Background of Travelers:
We chose the Kayumanis solely based on reviews from Tripadvisor and had no prior knowledge of the Bali area. It was through reading hundreds of reviews and hotels from tripadvisor that we chose Kayumanis. The biggest reason why we chose Kayumanis was because it had amazing reviews with a reasonable price. We chose to stay away from the 5 star resorts in the same area because we wanted more freedom with our stay since we did not plan any specific activities (i.e. jet skiing, water sports, etc) while we were there. Just wanted to relax and do anything and everything at any time that we so chose. We had some trepidation because there were no real "great" photos of the facilities and the Kayumanis website did not offer the same type of visual reference as I was hoping to have, so there was a lot of anticipation and worry at the time. However, if you read my review, you will see that there is absolutely nothing to worry about. We stayed a total of 3 nights.
In my opinion, the service of the Kayumanis started way before we arrived in Bali. From email correspondence, the responses were quick and polite. All the information I wanted, they gave to me within 24 hours or sooner. The communication process of asking questions (answers I could not find on tripadvisor), confirming bookings, etc. was all done within a 5 day period. This included spa treatment bookings.
When we arrived in Bali, the immigration process was a nightmare, We had not only delayed but were part of a simultaneous 5-plane landing at Bali so we had to wait in line for about 1.5 hours before leaving the airport. By now, we were both stressed and tired from our travels but were happy to be met with pickup service.
Bayu, our personal butler (all villas have a personal butler), met us at the check in counter and walked us through the entire villa, showing us all the services and information. The process was seamless and very professional. They gave us free honeymoon cake and a honeymoon keepsake (soap) even though we did not order the "honeymoon package" which was something very thoughtful and unnecessary to do.
The Kayumanis staff came in during the times we were away and prepared our villa for the evening, turning down the blinds, turning on the lamps, lighting the incense mosquito repellent, laying bath robes on the bed, putting down the bed veils that repels mosquitoes, placing extra mosquito repellent incense in the outdoor bathroom areas, reorganizing the pillows in the living room sofa, etc. (you get the point). They would come into the villa whenever we weren't and made the place perfect again.
There was one time were we had accidentally pulled out one of the blinds from the windows out of its socket and I called in for service and cleaning services. They arrived with an army of staff to fix the blinds, clean the entire villa (pool, bathroom, bedroom, living room, dining room) within 15 minutes of my call. I could tell that their SOP (standard operating procedures) for cleaning villas was very good and efficient. They respected all my things and always said "hello" and "goodbye" in a very warming and friendly way.
The Kayumanis also had a representative come over to check in on us during our stay and asked specifically if there were too many mosquitoes in the villa (something they obviously were not responsible for) and came to double check our reservations for spa treatments were confirmed.
Services for meals were also excellent. Within 20 minutes, they had our entire order completed (we usually had soup, appetizers, two entrees, and dessert) brought to our villa with great taste and presentation.
All villas in the Kayumanis have their own private pools. It is not large enough to swim in (approximately 3-5 strokes) but it has its own waterfall which does nicely to the ambiance. The water is very clean and does not smell of chlorine and has an infinity pool design where the ledge to the water filter area just "drops off" and is met with a lot of plants at the end of the pool.
The bedroom is connected to the bathroom and there are 3 sets of doors to enter the bedroom. All are wooden glass doors so it has a nice feel to the outdoor nature of the villa. The bed is a king size bed. As you can expect, the mattress and pillows were amazing. The ceiling is a high ceiling (20 feet or so) so it does not feel small at all. In an exclusive door to the half indoor/outdoor bathroom, it features a his/her sink with plenty of counter space, a bathtub, toilet and outdoor shower. The outdoor shower was amazing to have because at night when the lights are all turned off in the bathroom, the stars lit up the sky. Quite an amazing sight coming from the city.
In a separate area, the living/dining area was furnished with Balinese style furniture and had great space. The sofa, which we fell asleep on in the afternoons, was big enough to accommodate two adults with the view of the private pool. There was a kitchenette with a microwave and water boiler. Very cozy, very relaxed space. We spent a great deal of time there as well.
Our first evening we wandered over to the Westin "Ikan" restaurant buffet. Although it was very nice, it was a bit expensive. The next few nights, we decided to order from the Kayumanis restaurant and have it served in our villa. The menu consisted of traditional Balinese cuisine, American style snacks (burgers, hot dogs, etc.) and high-end Italian. Their Balinese food was very very good and I had the same thing twice. Highly recommended is their Tom Gong Soup (seafood soup) and Kayumanis Chicken Curry. We have both those dishes twice during our stay. The prices were reasonable for the Kayumanis meals.
The breakfast menu was the best menu I have ever seen. Allowed to be ordered once a day, but at ANY time of day, the menu consisted of juices, fruits, egg dishes, breads/sandwiches, Balinese noodles and fried rice, and crepes. We tried everything on the menu and loved it all. In particular, the eggs benedict, truffle eggs, Balinese Fried Noodles and Rice were our personal favorites. On the second day, we woke up late and had "breakfast" in the early afternoon and it was a perfect meal.
Kayumanis has a private beach area that is next to the Westin facility. Because we went during low season and there were very few guests, a total of maybe 15 people we saw on the beach during our time there. I'm not sure what it looks like during high season, but the entire Nusa Dua beach felt like ours and was amazing. The sand was great service was wonderful and they had the typical comfortable sun bathing chairs. They have a staff member in their beach that gave us a buggy ride back to the villa while also providing water (charged to your room) and towels. The beach is approximately a 5 minute walk from the villa which is perfectly close.
The spa experience was also an amazing one. We had the Signature Kayumanis Massage (1.5 hours) and Relaxing Massage (2 hours) (there is a huge list of services they have from their spa which can be requested in PDF form via email) and it was the best massages we've had. The professionalism and skills of the masseuses were wonderful and it ended with a relaxing cup of home-brewed ginger tea (we asked to buy the tea but they said they brewed it themselves.) Before each spa appointment, they came to greet us at our villa and escorted us to the massage facility (although you can choose to have the massage in your own villa).
Overall, the Kayumanis is a great place. It has the best service, best location, and great food. If you are looking to relax, go at your own pace, Kayumanis is an easy choice. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine care for the personal needs of the customer can really be felt during our time there. We want to thank Kayumanis for giving us such a wonderful experience, and rest assured, we will be returning to the Kayumanis at Nusa Dua.
