Stayed at the Melia for three weeks, the hotel is in a gated compound shared by 6 or so other hotels of similair standard. As the Melia had a very good deal (two weeks for one) it was the only one anywhere near half full ( no australians returning yet). Resteraunt facilities and bar facilities were excellent although you do pay for it compared to outside the hotel but service and quality were superb. the grounds and and all buildings were immaculate and very atractive. Our room was a perfect size , nice balcony overlooking the gardens, very nice indeed.
However! be warned, all of the rooms are under airconditioned by normal standards and therefore damp, ask reception and they will either offer to upgrade you to a suite (also damp but bigger) and all suites are on the top floor or simply ask for a de humidifier for the room which they will supply and empty for you through the day. There are no "better" rooms I did look, the dampness is not a problem at all providing the balcony door is kept closed and the dehumidifier kept empty.
Altogether a very nice typicaly luxuriouse SE Asian resort hotel with good staff and facilities, a nice situation and a beautiful safe calm shallow beach/bay. Lovely walks and suroundings and a thriving resteraunt/shop trade outside the gates to the compound.
