“Can't wait to go back!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2011

My stay at the Melia Bali hotel was nicer than I could have imagined. Traveling to Bali, I was hoping to get the feeling I was someplace hidden from the world. The Melia Bali property is surrounded by palm trees, ponds, grass, music and lush landscaping, has a huge pool and is right on the ocean. The staff dress in the native Bali attire and tend to your every need but only approach you when you look like you need something. The food in the breakfast buffet is amazing and plentiful!! Has traditional Bali food as well as traditional 'American' food and everything in between. I highly recomment Melia Bali when staying in Bali!

If you are looking for relaxation, the Melia Hotel is Perfect to get some rest and peace. From there you can do trips to all the other places to see.

You can walk 5-10 min to a mall which has many different restaurants with life music and a big supermarket. The Mall and restaurants are quiet expensive and of course only made for tourists as well as the restaurants in the Hotel, especially alcohol!

But if you drive a bit further ( best by motorbike) you will find more
options!

All in all Nusa Dua is not the real Bali but a great option to stay in an excellent high Star Hotel to a reasonable price!

Definetly you have to drive around, do trips to see the real Bali, but it is always nice to know to come back to the hotel and find a nice, clean and quiet place!

My husband and I have recently returned from our honeymoon where we stayed at the Melia Bali. We were welcomed after a long journey with a cold drink and flannel, which was much appreciated. It was coming to the end of the rainy season and the hotel for our entire stay was reasonably quiet, which was great as there was never any problems finding a sun bed etc. We stayed in a garden delux room which was lovely, with a big balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens. The staff in the hotel can not do enough for you, everyone is so friendly and always happy to help with any queries etc. The restaurants in the hotel are of good quality, however they are expensive and it is better to go out if you can. There is the Bali Collection that is 5 minutes away from the hotel and the prices are more reasonable there and there is a large number of shops and restaurants to choose from. The only problem we had here is that it is very artificial and nothing like the 'real bali' and you really could be anywhere in the world there. It is also closed off to the locals for some reason and you have to pass security to enter the area which feels very strange.
We went to a restaurant called Bum Bu Bali, which served amazing balinese food, which is about 20 mins away and would strongly recommend it. Many of the restaurants will collect you and drop you back at the hotel free of charge and the hotel will call the restaurants to book a table for you., so it is worth talking to the staff at reception about good places to eat outside of Nusa Dua. It is also worth a visit to Jimbaran Bay for fresh seafood on the beach at sunset.
It is also great to get out and explore Bali and visit some of the amazing temples, plantations, volcanos etc as Bali is truly such a beautiful country. We upgraded for our last couple of days to a lagoon access suite, which was lovely. It is worth haggling with the staff at reception with prices, especially when the hotel is quiet as is was when we stayed as there are many rooms available. It also allowed us access to the garden villas pool, where you had free afternoon tea, and upgrade to the villa breakfast. It also allowed you free wi fi service, which is great if you have your lap top, which we surprsingly didn't! It is worth asking for the wi fi code though as we were then able to access it from our mobile phones. As it was so quiet, for two days we had the whole garden villa pool to ourselves and we were bought water, fruit and pastries throughout the day, it was heaven! The only downside about the lagoon access suites is the lack of privacy on the deck/balcony. They are small and there is no real partitions to separate you from your neighbours. We again were lucky as with it being quiet we were able to request a corner suite and we did not have any neighbours on the other side, however in high season this may have been a little disapointing.
We did use the spa on one occasion, however it is very overpriced and although it was lovely, it is recommended to look elsewhere purely due to prices.
The grounds, food, staff, pool etc was all fantastic and everywhere is very clean. The humidity is very high and from other reviews I have read I wouldn't book a standard room as I think these are the most outdated rooms, however all of the others have been redone and they are beautiful. It was an amzaing honeymoon and would definately reccommend the Melia Bali.

We arrived at Melia Bali driving through an impressive palm-lined road and escorted into an exotic relaxing reception area. As we were greeted by very friendly staff we could not help notice the fantastic surroundings, including a huge tropical garden. We were quickly escorted to a VIP reception area on the 4th Floor next to our suite on the ‘Level’. The staff were so efficient and helpful offering drinks and snacks as our luggage was taken directly to our room.
The level duplex suite was very impressive, extremely clean with fruit, flowers and free pop or water in the fridge. We were invited to an evening with the hotel managers including free champagne and snacks. It was a pleasant surprise and the managers were very helpful offering lots of useful information about Bali and useful sightseeing trips.
On our first evening we opted to have a meal in the hotel (long flights are tiring) The food was excellent and the service impeccable.
We booked bed and breakfast accommodation and the level of service continued to excel fruits, breads, eggs for your order, & usual dishes. Breakfast was served in the Serento for guests who had booked the Level package, the standard of food was excellent. Melia Bali offers numerous top quality restaurants and shops.
We were offered free drinks and snacks each night from 5.30pm to 8.00pm in the Level suite and the staff were constantly checking to see that you were cared for.
We often went to the private beach at night where you could drink a glass or two of wine and enjoy total paradise, the views were quite spectacular. We did walk along the beach and checked out the nearby hotels but for some reason did not live up to Melia Bali standards.
During the day we had a choice of two excellent swimming pools or relax on the private beach. We decided to relax in the quiet ‘Level’ pool and were offered free drinks and tea time snacks daily.
We have never experienced such a wonderful time and if we were asked to say what was so special about the experience we would say that it was the standard of service from wonderful staff. I do not believe we will ever experience such kindness, happiness and absolute luxury again unless of course we return to Melia Bali.

Down the impressive palm-lined driveway; welcomed by young traditional dancers; into an awesome foyer/reception area, and you realise you have arrived somewhere special. And you are right, the Melia Bali is somewhere special. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious, the breakfasts are delicious with an incredibly wide selection to choose from. The grounds are just magnificent and extensive with plenty of (shady) loungers around the pool and on the private beach. Last, but certainly not least, there is the staff - what lovely, happy and welcoming people - nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is within walking distance of a lovely shopping complex offering numerous shops and restaurants - perfect!! This is Bali at is best and my husband and I (plus four friends) are looking foward to our next visit.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, but we prefer Building 4.

My husband and I stayed at the melia for the first time in march for one week and just fell in love with it.Words cant explain how gorgeous the hotel is. From the first glance till the last goodbye. It must been seen to be believed.
We were greeted at reception with a smile from all the staff, they were friendly and very warm.. Melia hotel is the best located hotel in nusa dua as we have visited all others near by but did not quite have the same feel as melia.Lovely gardens, nice pool nice beach.great facilities, just cant stop raving about this place.
It was a pleasure meeting the resident Manager Alberto and Carmen who are just gorgeous that just made us feel very welcome. We would reccomend this hotel to anyone that wants a total relaxing holiday with style..SIMPLY THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our stay started when we checked in and were told that there is no welcome drink for us as it's late and we can go to the bar with voucher and get one there instead, which we did and were charged $50 for 4 cocktails and the bar said we had to pay as the voucher is only valid for juice. I complained to the manager who refused to honour the voucher!! This was absolutely ridiculous and based on this alone I would not come back.
The room was small, on the ground floor which they claim was superior standard. It was clean but lacked any sort of decor or nice furnishing, very simple and showed signs of age - i.e scratched desks, stained curtains, huge old style tv. Bathroom was OK, but shower was fixed to the wall and my friend hated that. The room had a connecting door which we were not told about on check in and there was a noise coming through from next door. My friend also suffered mosquito bites. We also saw mice on our balcony and asked to be moved higher up and were told that we would have to pay extra! The resort is old and it can be seen as they do not do their best to keep the outside areas clean and tidy. The pool was always full of leaves and I hardly saw anyone cleaning it. Having trees around the pool did not help. The spa, which I used just once was overpriced and the high prices unfortunately did not come with better massage. The restaurant for breakfast was actually good in my opinion which very large selection of food, such as american, chinese, japanese and continental breakfast with omelet and pancake station. The food was of good quality but it was busy.

In general the hotel caters to Western and Russian tourists and when you get bored of these you can go to next door shopping plaza to eat out as the restaurants in the hotel are way overpriced in comparison to Bali standards (i.e hotel charge me 25 times more than a shop for a small bottle of water). Overall, while prices reflect the 5 star standard, the srevice does not. It took forever for anything to be sorted and nobody was in charge. If you like incompetent people who smile at you when you have problem and never resolve than this is the way to go for you. We were also overcharged for internet. My friends had minibar charge which was removed as they never used it. The tenis and yoga prices were not cheap but worth it. The gym is small and outdated, do not bother and run on the becah instead, but only during low tide as the beach is only few meters wide and expect to spend days by pool in case you do like seaview.
