“Peaceful Oasis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

We really loved this hotel, we had booked for a night and landed up spending 2 1/2 weeks there. In crazy Kuta this place really is a peaceful oasis that makes staying in Kuta bearable. They have lovely rooms, 2 beautiful pools, large buffet breakfast and really sweet friendly staff. The restaurant serves the best food and it really was great value for money.

Get an authentic Bali experience by staying in this hotel, without to spend a bomb. Great location and easy access to Kuta beach and shopping outlets. Nice pools and well maintained landscape.
Overall, recommended for family with budget on their mind. Don't expect luxury but the basics are well taking care of.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

With 10 of us in 5 deluxe rooms we were all put in one block which was great. Our first room was way below average, room 101 but were upgraded to a suite 216 on the second floor, big room, big balcony, big bathroom and big four poster bed, and by big, I mean big. I had to jumped up into the bed and the bathtub and sink were really high. Fabulous if you a taller person. Room was very clean and at the end on the second floor, very private balcony. Our sons were in room 217 with a small corridor between us, no common walls so noises from other rooms.

We really doubted this hotel on the first day as it is very old but it really grew on us. It was like bali 25 years ago, nice to experience authentic bali again instead of a westernised modern hotel. They still use keys and a key drop box in reception, and are very protective of their keys, so don't lose it. The pool towels are all numbered so make sure you take your towels back cause they know who has what and when..very thorough. They still use paper coupons for breakfast each day and breakfast was good. Not a huge variety but I love my salads and vegetables, so I was in breakfast heaven as there was plenty of vegetable choices. The boys did miss the bacon and sausages but made up for it with chicken sausages and beef bacon?? The linen in the suite room was pretty good and plentiful however, our friends that were in deluxe rooms were less than impressed with the colour and quality of sheets and towels. Deluxe rooms do not have hand towels or flannels and some of the towels were paper thin with wear.

If you are planning a trip in wet season, be careful about rooms 110 to 116 as we saw them nearly underwater after one heavy downpour. Our friends were in those rooms and it was like Venice!!!

Take advantage of the free shuttle service from the hotel at set times to South Kuta and Legian, beautiful van for about 10 people and spot on times.

The location of his hotel is the best. The hotel is down a long, rather quiet, driveway (quite well lit and felt safe at all times) from the beach and there are no hawkers outside the hotel entrance to pounce on you as soon as you step foot outside. You can walk everywhere as it basically on the border of kuta and legian. use the back gate (closes at 11pm) and explore all the little unknown streets for the cheapest restaurants, massage and shopping.

The Aussies seem to be the minority here as it is a favourite with Europeans, especially Germans so it is rather uncommon to hear lots of English voices around the pool, or see any children. We were there for the entire school holidays and I didn't see any young children. Maybe because the main pool is the deepest I have encountered and not suitable for youngsters. You have to be lucky to score a deck chair in the sun as the same Europeans have them staked out everyday from very early. The smaller pool with a swim up bar, is also quite deep with only a small amount of deck chairs but both pools very clean. Signs said pool closed at 8pm but they were open till 9 pm every night we were there, maybe because everyone using the pools were quiet and not disruptive to other quests.

There is a big difference between stairs in each block also. The garden blocks seem to have very steep and narrow steps but the stairs around the pool blocks where much more user friendly.

The gym is tucked away in a corner but surprisingly good with a big screen tv and music videos going.

The hotel was very quiet most of time and hardly saw anyone eating at the restaurant at night even though it was beautifully set up for dinner customers.

Be wary of the phone at the restaurant if you have a room around the main pool, it is very loud and rings at all hours, had to use earplugs to sleep.

The gardens are well looked after and the ponds with koi, huge catfish and turtles are lovely. The staff were very nice but not over the top nice or false, just pleasant.

We were upgraded free of charge because of a Holiday Villa Gold Card. You can apply for one free of charge on their main website and if you are successful, it gives discounts ,rewards and upgrades in their hotels worldwide, worth spending a couple of minutes to apply, glad we did.

Remember, this is a cheap, older style, three star hotel so you do get what you pay for. We usually stay in 4-5 star places but this was a step back in time and cost and although a shock in the beginning, with a few upgrades, this place could be worth a second look...even if just for the best location.

Room Tip: Rooms109-115 around main pool tend to flood very quickly during rain periods. If visiting during wet...

We loved the authentic look of the villas, lovely gardens, bar, pools and restaurant. Our rooms where clean and very comfortable as well as roomy. Staff where fabulous, friendly, helpful and interested in what we where up to. We liked this place because it was not new and not like every other place. It was great. I would highly recommend it to those who want a more authentic experience not a 'could be anywhere on the world' place. We did not feel that we had to tip everyone, but felt we wanted to.
Nearly forget to say, very quiet but really close to beach and markets, lots of eating and shopping close by.

Room Tip: Great value for money.

We just had 8 nights at Wina. Perfect spot. Clean rooms, great friendly staff. Beautiful pools. Back one nice and quiet. You can either walk out the front to the beach or stroll down to the mall etc or head out the back gate behind the beauty spa and your a few minutes away from poppies 2, legion st or just shop at the local places. Good eating places and bars out the back. We will defiantly come to crazy Kuta again and stay at the Wina.

Room Tip: We liked the ground floor rooms as the steps though not many are a wee bit step. But all rooms nice

I spent 10 days here, with a group of my friends. It was a great location, close to everything to walk too and the staff were helpful and friendly. Great food on the menus, and good choice of cocktails by the pool ;). The rooms were nice and air conditioned and they were nice enough to put me and my friends rooms next to each other.

Room Tip: Don't ask for a room near the pool as it does get noisy

We stayed here with a group of 8 over new years. Our rooms were all together, except for one, which was a disappointment as they were over the other side of the hotel. We booked and paid for "junior suites" but all our rooms were different, some being classed as suites while others looked like the basic room. The staff were friendly, and helped us with anything we needed. The breakfast was ok, but after eating rice and beef for breakfast after a few days we all got over it a found a restaurant close by that did a typical "aussie breakfast". The location is spot on, right back off the road so you don't have to deal with the crowds on the streets all the time, but there is a back entrance that leads out the back streets and really good shopping. The front entrance leads right to the beach and more "boutique" shops. Overall it was a good experiance, but if travelling to Bali again i would like to try somewhere else.

Room Tip: ask for a room on a higher level, while the pool side rooms are "nicer" during the wet sea...
