“Overall a good hotel, but there are better options.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

First, I would like to say the service was good, people are friendly, the facilities are VERY well kept and there are no complaints I can think of.. The reason I do not put 5 stars on this great hotel is because the construction, room, pool area, and atmosphere is a bit old fashioned and soon they will probably need to renovate to compete with newer and more modern resorts popping up every day. Also, the place is SOO BIG that it takes a long time to walk from one place to the other in the resort which makes it a bit confusing to find your place and inconvenient. Again, people are very friendly and willing to give you directions and even walk you to your place when you get lost.. So it is not about service, rather the construction and feeling of the place itself.

Great and friendly spot for kids and families, we preferred and loved several times the rooms with club privileges including more privacy inside the big hotel complex. Every time a pleasure to come back to Bali and Grand Hyatt to have a break from Jakarta!

Room Tip: book room with club privileges including 5 o-clock like a (small) dinner and other conveniences

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Nusa Dua on vacation. We stayed there for 5 days. I expected to give it a 5 star rating, but have to limit it to 4 stars, only because the property's rooms seem to require maintenance and upkeep. I had a broken shower knob and a broken sink tap. It took nearly 36 hours to fix it. The restaurants being open and being tropical, you should expect flies to be everywhere. They are everywhere, and the staff do a good job. However, I am not sure if they have done everything possible. Particularly people should be weary of eating in restaurants where flies are there everywhere.

The staff lived up to expectations of a very hospitable people. We needed an extension to our stay and the hotel was running full due to a conference. However the manager on duty (Mudita? sorry I probably am misspelling the name) went out of his way to accomodate us. That capped our wonderful and pleasant experience in Bali.

Will I stay there again? Yes.

Room Tip: If you are a vegetarian, things are a little tough. But that is to be expected. However, if you like...

We stayed for 4 nights in May 2013. The resort is huge and set in well maintained grounds with beautiful gardens, pools and fish ponds. The advantage of a big resort is a wide choice of restaurants and swimming pools, but on the negative side it is a long walk to get places, which although we enjoy walking, in the May humidity is not fun. The open air plaza directly across the road from the hotel has a wide choice of restaurants, shops and bars which is an added benefit.

Our room in the west village (as far from the beach as you can get) was very clean and comfortable, but the bathroom could do with an upgrade (we noticed that the rooms in north village were being renovated which is good to see). We had a small balcony with a garden view which was pleasant, however the oceanview rooms are definitely preferable.

The breakfasts are good with a wide variety of food, however the venue was understaffed and service thus a bit slow. We also had a few lunches and dinners at the hotel which were very good. The service in general is excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful.

The negatives: 1) The hotel charges USD20 per day for wi-fi, which is a rip off but also seldom works. On check-out the reception manager graciously reversed all charges as we were so annoyed; 2) We spent some time at the Balinese feature pool, which is a lovely, quiet pool away from the crowds, but unfortunately the area is not well maintained - the adjacent jacuzzi pools are dirty and the wood loungers are faded, peeling and some broken (note: two were taken for repairs when we first arrived); 3) The cost of a beer on the beach is 8-10 times higher than buying one from the shop across the road (although this is typical of most high end resorts).

Overall its a nice resort, but would only go back if had ocean facing room closer to beach.

Room Tip: Ocean front or at least oceanview rooms are definitely a better option.

Stayed here for 6 nights 2A 2C, nice resort, but when we arrived (late at night) we opened the door to our room there was a mouldy smell, which was off putting but too tired to change rooms. For a 5 star resort, the rooms were dated and really need to be upgraded. Even the tap in our bathroom was loose and didn't get repaired whilst we were there. The resort is spaciuos with great pool and facilities, but the major attraction, the water slide, was closed for repairs, which we were informed of, via a letter in our room, but the length of the time to repair it continued to be extended. Still plenty to do though for the children. Breakfasts were really nice with plenty of choices. Nice staff always smiling and helpful. Could be more attentive though poolside.
Children loved feeding the squirrels and the fish in the mornings.
Overall a nice hotel but not sure if I'd return.

Starting with positive points: really beautiful setting of this huge resort, very good spa, clean and spacious rooms, nice food... Unfortunately considering the prices and usual standard of Grand Hyatt hotels, I was a bit disappointed with the service which was usually slow and not as attentive as you could expect. However this was my first stay in Bali so cannot really compare to any other resort.
