Wow, these guys have it down. From the excellent VIP arrival at the airport, through customs and out to a waiting car we felt like stars. The drive to the hotel was an eye opener, very crowded streets, chaos in traffic, hundreds of buzzing motor scooters, and through a couple of security checkpoints before we got to the hotel.
Once there up to the lobby which immediately set the mood. A couple of musicians creating harmonious native music, a refreshing drink, and a welcome more befitting arriving at someone's home than a hotel, warm, cordial and not at all business like. I read a previous review which said the lobby was disappointing. It's all a case of esthetic appreciation, and this lobby is, to my mind, in perfect harmony. Elegant within the culture we are visiting, perfect touched with flowers everywhere, exceptional pieces of art placed throughout, and very dramatic views everywhere you turn. I especially liked the grand staircase with its flower petals in vibrant colors.
Escorted to our room, an over the top room at that. Elegant furnishings with Balinese touches, simply perfection. A private outdoor area with lounge chairs, a dining table and more. The bathroom was a thing of beauty where we spent hours relaxing in the tub, large enough for two. The grounds are perfectly groomed, there are villas and cottages on the way to the beach where the sand is carefully groomed and every whim attended to with warmth and seemingly joy to be of service. We often find ourselves wishing western places could learn this art of joyful accommodation.
Breakfast buffet was an adventure, our first experience with an interesting fruit named snakeskin fruit. Delicious, sort of a water chestnut firmness with a pleasant sweet flavor.I ordered fresh mango juice and then a second glass. Awesome. I would have stayed there all day to drink it, very fresh, very alive, most yummy refreshing. All staff wanted to chat, to find out about us and to share their stories with us. Some people don't care for this but we love it and encourage the talk as we feel it gives us more education about the area, the culture, etc.
We were told that during high season the place is filled with very high maintenance Russians who are not very pleasant to staff. Fine with me, it helps erase the concept of ugly Americans. But they must be a real affront to these charming, gently generous people.
We are luxury travelers. The hotel fulfilled all our criteria and more, in fact it was over the top. This place spoke to our souls, and the staff, each and every one, were warm and generous of spirit. We will be back.
