“A Bali Vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

Everything was great, considering that I had a very different kind of vacation as well as very low expectations.
I practically never dine in the hotel I stay, just prefer getting out and experience new things. This was a very unusual vacation for me. We got out of the hotel once in seven days we spent there, and that was a trip to traditional Bali places like a silver factory, a batik place, a wood carving shop, a couple of temples and that's it. I wish we did a day boat trip, but by the time we decided we wanted to have one, everything was booked. However, we rented one of the beach-front gazeboes for the whole week we were there, and that was a very good decision. One of the things that everybody needs to know is that everything is very slow in the Nusa Dua Laguna, and if this is what you want, you are gonna get. Another thing - despite the fact that everybody speaks English, you will still have communication issues when you want something extra, but as long as you go 'by the book' meaning 'what they have to offer', you are fine, and the choices aren't bad. You should also know that the place isn't cheap, which is fine by me, but some people may think that spending 16US on a mixed drink and 26US on a Champaign Bellini (plus tips) is way too much, those kind of people just shouldn't go there. Basically, the whole thing works exactly like in the US - you get what you pay for. Have fun.

Room Tip: Your choice should depend on what you want. I've got to have to TVs and wireless in my room. I w...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

After a very poor inital check in and first day experience, things settled down and we enjoyed an excellent nine days here.

Arriving around 8pm the check in was painfully slow and afer an hour we were told that our original room was not available but would definitely be ready by 12 lunchtime the following day. Not a good start but as an apology we were given one of the villas for the first night which can only be described as palatial and was more than worthy compensation.

If things had been followed through from this as promised, then there would be nothing to complain about. However, on being ready by 12 to move as agreed, we couldn't get hold of reception to arrange the move. On finally doing this after a number of phone calls, we were told that it would be ready by 2. This process was repeated at 3, 4 and we finally got into the room by 5 having spent half a day sat on our cases waiting to move thus completely spoiling our first day in Bali.

Two messages here for the Laguna. Firsly ensure that the reception is better staffed at peak times......we weren't the only ones sat about waiting, and if there is a problem, be realistic about the timescales to resolve and stick to them. We were made promises that couldn't be kept as we were told at the end of it all that the room had been occupied up until 4pm all along so could never have been available as promised. If you had been upfront with us we could have worked around it.

Taking this initial experience aside, I have to say that the overall impression of the Laguna was very positive.

We had a lagoon access room. Exactly as described and no problems. Some have said the hotel is a little tired in places but this wasn't evident in our room. Regularly cleaned, plenty of complimentary water and the usual evening turn down service.

The staff throughout were pleasant, helpful and always had a smile. Service was good throughout all of the restuarants and bars. We ate breakfast and lunch daily at the Arwana and used the Kul Kul bar in the evening. Quality was consistently good at all locations. And the ice cream at the Cornerstone was fantastic!

The gardens and pool are well kept, and whilst a little on the busy side for us with many families about, there are plenty of areas by the lagoons on the side of the hotel if you require some peace and quiet. The beach is fairly packed, but with 4 hotels side by side this is to be expected. In fairness, there was never too much difficulty in finding a sun bed.

We ate outside of the hotel for dinner. There are plenty of options available. Many go to the Bali Collection, but we preferred the local eateries just outside the main gates (at both ends of Nusa Dua) in Bualu village. We also got a cab a couple of times to Tanjung Benoa where Meads and Tao Bali are highly recommended.

Overall, the Laguna is a great hotel, set in a nice location and with great staff. We had a very enjoyable break and it was good value for money. The inital experience I have described makes my mark 4/5 rather than 5/5, but it's the little things that make the difference and set the truly exceptional hotels out from the rest.

Laguna resort was sheraton long time a go. I forgot that I've been here 10 years a go and that time I remembered one of our room ac was not working. This time we got lagoon access room. There was a personal butler that you can call anytime for coffee and tea or other. Sometimes they didnt pick the phone, but when they did, the sercive was quick.

Most of the staff were old, it's looked like they were there as long as the hotel. But they were very
Roffesional and nice. The lagoon pool we got not so big. The lagoon pool didnt connected to all area so it considered small and boring. But we still enjoy the pool. Not many teenagers here, mostly elderly or family with very young kids.

The room big enough, the bathroom eventhough it's not new but it's very clean. The bathtub, the toiletm the washbin was very clean and white so nothing wrong.

Breakfast was a little dissapointed after we stayed at other 2 much newer starwoods hotel. We actually wonder why they didn't up grade the breakfast and little detail in the hotel so we can still feel the starwoods property. A little detail like giving pool towel and towel hanger at the terrace for swimming after all it was a lagoon access room. Other starwoods hotel did that... Why not this hotel?

Laguna resort certainly not new, but it was quiet, and had it own charm... And clean. It's also very near to the shopping area. The hotel provide shuttle but you can just have easy walk 5-10 minutes to the shopping and restaurant area.

Room Tip: Lagoon access is a must

Dear Chinggu,

Warmest wishes from The Laguna Resort & Spa!

We really appreciate your positive feedback regarding our staff and room and we also appreciate your constructive comment since it allows us to look into the area where we have failed to meet your expectations.

Your concern regarding the breakfast has been shared with our Executive Chefs hence more variety can be added to the menu to live up with your satisfaction and in regards with the standing hanger, it is available upon request and we regret that this information was not well delivered to you.

Thank you and despite you disappointment, we do hope that we are still allowed to welcome you back in the near future.

Due to high workload and to several health issues in the last 3 months; I really need to have a break and to turn down...I decided to stay at the Laguna for 8 days in July this year based on a very positive experience I had at the Laguna hotel and in Bali in February 2013. That was the best location I could choose to spend holidays, to relax and recover.

I can strongly recommend for vocation, especially if you are looking for a place to turn down and at the sometime do not compromise with service and infrastructure. The highlights from my perspective were the rooms - specially the Villa and executives suites; the SPA (specially the co-workers), the overall strong attention and support from the reception desk (duty manager), the restaurants (good price/quality) and for sure the beach of the hotel…

I was solo during this stay but I could also recomend for family, couple and friends...

We were celebrating my husband's 50th birthday, I have no regrets choosing this hotel, we had a fabulous stay in one of the best hotels in this location. The staff were amazing very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. With the butler service we could have tea or coffee any time of the day. We had to check out at 6am our Butler brought us coffee 5am with two lovely warm Croissants.
We stayed in a Lagoon Access Studio Room, in a lovely location close to the beach, main pool and Restaurants, spacious room, nice and clean although the bathroom looked a bit tired.
The Buffet breakfast had a great choice , We had dinner twice in the hotel, menu did not impress did not enjoy the Seafood BBQ, thankfully we did not book half board.
Would definately stay there again.

I have been looking forward for my 40th to have a beautiful Holliday at Laguna ! Beautiful location , yammy breakfast everyday. Beautiful people we met over there. We could be very happy to say it was the best Holliday BUT when we did check out, the guy who took our bags down to the safe room , on his way stalled from my husband bag I phone and money. Unfortunately , we didn't have enough time to investigate it because our flight was in 2 hours.we left our complain with security manager and so disappointed left this beautiful place. After weeks and weeks of waiting from Laguna Managment and called them NOBODY reply to us back and give us any further result about our goods. We won't go back there because of non secure personal items and horrible service!!!!!

We stayed at the Laguna for 7 nights in May 2013 and would not hesitate to go back again, given the chance. We chose to stay at the Laguna as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and wanted to make it a special holiday.
The hotel is set in a beautiful quiet environment and is well maintained. The gardens are immaculate and quite scenic. There are several lagoons within the hotel which are a special feature of this hotel. On check in, we were promptly shown into our room by the duty manager who explained all the room facilities. We had booked a deluxe garden view room but as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, the Duty Manager Artana kindly offered to upgrade us to a lagoon access room. The room was large, spacious and was well equipped with all the facilities. Bathrobes, slippers, complimentary drinking water was all provided. The outstanding feature of this resort was the butler service. We could call the butler service at any time of the day or night for hot drinks and received exceptional service. Artana, the Duty Manager also arranged for a special anniversary chocolate cake which was welcomed as a pleasant surprise! He went at great length in personally ensuring that we had a truly enjoyable and memorable experience of our lifetime. He kindly explained the Bali customs and recommended the main attractions to see in Bali. We are glad that we followed his advice and chose to visit only the main attractions as we found that the journey times on the day trips were quite long and tiring due to general Bali traffic.
Breakfast is served at two restaurants at the hotel with a vast selection of hot buffet, fresh fruit and fruit juices. For most evenings we ate out and found plenty of restaurants to select from at Bali Collection - a shopping centre within the Nusa Dua area. Some of the restaurants provide a complimentary free return transport to the hotel which is quite convenient. The Spa at the hotel was a wonderful experience at a reasonable price. All the hotel staff were polite and helpful and went out of their way in ensuring that they provided an excellent service.
All in all we had a truly amazing time at the Laguna and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family.
