“Luxury Hotel in Nusa Dua Bali”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

The moment I stepped inside the hotel, there was one thing in my mind: this is huge!!! Yes, The Mulia is so huge that one might get lost in it. You won't get the Balinese ambiance in this hotel. It is a luxury hotel, from the lobby to the room and to every corner of the hotel.

We had a smooth check in and check out process. They provided a wet towel and welcome drink upon our arrival.

The room was spacious and spotless. Everything was just so modern. Our room had a balcony which face to the arrival path. Toilet, shower and bathtub were all separated. The bed was so comfy that we had a real good night sleep there.

We had breakfast at The Cafe and it was the most sumptuous breakfast I have ever had in a hotel. I was wondering whether it is a breakfast or a dinner buffet. Normally I do not eat a lot for breakfast, but not at this one.

The Mulia has their on private beach. It was a nice clean beach. They also have more than 1 pools. All pools were very clean and well maintained.

To summarize my review, The Mulia is a luxury hotel and worth every penny you spend with what they have to offer.

I went to Bali with my dad - family holiday. Unfortunately, our travel agent highly recommended the Mulia and so we booked it for 8 nights. This was the third hotel during our stay in Bali (Jimbaran, Ubud, Nusa Dua). In comparison with the other hotels, the Mulia was just awful and very unpersonal.

When we arrived, we were very impressed - negatively - by the giant building and the exaggerated outline of the lobby. We had to wait about 2h before we could access our room. I don't really know why because we booked months ago and later we realized that we were actually nearly alone in this giga hotel. However, the room was okay (modern furniture, comfortable bed plus I really liked the full-automatic toilet :D).

During our stay, we tried several of the restaurants. All of them are pricey ($$$ category I would say; sure, this was to be expected) but the food was not too impressive. One evening, we tried the 'table 8' Chinese restaurant. We were offered a huge buffet for 380.000 Indonesian Rupiah pp. but we decided to order à la carte. Sadly, the very good looking buffet remained rather untouched since there were no guests to eat it (only 5 people including us were there). We wondered what they would do with all the food?!? Moreover, they started cleaning, spraying with Sagrotan next to our table and rearranging tables while we were still eating.

The breakfast buffet was actually very nice but one thing about it was very disappointing: the fruits they offer! The only fresh fruits you can get are 2 kinds of melon, orange and some rather not tasty looking apples. Bali has soooo much variety of fruit, why not offering them? We had way better fruit buffets at the other two hotels. The same applied to fresh vegetables (not even tomatoes or cucumber available..).

List of more unpleasant facts:

- no free water at the pool and beach (40.000 plus tax)
- when I wrapped myself in a beach-towel to grab stuff I forgot in the room I was asked to leave the towel at the beach site since it was not allowed to take it to the room.
- don't touch; don't do this, don't do that signs EVERYWHERE!
- not allowed to bring durian fruit (ok, I kind of get this one) or mangosteen fruit (?) to the hotel room, otherwise you will have to pay 250$ for excessive cleaning
- no signs of Balinese culture (no colorful offerings etc)
- expect long distances between your room, the beach and the lobby.

All in all: this hotel has rather no personality, no atmosphere, no Balinese tradition and it's just all about the cool and modern styling. Big dislike! If you are looking for a cozy stay and you want to be close to Balinese culture and people: choose a different hotel. This one might be suitable for business meetings or those who like this kind of modern, faceless buildings.

I wished we would have been able to go back to one of the other two hotels but for sure - we already paid for our stay at The Mulia.

Last thing to say: the staff at the restaurants, at the beach, the cleaning staff etc were all very kind, sweet and helpful. The rules they have to follow are surely not made by themselves.

Good situation, about 1/2 hour from the airport if not much traffic.
Beautiful grounds . Apart from security checks at main Gate there was discreet security in every area . Exceptional service from smiling staff.
Apart from restaurants and bars , there was little organised entertainment in the evenings , but in such a peaceful resort you could enjoy just sitting about.
We went out by taxi on trips .although there are a few hotels, it he area has not been taken over by tourists. Nusa is still a traditional Bali town catering for local needs..

Room Tip: If you make the effort to go to Bali ,you must get a sea view.

On arrival you cannot help but be impressed. The buildings are magnificent. The gardens and the number of swimming pools are something to behold. Our room was a The signature. Very nice. However look past the oppulance and you soon realise this is not what it claims. The mosaic tiles in the ocean pool are coming off. I actually cut my toe on a sharp one. Every evening I requested that the turn down bed service did not attend. Every night the door bell rand sometimes three times to ask if I required it. On one occasion I was dozing on the bed when woke to find a hotel employee at the end of the bed.
Every morning we had to queue for breakfast at the cafe. Simply not big enough to cater for the hotel and it wasn't full.
On our holidays we like an evening strole. There is simply no where to go. A taxi or overpriced hotel transport is required to go anywhere.
We found ourselves retiring to our room early every night simply because there is nothing to do.
The fresh fruit in the room on arrival...wasn't.

In short. Opulent. Beautiful. But falls very short on its claims. Had we not booked in for seven nights after two we would of returned to our previous hotel in Sanur. This hotel is simply large and beutiful however it has no sole. This was not just our feelings it was also the feelings of fellow Brits and Aussies. However I cannot speak for the Chinese and Koreans who this hotel seems to cater for.

Dear Bg30467,
Thank you for your review.
The Mulia Bali is the combination of three distinctive properties, Mulia Villas, Mulia Resort and The Mulia.
You stayed in the Mulia Resort although you have posted your review under The Mulia.
The Mulia is much smaller than the Resort and I have no doubt that the exclusivity of our pool and restaurant and the personalized service from our Butlers will leave you totally satisfied,
I look forward to welcome you at The Mulia next time you’re in Bali!

My husband and I returned after 2 years to The Mulia this time with our adult son. We all enjoyed a very relaxing break where we were totally spoilt with the fabulous food (especially Soleil) and the outstanding service throughout the hotel and the restaurants. This luxurious "paradise" was even better this visit with all the gardens much more established and the beach much cleaner. We love the Earl suite with fabulous balcony complete with jacuzzi overlooking the ocean and the beds and pillows are the most comfortable ever! We enjoyed a massage at the Spa but didn't think it was particularly good value.

Room Tip: We love the rooms with ocean views
