“Quiet and Nice Environment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2010

There is a lot of information on the internet regarding the many hotels and villas in Bali.
It can be confusing and rather overwhelming if this is your first visit to Bali. I have stayed in Sanur and Kuta before (with my husband). Initially we were deciding between Seminyak and Ubud villas. After consulting with the tour agent in Singapore, we decided on a more family-oriented hotel , Novetel Nusa Dua(which is a mix of both hotel and villas). We stayed in the 2-bedroom hotel suite with a private pool. It is spacious and clean and has a nice Balinese ambience with some modern decor. The whole place is well thought of. The great thing about the hotel is that there is a private beach (which my daughters (age 14, 17 and 9 years old) enjoyed. Although the beach is not near to the hotel, you can plan according to the timing of the shuttle service. The food is nice and the staff are very very friendly. The spa is relaxing and for family with young children, they have many activities planned out. The concept is a little like Club Med but not that full-scale. They have activities for adults like power-walking, yoga etc. There is Bali Collections (a range of retail shops, SOGO, restaurants) near to the hotel. There is a shuttle that picks you up every one hour)

We did water sports in Tanjong benoa (a must if you love water sports like jet ski, fish flying, parasailing, snorkeling) and also the turtle island is worth the visit too. We also go the Kalimantan for the volcano and hot spring. On the way back we visited Ubud and Batubatan for some paintings and stone carvings. Shopping in Kuta (in fact most shops in Bali) can be quite stressful as you need to bargain. We used to love this but after a while it gets tiresome.
Watch the sun set in Jimbaran Bay is a must too.
The next time if we visit Bali, we would like to go to the Safari Park, Water Bom in Kuta (new with all the water slides and they look really exciting)

If you are staying more than 5 nights in Bali, we would recommend that at least 2-3 nights in Nusa Dua and if you are traveling up to Ubud/Kalimantan, It would be wise to stay in Ubud for 2 days. Novetel is definitely a great hotel to choose and the security is great. Before entering the whole stretch of hotels, there is a check point for security check. When you reach the hotel, there is another check. You feel that is quite safe. We even took a morning jog around the area. The place is really clean.

I would say the overall experience in the hotel and the surrounding compound is great.

We stayed at the Novotel Nusa Dua during May. This was our first trip to Bali and we travelled with a friend and our 2 year old. The resort itself was very nice and catered to all our needs. Staff communicated well with us and the breakfast staff also began to know our daughter by name, which was nice. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with its own private pool. The room was well set out and very large. It had a full sized fridge as well as cooking facilities and sink, plates, cutlery etc. The resort also has a Circle K (like a 7 eleven) on its grounds which made it easy to purchase snacks, drinks etc. The pastry shop is delicious and we highly recommend. Breakfast daily was very good, large selection of hot food as well as fruits and cereals and of course eggs cooked while you wait.
The main pool at the resort is also very nice but we did not need to use it as we had our own.
Nusa Dua is easy and safe to get around, the Bali Collection is a 15minute stroll from the resort which was nice to walk there for dinner and then catch the free shuttle bus back to the resort. The resort also offers a free shuttle bus to their private beach, it runs approx every half an hour so there is no hassle getting to and from the beach (which is very nice). We were very pleased with our stay at the Novotel Nusa Dua and would definatley recommend this hotel to others especially with children as the 2 bedroom apartments are worth it.

Have just returned from 9 days with our 9 month old and nearly 3 year old daughters. Wonderful spacious 2 bedroom accomodation that was faultlessly cleaned each day. Staff were fantastic and knew our children by name. Kids club staff very friendly and caring and great with children of all ages, although possibly geared more to younger children rather than late primary schoolers. (perfect for our needs) The hotel was in walking distance to Bali Collection for meals and shopping and even closer to the local village located just outside the south gate for meals, convenience stores and most importantly massage! The spa within the hotel was wonderful and reasonably priced. As we have young children, the kitchen facilities within our apartment was great as was the room service. Beach lovers may find the shuttle to the beach a bit of a draw back, however for us with a sand eating baby the pool was a better option. We had a fantastic time and thank the wonderful staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

We stayed here with our Accor Timeshare for 10 nights . The resort is beautiful. We had the buffet breakfast each morning, lovely location near the pool. When the kids had finished eating they went off and played table tennis until we were finished. We used to take our laptop to the resturant to check emails etc. It is free to use there and another couple of locations through out the resort. They have two free macs at reception for you to use if you dont have one. We had a room with its own pool - absolutely awesome. The Novotel beach is a must to visit. The trip down there in the open bus takes less than 5 minutes. Would recommend this resort to any families.

After having read shaggy Bs recent review we felt compelled to respond.

We've just returned from 7 nights in a 2 bed /2 bathroom apartment at the novatel Nusa Dua with 2 childen under 5 and have very few complaints. Were a little apprehensive as this was our first time booking online via AsiaRooms.

Arrived at 10pm and were greeeted with cold drinks & cold towels. Check in very efficient and luggage taken care of immediately. Apartment was very spacious with huge master ensuite, rainwater showerhead, deep bath, seperate kitchen, living/dining, full size fridge, 2 flat screens, dvd player, outdoor dining table, King size bed. We did have an issue with the aircon in the children's bedroom as the temp was set higher. We called the front desk and within 5 min a technician was sent around and the problem resolved

Breakfast was the usual vast spread that covered all bases including eggs cooked to order. A nice touch was the kids buffet table set at their height so they could help themself to pastries, fruit skewers, drinks, etc. Service was fine but a little slow to replenish items however the restaurant was always busy at breakfast time.

Grounds are well maintained. Staff very friendly. Room service fairly prompt. No Pool bar and flagging staff down to order drinks poolside was a little difficult as the pool is essentially unattended by wait staff.

Pool is split level, infinity edged with several "islands" with ledges for sitting. Daily water aerobics classes were fun and entertaining

Free shuttle service to bali collection every hour where there is plenty of restaurant choices. Had lunch & diner at 2 different places and food was good. Very reasonably priced but very uncomforatable humidity even for seasoned bali travellers like us.

Free shuttle service to private beach every 15min but we never made it as we don't go to Bali for beaches

Kids club was free and well staffed with enthusiastic and motivated attendants. The club had planned activities ( e.g balinese dress ups/dance lesson) which was great. Toddler pool close by & few items of playground equiupment.

Only drawback was distance. So long as you accept that you're 25-30min drive to Kuta (70000rp taxi) & 40-45min to seminyak (105000 rp) you will enjoy it. Staff will encourage you to use their (expensive) transport but they're always happy to call for a metered taxi.

Conceirge was helpful in making dinner reservations, confirming day trips, etc. Free 20min of internet near reception. Gym looked good with planned daily fitness classes, etc. Spa expensive so we used "Toya" spa in Nusa Dua booked through Bali Success Tours.

Also used the Tour Co for 1/2 day trips to 1) Padang Bay for a 45min submarine trip 2) Turtle island via glass bottom boat and 3) Family pass at waterbom Park (a little cheaper than paying there)

Highly recommended if you want more space and don't plan on travelling to Kuta & Seminyak much

Just back from Novotel Nusa Dua and I have to say that I was severely disappointed with the service, cost and location after coming from a much smaller but excellent boutique hotel in Kuta...

Following are my main complaints -
1) Currently construction is going on in the adjacent property and hence there is loud noise. Why then sell these rooms out? After 3 phone calls and complaining at the front desk we were given another room.

2) Rooms are old and I observed leaks close to the A/C vents in both rooms.. not quite what you expect from 5 star resorts

3) Beach Club is quite a fair distance away and I cannot understand why the shuttle cannot be more frequent.. we had to wait for 15 minutes even though we were the only ones going to the beach... the beach itself is not as nice as advertised.. or maybe the quality of sand has deteriorated since the photo was taken :-) The beach club is small and pathetic...

4) I had asked for a multi-pin adaptor and I was told they were out of it. I wanted to rent/borrow a DVD player and again same answer.. we are out of it.. no one bothered to take down my request and get back the next day..

5) Food was pricey.. SPA treatments were 4 times the cost outside.. Car rental was almost 5 times more expensive then what they charge you outside the enclave which is a 5-6 minute walk from the hotel..

6) The design of the pools left a lot to be desired.. we had to walk a serious long way from the pool to fetch towels which was at the other end.. Food service at the pool was also slow..

7) Last but not the least, the day we were leaving a guy came at 9.30 in the morning to check our mini-bar !!!! I have stayed at many many hotels around the world but this is the first for any star rated hotel anywhere...

Overall this resort is meant for families looking for a cheap option in a sterile environment in an old resort... Nusa Dua by itself is not the real Bali...

Only saving grace was the breakfast which was ok.

Service was excellent, friendly staff. Check in handled quickly and efficiently. We had a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment with kitchen and living room. Loved the apartment with all that extra space. Main bathroom superb, able to lie in the bath and watch tv with a little drink, pure indulgence. All lights and appliances worked and the apartment was very clean. The included massage was just divine, relaxing looking at the little fish in the tank below while being massaged. The gym was excellent and we used it everyday. Enjoyed the buffet breakfasts, chef very obliging we wanted chilli in our omelettes and this was no trouble. The one issue with breakfast was that some guests took all the fresh fruit, yoghurt etc obviously to eat later and the staff did not do anything and the fresh fruit was not refilled. Minor complaint in the scheme of things. The small coffee shop/patisserie had an excellent selection of pastries and cakes at very reasonable prices. The beach club was fantastic, very private and nice not to be hassled by vendors. The bar at the beach club makes going to the beach very pleasant as you don't have to worry about taking cold drinks etc and you can charge to your room.
All in all oved the Novotel and will definitely come back again.
