“Fantastic hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2010

We spent our last 3 night in Bali at The Balé. What a way to end our holiday!
On arrival, the architecture of the building is a real eyecatcher. It's very modern and open.
When our butler took us to our room, we had a pleasant surprise as we were upgraded to a single deluxe pavilion(room 30).
A large swimmingpool, daybed, huge bedroom with tv/dvd, big bathroom with bathtub and tv, indoor and outdoor shower, that's real deluxe!
Our first evening, we dined in the hotel's restaurant called Faces. Very fine cuisine, and they also serve excellent mocktails!
For breakfast/lunch and dining, you have the choice of eating in your pavilion or in Faces.
Breakfast is not in buffet, but there's a big choice in ordering.
The minibar in the pavilion has complimentary softdrinks (2x Sprite, 2x Coke, 2x Coke light, 2x soda) and the rest has to be paid for. This is a real BIG plus!
The staff is very attentive and we felt like family to them. After 3 days, it felt like we knew them for months.
If you want to go to the beach, there's a shuttle service by the hotel which brings you in about 2 minutes to the Geger Beach Club, runned by The Balé.
There's also a shuttle service into Nusa Dua and Jimbaran, just ask at the desk in the lobby.
We also had a 15min. welcome massage. You can choose between a footmassage or a shouldermassage. It felt great!
Overall, a great experience in a stunning setting. Compliments to Jose Luis Calle and his team!

We stay at the suite with BIG outdoor pool & day bed!!!

In summary,

" The + " :
- very friendly and super nice services, one night we were running out of cash to pay our taxi fare. The staff run out and help us to pay and said that they could simply charge on the bill,. Great a great and convenient services to make our life easy !!
- love the size of the pool which you could open the door from your bathroom and jump into it !
- lovely big day bed
- the room and the outdoor area is lovely size
both bath tub and outdoor shower were great : D
- you have to take a 2 minutes (via resort golf car) to the beach. However the staffs and the beach are nice there. We stay there everyday !! We see other hotel guests play beach tennis , not disturbing at all, its' kind of little fun added . it's kind of see and to been seen in a way ... The beach wasn't overly crowded which is great.
- and we could also wondering around the beach where there are other cute little bar on the cliff at the end.
- white sandy beach is nicer than the black volcano sandy beach
- great and healthy food & drinks menu !! many varieties

"The - " :
- a bit too far from the other places, like 30-45 minutes ride to town. Well this is the trade-off if you want to stay at Nusa Dua
- the location is not super great
- nothing really WOW other than my above " + "
- slight pricey
- the toilet amenities are not great (as they emphasis naturally ingredient only), so girls, please bring your own if possible

I had a great stay and thank you to all the staffs there.

I am upating my pofile and reviews and wanted to leave a comment on The Bale. It's been almost 4 years since stayed there so i can't give an accurate description, but overall this hotel remains as one of the best hotels we've stayed in.
Attention to details, good staff, privacy, architecture, food, it's all perfect.
One regret: the beach is 15 min away.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to write about your fantastic experience during your stay with us four years ago and your fond memories haven’t faded.

Since your last visit we have done a tremendous amount of changes: adding nine more luxurious deluxe single pavilions in 2007 and refurbished the original 20 single pavilions the year after mainstreaming the theme throughout the resort. Faces, Spa and public areas were also enhanced as well as our beach club which is now much larger, including outdoor showers, etc. which can be enjoyed just a very short drive (probably a minute these days) across the street from the resort.

We would love to invite you to stay with us again in the near future to enjoy our upgraded and new facilities we are currently offering our guests.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience and look forward to welcoming you back very soon!

With warm regards

I have the opportunity to travel all over the world and can honestly say that my last stay in Bali was my favorite. I stayed a very very nice property named the Bale. Here are some of the comments that I would like to share:

Service, always greeted with a smile and by our first name, nothing was to much to ask.
F&B all meals eaten in the restaurant were world class, we enjoyed both a candlight dinner, as well as an in Pavillion BBQ. Breakfast menu was creative and no limitations on what we could have. The chef was fantastic and was always available to speak with.

The Spa offered a number of treatments we weren't familiar with most, Ayu the spa manager recommended the Crystal Healing treatment, unbelievable, we were left in a euphoric state the rest of the afternoon laying around at our pool villa.

We were greeted by the general manager on our arrival, Jose, and as well as when we departed, what a personal touch!! He was easily approachable for any island suggestions.

I have stayed at other 5 star hotels in the area but none were as nice. My only issue was that I would have like to have stayed longer but they were totally booked!

Great place can't wait to go back.

The Bale really does let you get away from it all. the staff are fantastic, the restaurant very good and the privacy in the villas is amazing. Add to that the fact that there are no under 16s allowed and it all adds up to the perfect break.
Two small things I'd change...
1. get some sort of iPod friendly sound system for the villas.
2. install decent size fridges or at least ones that work to save having to call for ice several times a day.

2nd stop for my 1-week honeymoon. after the brand-new and chic Alila Soori, The Bale was a reality check. As the resort was about 10-yrs old, understandably, the pavilions were a little tired looking. Kudos to the staff, who upon sensing my disappointment, promptly upgraded me to the Deluxe Pool Pavilion, which was a recent addition to The Bale. The butler ensured that our stay was well looked after... kudos for their efforts!

Faces, the restaurant, is excellent! The Spa's setting is ordinary... but the masseurs are well skilled. As expected from a SLH resort, service standard is friendly and attentive. Jose is a good guy too, always listening for feedback.

Overall, a pleasant stay, but there are many other resorts of the same class out there, which can offer more.

Dear Waterina,

Many thanks for your review on your recent stay at The Bale. We always look forward to constructive comments such as yours to continually improve our resort.

We spoke during your recent visit at The Bale when one of our team members had accidentally assigned you to a villa that had not gone through our annual refurbishment at that time.

Our villas go through a complete refurbishment process annually between the months of January and March. Each villa is upgraded to maintain the highest standard of quality and prepare for our busy months ahead. I feel awful that you were wrongly allocated to one of the villas still scheduled for the refurbishment. However, I am glad that we realized our mistake promptly and allocated you to one of the deluxe villas that had just been refurbished.

Rest assured that this was only a small confusion. We are committed to continual improvements to our property and intend to renew the condition of the resort each year during the low season.

Our villas and public areas are continually maintained and upgraded to ensure that The Bale, despite its age, remains one of Bali’s favorite boutique resorts.

Many thanks again and look forward to welcoming you both very soon.

This hotel is very private.
Definitely one of the best hotel from my experience.
I was there for 10 nights so breakfast was getting a bit boring but ...
I love the private swimming pool too.
