melamun. The staff were friendly and helpful and the Manager Suzy was lovely. Having said that, the hotel is about 10 minutes drive from Central Lovina so one is at the mercy of touts for hiring motorbikes. The hotel has a nice swimming pool. It is a nice, small property with a nice feel to it.

Room Tip: Select one of the pool facing rooms

We (2 persons) stayed in this wonderful hotel for four nights on our Lovina leg of our two weeks trip to Bali in low season April 2012. We transferred to Lovina from Sanur and the staff of Melamun fixed the transportation for us door to door on a really competitive price. I even had to double check from them that the price includes both of us and the luggage, that cheap we felt it was. The driver fetched us early in the morning, we stopped at a coffee plantation and on a couple of views (including some monkeys) and the room was ready on our arrival. You should really ask for their transportation where ever you are going as the prices are really competitive and the drivers good.

There are some restaurants on the same street with the hotel but we never ate in any of those (have no idea why not, looked pretty good). The hotel offers a free shuttle service to the center and back but we actually only opted for it twice on our way to the center. If you want to take a walk it’s some 20 minutes one way if you take it easy. It’s better for you to decide by your own if the route is interesting or not by taking it at least once. For us the walk was quite ideal and we took it every night after dinner. You might want to bring your torch along though. The street lighting is just adequate but the sidewalk is paved with holes so better play it safe. Walking beach side is a onetime experience only but be sure to catch the sunset.

We found the tours that Hotel Melamun offers interesting and they were flexible in modifying the sightseeing based on our interests. The driver added his own stops based on our wishes to see the countryside and we even visited a small heavenly scenting clove oil distillery where three men were keeping the fire hot and an eye on the container not to blow up. Wood carving, silk weaving, silver smith shops near Ubud where they give you a quick demonstration on their work flow and guide you to a shop are nothing compared to this experience. You can’t buy anything from the distillery. We are sure this is not included in any tourist itinerary and might not even be of interest to everybody. The drivers the hotel used were fabulous and it was also interesting to hear their stories of life in Indonesia. The tours had to be arranged a night before but a jukung captain picked us up for a snorkelling trip in a couple of minutes as we asked for this opportunity in the morning. The snorkelling in front of Lovina is not as good as it is for example in Sanur not to mention Menganjan Island. Menganjan Island diving or snorkelling trips can be arranged from multiple dive shops in Kalibukbuk. Might be bit expensive but worth every rupiah.

The hotel is actually quite modern and because of the low season they upgraded our room to much larger than what we had paid for. The bathroom was really large and both rooms spotless. The room also contained an AC and a fridge which is handy to fill from the small shops down the road. And they actually provided us with new water bottles daily. The breakfast was included and we basically ate different pancakes (also other options available) with refreshing fruit juices every morning. They also serve lunch and dinner at their restaurant and we once ate a quick lunch with basic Nasi and Mie goreng dishes.

The pool area is great with a pool bar (pretty much unmanned at the time) although we only used it once during sunshine and once in a heavy pouring rain (magnificent). If it starts raining and you are at the hotel don’t waste your time. Change into your trunks/bikinis and get in there, it can be over before you think. The towels are provided by the house and only the mattresses of the sun chairs are a bit worn out. The pool is actually long enough to make couple of strokes in the morning if that is your fancy.

The staff and the owner of the Hotel Melamun are the best we have ever encountered. A certain level of service and a welcoming feeling is what you should take for granted in a service business but somehow they made us feel especially welcome. Every time we came back to the hotel they were offering us tea or coffee. A lovely stay and if we are ever to return to Lovina we will definitely stay again.

If you have been to Aquaria in Candissa, you will also love here. It is the same high standards, great staff, wonderful pool, good meals, small, intimate, friendly, loved the free rides to the main part of town,
good internet (was traveling with kids 22 & 24 yrs old, had to have the "net") close to good places to eat, the beach, great pool, rooms & bathrooms clean and appointed. The kids wanted to stay longer.
We also checked out other places to stay, and would say this place is at the top of the list.
Thanks to the staff for totally making our stay.

Room Tip: Loved the large room by in front of the pool, however, any room is excellent.
